……Derrick really felt broken after Bella left,he obviously loved her,but Bella was just too insecure to see and appreciate his love….. Weeks had gone by and Derrick had returned to his usual self, I was glad he had moved on, I was in my second and final year in my catering school, I had learnt more than enough, Miss Teri really treated me specially, she was a good friend of Derrick indeed,she promised him I was going to learn the very best,and she kept to her word,,, I went with her to other States when she has contract outside Lagos, I am with her every minute, its been 1year and five months and I was already doing marvellously well in meals and baking,,,, I couldn’t have asked for more, at last the light of good life was shining around me,,,my routine was from the school to the house,expect on Sundays when we went to church,,, I had no close friends around, I only have acquaintances in school..I deliberately do not like going out to avoid SHE’S THE ONE….
One Friday evening I was home with mom and the maids,we were watching a TV program, when Derrick who had gone clubbing called me,,,,Hello Charity, where are you,, he asked, Come on Derrick it’s past 11pm,where else if not home, I am home, I replied, are you sure,,,he asked, what’s happening there and what in God’s name do you mean by if I am sure….
I……, just want to be sure, please give mom the phone if you are home,,,, I gave home the phone, and I was wondering why Derrick sounded that way,,,,,I could hear mom say,yessss,yessss,,we are all home together in the sitting room watching a TV program,,,, yes,,,,yess,,okay, be home Mr Man, it’s late,,,she hung up….
Mom what’s wrong with Derrick, why all those jamb questions,,,my dear you know Derrick and how crazy he can be,forget him,,,,,.
After the program, we all went to bed..
The next morning which was a Saturday, I saw Derrick seating at the sitting room, wearing a troubled look,,, Derrick do not usually wake up early on Saturdays, but this Saturday seems to be different… Derrick good morning,I greeted, good morning charity, how was your night, he asked,as I was about answering, I saw mom walked in,good morning mom,I greeted genuflecting,,, morning beloved she replied,,, good morning mom, Derrick greeted ,haba,oga good morning ohhh,you are up this early,on a Saturday morning, ahhhh,kilo happen Baami,mom teased him,,,
Charity sit,mom, Charity, I think I can now trace where Charity’s mistaken identity comes from, what do you mean, and what are you talking about,mom asked,,, yesterday at the club,I saw someone who is just an exact replica of Charity, though she looked a little rugged from her dressing, but the resemblance was striking, I honestly thought that was Charity, until I placed a call to her, and she said she was home, i was still in doubt, that was why I asked her to give you the phone mom,for confirmation,,,, no body that will not hold Charity responsible, should that girl commit any crime and Charity walks in….Wait,wait,I am trying to make sense of what you are saying, are you telling me ,you saw some one who looked like me,you mean exact me,who you suspect could have been the culprit committing those crimes I am been accused off,,,,yes Charity… Derrick replied, mom was too shock to say anything… I thought things like this happens only in movies, she managed to say,,,mom I was as shocked as this yesterday..
Derrick, you have to take me to that club, I really have to see things for myself,,,, please Derrick,,, but are you sure,she will be there now, Derrick asked, calm down charity, after service towards evening, that’s when clubs get busy,then we shall go there… I agreed,,
We went to church, but I was absent minded,I just wanted to see this misery girl that had caused me so much pain,,,different thought flashed my mind,who is she ,where is she from, how can we look so much alike that people mistake me for her,,Derrick understood my thought and whispered in my ears,you know thinking and worrying wouldn’t give you the answers you seek right,,calm down dear,,,,we shall soon unveil this misery….I feign a smile…
Of all the Sunday’s, the pastor chose that day to have a long message, I was so distracted that I didn’t even understand what the pastor was saying, I just saw his lips moving, and I couldn’t wait for the service to be over, so we could go home, at Long last, service was over and we were home,, we ate and changed into something causal then Derrick and I drove to the club house,,, upon arrival, persons started smiling at me,I knew they mistook me for the misery girl,,,,so I politely returned their smiles,
The Starr on me was making me uncomfortable,,, so Derrick and I looked for a place to sit,waiting and hoping the misery girl shows up….it’s been four hours and no signs of her,,,we were getting tired,,,,all of a sudden a girl walked to us,,, she called me out, I excused myself from Derrick, I knew the girl was mistaken me for the misery girl, but I wanted to take the risk, PINKY waiting dey happen,na the full night that man book for,see as you just sit down with arm, you no know say time na money, wait ohhh,which kin junsing cloth you wear sef,you dey go church, na wa for you ohhhhh,,,I knew I needed to sake for this girls help, so I seized the opportunity,,
I am not Pinky,I am her sister, I actually came to pay her a surprise visit,,, I told her, waiting you dey yarn, who you dey speak English for, you high,,,,she replied,,,,, see I no be Pinky,I be her sister, I just come from Abuja and I lost the address wey she been give me, I just wan surprise her,,,,wait ohhh,like this na you no be Pinky,,,no,,, I said,she looked at me closely,,, I believe you small, bcos pinky come here yesterday ,na wevon she fix,and na breed dey your Head, for the look of things no be new hair,,, you say pinky give you address you loss arm,Pinky get address,she no get address ohhhh….she said,,,okay na how I go take see her, when she go come here,I asked, Pinky na breeze na,she dey every where,today na here ,tomorrow na there, me sef no know where she dey stay,na here we dey meet….. Just dey come here dey check for her, one day she fit craze come again,,, thank you my sister,abeg no tell her say you see me ohh,like I tok before, na surprise visit I come, I said to her,,,,,that your bobo,soft ohhh,the guy dey well,you fit borrow me for like two hours,I wore a frown now,abeg na play I dey ohhh,someone can not play with you,is that how you use to do,she said and went inside..
I went in and told Derrick all the girl had said, after waiting for some more hours, we left and went home disappointed…
