CHAPTER 44&45: MAKE HER REMEMBER.
★ ★ ★ ★
“Why don’t we meet your late husband?”
Theodora finished eating before they left to the council hall where Raymond sat with his royal councils.
“Sire, Holland wishes to see you.” The guard informed.
“Let her in.” He permitted.
Holland entered. ” Your Majesty. ” She bowed.
” Is there a problem?” He asked.
” No. But there’s someone who wants to see you.” She looks at the door. ” Come in. ”
His eyes were fixed at the door waiting for whosoever it was to show up.
As soon as he saw Theodora walk in, he stood up. Her face was buried to the ground as she slowly made her way in.
“Your majesty.” She greeted with a bow.
Raymond was happy, he thought she must have remembered everything.
“I am sorry to interrupt…”
He cuts in. “No, you didn’t. How may I help you? ” He asked.
” I learned of the death of my husband. If you can permit that I should see his body for the last time.” She requested, her head still facing the ground. “I have to pay him my last respect.”
” You are free to do that. ” He permitted.
Theodora was escorted by both Holland and the royal guard to Kaleb’s tomb.
“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” Holland asked, with concern.
She nods her head. “I didn’t get the chance to see him before he died, this is my only chance to look at his face.”
” Okay. I’ll wait out here.”
The guard opened the door to the tomb where Kaleb’s body was kept.
She took a deep sigh before making her way further to the tomb.
From the door she began to cry. “It was supposed to be us together but you let her into your head. I was supposed to die by your side but you were so stupid to think you were smart.
Now you are gone, she is not with you. It’s just you alone stucked in hell.” She wiped her tears. ” I should feel hurt for your loss but no, I can’t. I have always wished for a day like this to come. You deserve this more than anyone else. Now someone else is on the throne no one has to be scare of you.”
When she opened the cloth which was used to cover him, she saw that his head was separated from his body.
She covered it back. “Rest in peace, My Lord.” She left the tomb.
Holland was surprised. She had only spent less than fifteen minutes in there and her face didn’t look like she had lost someone so dear to her.
“Let’s go.” She said.
Holland exchanged glance with the royal guard. She shrugged her shoulders.
“There’s no point calling me your queen, I am a normal person just like you are. Very soon, I will be leaving here for good.”
” Why?”
” Because this is no longer my home. My home is with the rogues. Kaleb is dead, everything about me and this place is gone. My life… it’s all meaningless. You know, it would have been better to be dead.”
” Dora don’t you ever say that.”
” I have to. Look around, Holland, what’s left to live for? What’s there to hope for? Sophie has taken every thing away from me, and now there is a new king on that throne…” She scoffed.
” Do you know what it feels like to have lived a wretched life, then all of a sudden you became so great? And then, things turn out unexpectedly and you’re back to what you were before. If possible twice what you were before?
I don’t wanna imagine that happening, but here I am facing it as a reality… My reality. I don’t wanna feel the shame because I have felt more than enough of it. I don’t want you or anyone to stop me, I have to go. I have to leave this place for good.”
” Dora, you don’t have to do this.” She pleaded.
” I’m sorry but, I really do.”
Raymond sent for Holland. He knew he would get all the answers he needed about Theodora from her since she was the closest thing to her.
“Does she remember everything now? ” He asked.
” Yes, but there’s one left for her to remember. Poor thing, it’s the most important part of her memory. ”
” What’s that? ” He asked again.
” You. She doesn’t remember who you are. Though, she’s been trying hard to remember,” shook her head. “she can’t seem to recollect. But since she was able to remember every other thing, I am certain she will remember who you are. I think this is the time you have to reconnect with her mind.
Remind her of all those last times you’ve talked with her, all those times she do read about your history, I’m pretty sure those will help her remember you. But, you mustn’t let her know it’s you in her head until she remembers it all.”
He looked away. ” That won’t work out.”
” Your Majesty, there’s no harm in trying. Give it a try and see if it works or not. We can’t just conclude it won’t. I’m sorry to say this but, what if this is all fate’s doing? What if all these happening is a way for the both of you to reconcile and work together. It can be possible, you know?”
” You think, reconnecting with her will her will help?”
She nodded. ” I believe it certainly will. Your Majesty, you have to hurry up, she will be leaving the fortress very soon.”
Raymond’s eyes flew open. ” Leaving? To where?”
” She said she wants to return back to the rogue camp. I tried stopping her but she refused to listen to me.”
