Episode 8

Adam got up to Brian’s room and walked towards his bed. He saw him sleeping soundly.

He bent over, staring at the little boy’s face. The baby looked so much like him and that was the only reason he accepted him from Lucio.

“Sir Adam.” Wendy called from behind.

Adam turned to look at her and back at his son. “How is he doing?”

“He’s perfectly fine. You don’t have to worry about what your mother said. She only wanted to get you guys over.” Wendy assured.

“Take good care of him. I will be going back home now.” Adam said and started walking out of the room.

“Huh….sir Adam?” Wendy stopped him.

Adam turned in front of the door. “Anything else?”

Wendy sighed. “I really do hope you will take little Brian with you someday. He needs his father’s love.”

Adam stared at her and breathed in. “I know but it’s none of your business. Just do what you are being paid for. I’ve got to go.” He opened the door and walked out of the room.

Wendy sighed and shook her head as she looked towards the sleeping boy. “Poor thing.” She mumbled.

“Surprise!!” Dianne and Paula screamed excitedly as they bursted into Jocelyn’s hospital room with a large pink teddy bear.

Jocelyn who was on her bed, watching her favorite TV show gasped and was moved to tears when she saw nthe teddy.

“Oh my God!” Jocelyn gasped softly, her hands over her mouth.

Her friends moved closer to her, hugging her with the teddy. “You look great this morning. Here’s your gift girly.” Paula said with a smile as they placed the large teddy bear beside her on the bed.

“Thank you guys so much. You are the best!” Jocelyn said, touching those hands.

“You are welcome.” Her friends replied with a smile.

They sat down on the couch beside.

“How are you feeling now? Does your stomach still hurts?” Dianne asked.

“Yeah. Eddie has asked me to stay till weekend so he would be able to observe me more.” Jocelyn said and her friends looked at each other with a knowing look before glancing back at her.

“Hmm. Why did you call him by his name? Isn’t he the doctor that did your surgery?” Paula asked.

Jocelyn shrugged. “Y….yes he is. He likes being addressed by his name.” She replied.

“Uh oh…… what’s that stuttering all about? Oh my God…. Jocelyn, you like him!” Dianne gasped and Paula began to clap.

Jocelyn Chuckled. “Stop it, girls. Who wouldn’t like a guy like him? He saved my life, remember? So….I just like him for that. Nothing more.”

“So….tell me, is he married? Or single? Does he have a girlfriend already?” Paula asked and Jocelyn rolled her eyes.

“How would I know? Come on girls, there’s nothing between us. That guy’s d@mn too cute and too much for me.”

Her friends laughed.

“Have you looked at yourself in the mirror? Girl, you look like an angel. You are too pretty and need a guy like him.” Paula chipped in.

Jocelyn sighed. “I know right? But Adam will never let me be. That guy is always here to make trouble.”

“Hasn’t he done enough harm? What does he still wants?” Dianne asked.

“I wish I know.” Jocelyn mumbled. She carried her teddy and hugged it tightly before smiling at her friends. “Thank you so much for this. You’ve made my day!”

Dianne and Paula smiled back, grateful that their spoilt brat of a friend liked the gift.

Eddie got home and met the house empty. His nephew had gone out again, partying of course.

Eddie shook his head and walked up to his room, feeling a little bit exhausted.

He got into his, changed out of his clothes and tied a robe around his waist

He sat down on his bed, picked up his phone and dialled Jocelyn’s line which he collected in the day at the hospital.

Jocelyn picked up immediately as though she’s been waiting for the call. “Hey.”

From the sound of her voice, he knew she was smiling right now and he smiled back.

“I wish I’m there right now to see that beautiful and breathtaking smile of yours.” Eddie mumbled softly, smiling.

“So….Mr romantic, how did you know I’m smiling right now?” Jocelyn asked from the other line.

“I know the expression on your face through your voice my angel.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. So…..have you taken your night medication? I hope the nurses on duty are doing their job.” Eddie asked.

“Yes they are. You don’t have to worry.” Jocelyn replied.

“Okay angel. I wanna tell you someone but that will be tommorow, when we are together.”

“Can’t you give me a clue? You will leave me in suspense.” Jocelyn mumbled.

Eddie laughed. “No. No clue for you. Let’s make it tomorrow, hmm?”

“Alright.” Jocelyn said and yawned.

“You wanna sleep? Okay….I will leave you to rest now. I will see you in the morning. Sleep tight.” Eddie cut the call and distanced the phone from his ear before smiling at the screen.

He couldn’t believe it. He was finally in love with someone.

His parents would he super excited to hear this. Super excited!

He whistled to himself as he walked towards the bathroom to take his bath.

***A week later***

Angeline held Jocelyn’s hand as she led her to her room. They were just returning from the hospital and Angeline couldn’t contain her joy. She was extremely excited to see her daughter back home; alive and healthy.

Jocelyn got to her and smiled happily looking around her well decorated room.

She turned to look at her mom. “Mommy…..you were the one that did all this?”

“Yeah….well, with the help of the maids.” Angeline replied with a smile.

“I’m so touched mom. So touched. Thank you.” Jocelyn said happily.

She put down her teddy – the one she got from her friends – on the bed.

“And your father is coming back today.” Angeline announced and Jocelyn nodded. She was not too excited about it.

“And I will welcome him when he gets back.” She replied with an eye roll. She sat down on her bed, cuddling her newest teddy.

Her mom sighed and touched her hair. “You don’t seem to be happy about it. You have not seen you dad in three months. You should be happy to hear he is coming back today.”

“He didn’t even call me all the whole time I was in the hospital. All dad cares about is money. Nothing else.” Jocelyn accused.

“Oh come on, stop that. Your dad called almost everyday but I couldn’t just let him know what happened to you. He has always warned me to allow you to make your choice so I know he’s gonna blame me if he should know what happened in his absence. You know your daddy loves you my angel. You are out only source of joy.”

Jocelyn looked at her mom and smiled. “And you guys are my only source of happiness.”

Angeline chuckled and both mother and daughter hugged each other.

Jocelyn’s cellphone began to ring, interupting their moment.

“You have a call.” Angeline said, trying to peep at the screen.

“Mom!” Jocelyn laughed, hiding her phone from her mom before she would see her caller.

“I know it’s the doctor. What’s going on?” Angeline asked, wrapping her arms around her chest.

Jocelyn only smiled and went ahead to receive her call. “Hi Eddie.”

“Angel….. are you now home?” Eddie asked from the other line.

Jocelyn rolled her eyes. “Yeah but I’m still mad at you.”

Eddie sighed. “I know okay? I should have dropped you off at home with my car but I was called for an emergency. Don’t worry. I will make it up to you.”

Jocelyn smiled. “Okay then.”

“Stay safe and take your medication, okay?” Eddie asked.

“Yes I will.” Jocelyn replied with a smile.
