Paulina stoped crying, and she placed her head on Sage’s shoulder staring at the cloud.
“Are we going to remain this way till school dismiss?” Sage asked, and she chuckled.
“If it’s fine by you.”
“You won’t tell me about your relationship with Mike?” He muttered, and she looked at him.
“Sage, you won’t believe me no matter how I convince relationship with him, right?”
“I’ll only believe the truth.”
“But it’s the truth.”
“Even now, you aren’t sounding sure to me.” He said, and she let out a sigh.
“Can we talk about this later? I’ve to go to class now.”
“If the conversation is making you uncomfortable, then it only means there is no to it. Lina, you know I’ll always support you as long as you are making the right decision, right?”
I know, and that’s why I’m scared. I don’t know if I’m made the right decision or not, and I don’t want us to have any issue either.” She said, and he chuckled.
“Why make a decision you aren’t sure of?”
“Sage, I don’t know how to make you understand this, but I’m a very complicated person. I’ve been that way since I enrolled in holland high, there are a lot of secrets I can’t share even if we are friends, and there is a lot of things I would love to sort out on my own without getting anyone involved, you a good person, Sage. You are the best person I’ve met so far that why I don’t want you to get hurt because of me, I don’t want to hurt your feelings either because I know that they are genuine.” She muttered, fighting back tears and he embraced her.
“It’s fine, Lina. I’m also aware, I knew that you weren’t completely honest with me, and I’m willing to wait till you feel comfortable to share everything without being a burden.” He said, patting her back gently.
“Thank you so much, Sage. I must have saved a nation in my past life to be blessed with a good friend like you.” She said, and he chuckled.
“You sure did.” He said, and they both laughed.
*
He went to the cafeteria later to get them snacks, and they sat on the rooftop chattering away till school dismissed.
They both went to parking lot together later, on their ro his car, a man intentionally bumped into her.
“Oh, I’m sorry, sir. Are you ok?” She asked, worriedly, and the man looked up at her —he looked so unkept with unshaved breeds.
“Lina, let’s go.” Sage said, and dragged her away. “You shouldn’t talk to strangers like that.” He scolded.
“I bumped into him, and he doesn’t look scary at all.”
“You say? He looks like a homeless man, I wonder how he entered the school premises. They need to tighten the security.”
“Come on, don’t be that harsh. He looks pitiful to me, he must be related to a student here.”
“The school probably got another scholarship student, because I can’t even imagine.” He muttered, and she glared at him.
“That’s enough, Sage. I’m on scholarship too.” She blurted.
“I’m sorry, ok. But the man really need to wash up.”
“There you go again after saying sorry.” She muttered, and he laughed before driving off.
*
He drove her to the nearest bus station as she requested before he drove off.
She wanted to stop a taxi when she saw Steven at the bus station.
“What’s be doing here?” She thought, and went to him. “Hey, Steven.” She said, wondering if they were close enough to exchange greetings in public.
“You still owe me.” He muttered, and she looked at him.
“Oh, yeah… your pendant, I forgot to bring it again.”
“Your bus card.” He said, and stretched his hands to her.
“What bus card?”
“Card, to board the bus.”
“You eBay to take the bus? Aren’t you supposed to be an elite? Do elites take public bus?” She asked, seemingly shocked.
“I’ve search through my bag, but I think I left my wallet at school. So help me with your card, or get lost.” He blurted, and she scoffed.
“Being so rude when you need help is totally old-fashioned. And meanwhile, I don’t have a bus card either. I take taxis, with my card.”
“Good! We can get a bus card with that.” He said, and went to the station office to get the card.
They got two cards, and they both boarded the next bus together. There was only a seat left, and Steven hurried to sit there.
“So immature.” She muttered, and scoffed, standing next to him.
The bus arrived at his station, and he stood up to get off the bus when his bag fell off his hand and she scoffed as he picked it up and hurried out of the bus, but something fell off from it.
“You dropped something.” She shouted, and picked it up, surprised to see it’s a coupon from a noodles restaurant. “What? He keeps coupon as well?” She thought, and kept it in her bag.
She alighted at the next bus station, and board a taxi to the noddles restaurant.
*
She got to the restaurant that’s in rural area, she looked around wondering how Steven found the restaurant in a remote area.
“Their noodles must be good.” She thought.
She went in, and was surprised to see Steven who was obviously startled after seeing her.
“Hey, who knew we could meet here.? What a small world.”
“Steven, we got an order what are you waiting for?” A man shouted from behind, and Paulina eyes widened, wondering what was going on.
“Oh, we have a customer. Welcome, miss. I’ll attend to the customer, just go deliver the orders.” The man said, and patted Steven shoulder.
Steven left, and Paulina was directed to a table still in shock.
“Miss, our today’s special is spicy noodles, but you can check the menu to place your order.” The waiter said.
“Is he a delivery guy?” She asked, because she couldn’t take her mind off it.
“Delivery… oh, you mean, Steven? Yes, he has been working here for quite a while now. He doesn’t take order, he only deliver.”
“Oh… I see. I’ll go for the special.” She muttered in disbelief.

Sage was trying to work on his assignments in his study, but he couldn’t concentrate, so he went to the dinning hall to do it there.
He was still finding it difficult to concentrate when his mother joined him.
“Are you troubled?” She asked, and he chuckled before looking at her, she has a way of finding out anything going on in his life, even if he didn’t share.
“Mum, you are coming home early these days.” He muttered, trying to avoid her question.
“Why? Does it bother you that your nosy mother is now coming home early?” She asked, rubbing his hair.
“Kind of.” He muttered, and they both chuckled.
“Are you finding it difficult to concentrate?” She asked, taking the seat next to him.
“How can you tell?”
“Because it’s your habit. You only come out to work on your assignments whenever you are finding it difficult to concentrate. You want to be distracted from your thoughts.”
“You know me too well, mum.”
“Of course, because you are my son.” She said, patting his back.
“Does it only work if we are blood related?” He muttered, and his mother looked at him.
“Are you trying to understand a girl?” She asked, and his eyes widened in shock.
“Mum, how did you know?”
“I’m your mother, and also a judge. I could tell straight ahead that you are thinking about a girl. Is it, Lina?”
“Mum, I can’t just understand her.”
“Oh… dear. It feels like yesterday when you were just born, but look at you now troubled about a girl. Oh… my son has really grown.” She teased, playing with his cheeks and he smiled.
“Mum, you and dad also fell in love in high school.”
“Mum, who fell first, you or dad?” He asked, and his mother almost shook on her saliva.
“That’s so random.” She muttered, and he chuckled.
“I’m just curious, mum.” He said, batting his lashes cutely.
“Well… if you act this cutely what can I do? You look so adorable.” She said, and he smiled. “I believed your dad fell first but as you know, he is shy, so I confessed to him first. When I confessed, he brought out a couple ring and proposed to me at that moment.” She said, smiling broadly like she could remember the moment.
Sage chuckled and slipped from his glass of water wishing his case would be as easy as his parents.
“Why was dad shy?” He asked, and his mother smiled.
“I believe he was scared of father. Everyone at school was scared of me because of my father. He is quite intimidating, you know.” She said, and he nodded.
“I would have imagined.” He muttered.
“Sage, your father and I might have been couples since highschool, but we had our own struggles as well. Our relationship had a lot of up and downs, we broke up severally, and there was a point when I thought we could never be together again, and here we are. But that might not be the same with you, son.” She said, and he looked at her.
“I like Lina.” He managed to say.
“I know. I believe even your father and your sister know that too.”
“But she is very discreet about everything. I want to understand her, but I can’t. I feel it’s unfair for her to keep things from me, she should feel free to share her burdens so we can find a solution together.” He said, and his mother chuckled.
“Did you tell her?”
“What?”
“About your feelings.”
“I did, but the timing wasn’t right, so I couldn’t get a response, but I bet that she would reject me, not because she doesn’t feel the same, I believe its not protect me from whatever she is hiding.”
“Don’t push too hard, Sage. Don’t try to find out anything if she doesn’t feel comfortable to share it. Just stay by her side as a friend. Who knows, she might not be the girl.” She said, and he looked at her.
“I think it can only be Lina, mum.”
“Oh, my. You got a lot of courage, I wish your father was like you when he was your age.” She teased, and he managed to chuckle.
“Mum, are you making fun of my feelings?” He whined.
“Of course not, son. But don’t make her feel uncomfortable. I had a friend in highschool, he was very protective of me, and he loves inferring to everything I do. He felt obligated to know everything about me which made me uncomfortable. I avoided him even as a friend, because he was just not my type of friend. You should understand when your friend is trying to do something’s alone, friends don’t always have to rely on each other.”
“You think I might be making her uncomfortable?”
“If you keep interfering, then you can end up losing your friendship.”
“I’ll keep that I mind and he more careful, mum.” He muttered, and she patted his back.
“Oh, my son is all grown up.”
“Mum, you are back. I did better in my English test.” Clara shouted, approaching them.
“Is that so? Let me see.” Her mother said, but Sage was quick to collect the report.
“What? 7 out of 20!” Sage shouted.
“You scored 7?” Her mother repeated.
“Yes, I meant that I did better than last time.” She grumbled.
“Oh, that’s my baby. This prove that you would gradually improve.” Her mother said patting her hair, and she grinned broadly.
Sage shook his head, and let out a sigh before taking his leave.

CHAIRMAN RUSS’S MANSION^^^
^
Micheal was trying to work in his study, but he couldn’t seem to concentrate. He has been thinking of the best way to get rid of Ava, but nothing came to his head. If it were other students at school, it would’ve been easy to get rid of them, but Ava is a Stanford, not just from an influential conglomerate family, she was also from a powerful political family. His father has high respect for the Packard’s, and he has also been trying to be business partners with the Stanford’s so getting rid of Ava would mean crossing a lot of line.
He made that agreement with Paulina because she was pitiful, and he wanted to protect her from Ava, but no it seems like he really needs to get rid of Ava for real.
He was still trying to figure out a plan when his secretary called his attention to the main dinning hall.
He let out a sigh before going to freshen up, wondering what his parents wanted to discuss again.
*
He got to the dining hall, and took his seat while his parents engaged on a conversation.
“You mean chairman Stanford asked for a favor for an extra invite to the next big dinner?” Mrs. Russ said in surprise.
“Yes, he said he wanted to gift it to a regular student’s parent.” Mr. Russ replied.
“Surprising! Who could have thought chairman Stanford could make such request.” Mrs. Russ said.
“This is actually the first time he would call me, so it was like an honor. This could be our chance to win his favour.” Mr. Russ replied.
“Say that again, sweetheart. Micheal, I thought you were close to their daughter.” Mrs. Russ said.
“No!” He muttered.
“No?” Mrs. Russ repeated.
“We used to be close before she went to England.” He muttered.
“Wow. You even know the details. Chairman Stanford is a strict businessman, but I heard he has a soft spot for his family, most especially his daughter. He even joined in his wife campaign last week despite his busy schedule. What a happy family.” Mr. Russ said, and Micheal exhaled heavily.
“Mike, isn’t she one of the students that was reported to the disciplinary board?” Russ asked.
“That’s old news. Mike, you should be closer to her. Put all misunderstandings behind, and ensure you win her favour before the next parent-student dinner. We should play all our cards, and win the Stanford’s over.”
“I heard that he doesn’t discuss business outside the company’s wall.” Mrs. Russ said.
“Yeah… he has so many policies.” Mr. Russ muttered, and Micheal let out a sigh.
“Why do you keep sighing like a sick dog?” Mrs. Russ blurted.
“Seems like you really don’t get along with the Stanford’s daughter.” Mr. Russ teased.
“Micheal, I heard about your new girlfriend.” Mrs. Russ said, and he looked at her.
“Is anything wrong with the girl?” Mr. Russ asked.
“Nothing you might be interested in, expect from the part that never get along with our dear Stanford daughter.” Mrs. Russ said, and Micheal made a fist.
“Breakup with her.” Mr. Russ blurted, and Micheal looked at him. “You shouldn’t be with any complicated person, I ding care about who you date, but if whoever will affect our anticipated relationship with the Stanford, then you should know better. You are a businessman, you shouldn’t take such risk.”
“The news is false, we aren’t together.”
“So there is really a girl.” Mrs. Russ muttered, with an evil smirk.
“Then stop being friends with her, avoid any connection between the both of you.“
“Ok, dad.” Micheal muttered, playing with his food.
“Did we get a new chef?” Mr. Russ asked later, and his wife smirked.
“Why? Does she remind you of our old chef?” She asked back, and Mr. Russ stopped eating to look at her. “Enjoy your meal, sweetheart. Good food shouldn’t waste.” She muttered, and continued eating.
