CHAPTER SIXTY

RICARDO’S POV

“Car__men.” I stuttered as I held my hurting cheeks, my eyes burning into her angry eyes. My cheeks hurt like hell, how she just barged into the office unannounced and headed straight to me, tore the papers I’m about to sign and then slap me is what I’m still trying to process.

Didn’t she get the paper I sent to her? It was a letter for her to stay still for a while. That I have everything under control.

But on the other hand, I felt so pained because I’m the cause of all her worry and anger, and Carmen being the girl she is, she won’t sit back and just watch.

But I wanted her to just stay still for a while before coming back, I know, I expected her to come back from Paris but I didn’t expect her to catch on to everything and show off why she’s called Carmen.

“Carmen, what??!” I was unable to find the right words, especially with her angry eyes still burning into mine.

“Don’t you ‘Carmen, what’ me!” she yelled, her face red with anger. “What do you think you’re doing? What papers do you think you’re signing?”

“Carmen, we need to talk.” I said and grabbed her by her hand and began to drag her away, along with me.

We stopped halfway when we came out of the conference room, almost at my office door when she pulled her hand away.

“No!” she shouted, her voice filled with anger and frustration. “I don’t want to talk to you! I don’t want to hear any more of your excuses or explanations! You’ve caused enough damage already!”

“Carmen can you listen?” I asked and my eyes fell to her feet which seemed to be hurting, I could see traces of blood between her toes.

My breathe cut in so many ways immediately. “Carmen, what happened to your feet?”

“Is that what’s important right now?”

“Of course it is!!”

“If you’re really concerned about me, then you shouldn’t have left me all alone in Paris, flew back here without texting or calling!! And you even had the guts not to return my calls!”

“Carmen I was__”

“Would you mind keeping your reasons to yourself, because I don’t want to hear them right now.” She pulled closer, I felt like I was breaking apart, and I just wanted to curl up in a ball and disappear. I’ve never seen Carmen this angry since I met her. I clenched my fist.

“I never expected you to give up this company after everything we’ve been through, not after I was poisoned!!”

“You don’t understand anything Carmen.”

“You should’ve made me understand before taking this decision.” She said bitterly, “You’re signing off the company to Bernadette who played tricks with me!! You nuts?!”

“Carmen can you calm down and start reasoning with me?”

“I didn’t come here to reason with you Cardo. When I wanted to reason with you, you never gave me the chance ,you shut me out Cardo!!”

“Do you even know that my father is dead and I’m going through a lot.”

She crossed her arms on her chest. I thought this piece of news will make her stop reacting so harshly towards me but I think Carmen have become something else. Something I’ve never seen before.

“So?? Did I kill your father? What if he’s dead? Did you try to find out what’s the cause of it? Did you try to find out who killed him? And the first thing you wanna do is to sign off the company?!”

“Carmen!!”

“What?! Just how many secrets are you keeping away from me Cardo?” She was sobering up, like she was trying to keep it together and thereby, she was breaking out because of it.

“You didn’t even bother to tell me about your charity Sh|t back there in Paris. You didn’t even tell me about Victoria, the girl in our house.”

Oh Sh|t! I was gonna tell her about it, at a good time.

“I’m sorry,” I said, my voice breaking. “I didn’t mean to keep things away from you.”

“You’re sorry? You’re always sorry Cardo.” She said, turned and walked away, and I stood there, unable to move or speak. I had never seen her so angry, and I didn’t know what to do.

“Go after her,” I beckoned to one of my guards, “make sure she gets a treatment for her__, no wait, I will go after her myself.” I said and ran off.

“Carmen, wait up!!”

I followed her as she hurried down the hall, her long black hair flying behind her. I called out her name, but she didn’t slow down, and I could see that she was crying. I kept chasing after her, until we reached the front door of the building. She pushed it open and exit the door.

“Carmen, please stop!” I yelled, but she kept walking faster, I caught up with her before she got into the car.

Where will I start explaining everything to her? How I was on my way home and was at the door, fresh flowers in my hands before I got the call about my father and I had to leave in a hurry.

Or should I apologize for being so mad at myself for everything that happened? My father giving up the ghost right infront of me and I couldn’t do anything about it.

In as much as I’m a man, I’m twenty five years old, almost everyone’s baby, everyone’s punching bag, does she think I love to give up the company, I have to do it since I promised to, that’s my father’s last wish.

Still grabbing onto her arm, I turned her to face me. “Carmen I’m sorry.” She tried to wriggle my hand away from hers.

“Can you leave me alone? I have somewhere to be right now.”

“Carmen, can you please listen to me?” She eyed me, her anger not simmering down at all. “Please, just listen to me,” I said, my voice pleading. “I know I’ve been terrible to you, and I’m so sorry. I know I can’t take it back, but I want to make it up to you. Please, just give me a chance.”

She looked at me, her puppy eyes filled with pain and sadness. “Just let me be,” she said, her voice breaking.

“At least, let me attend to your wounds, you’re badly hurt. How did you have to leave yourself get hurt like this without attending to it?”

“Now you are acting like you ever cared about me.” Her voice rang out again and I palmed her face.

“Yeah, I care. I always care. I wanted to go crazy each time I remember that I left you all alone in Paris while I’m back here dealing with all the Sh|t alone.”

“You never treat me as your wife, not even for a day.”

“Of course I do. Carmen I always do.” I said and hugged her, breathing her in, I could feel her heart beating against my chest.

“I know I’ve let you down,” I breathed into her ears, “I won’t ask you or nag you for being here Carmen but just know that I’m always looking out for you.”

“I didn’t tell you to look out for me! I can take care of myself! I always do!” She pushed me away slightly. “Do you even trust me at all?”

“Yes, yes! Of course I do trust you. So much.” I said visiting her eyes with mine in the most sincere manner.

Oh Carmen.

I wanted to kiss her so badly but right now wasn’t a good time.

“Come let’s go home.” I said and guided her into the car, she got in while I got in after her, car door was closed and the chauffeur started off the car and it began to move.

She sat few spaces away from me, guess she’s still angry and don’t want to have anything to do with me for now. I understand.

“Are you okay?” She suddenly asked and I swear, I didn’t know what to answer, her face turned towards me and I didn’t know when I broke out from the manly shadow, I didn’t even know what to answer.

“Uh…” Even my voice betrayed me. She made me lean on her while she patted my head.

“Cry all you want. I’m here now. Just cry like you want before you face the world, before you face the media and even your family.” She said and like magic, I began to cry, harder than I’ve ever done in my life.

I sobbed uncontrollably, all the emotions I had been holding in finally spilling out. I felt her arms around me, her hand gently stroking my hair, and I leaned into her, needing the comfort she was offering. I cried for what felt like hours, until finally the sobs subsided and I felt calmer. I sat up, wiping the tears from my face.

The car stopped and the car door opened by the guards. She offered me her handkerchief, “Here, I guess you have to be a man now.” She said without batting an eyelid.

I took it from her and cleared up my eyes pretty well. “Thank you.” I said and got out followed by her, she marched into the house.

Into the living room, I grabbed her arm and made her to turn and look at me. “What?”

“I need to get you treated else you might get tetanus on__”

“I’m fine.”

Stubborn Carmen. Won’t stop cutting me off. Well, I won’t let her start acting strong with me, not right now. I led her to the couch and sat her down while I signaled one of the guards to get me the first aid kit.

She sat on the couch and crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. “What are you doing?” she asked, suspicion lacing her voice. “You don’t need to take care of me, I’m fine.”

“Just let me do this,” I said, opening the first aid kit and taking out some antiseptic and a bandage. “It won’t take long, and then we can talk about everything else.”

She rolled her eyes, but she didn’t protest as I cleaned and bandaged her feet. When I was done, I looked up at her, and she was watching me carefully.

Then she brought her hand to my face. “You don’t have to give up the company, we can make things right without having to do that.”

“Can we not talk about this now?” I said as I stood up and sat down beside her. “Let’s talk about you. How are you doing?” I asked her.

“Not fine. I want to chew you up if I can. Maybe kill your whole family if I can instead. But then I found out that your father is dead and I’m deeply pained but I have no time to act on my emotions since it would be so disadvantageous to me.” She looked away from me.
“I wanna go see my father to know how he’s taking your father’s death but I can’t, not with you so torn apart and useless to me right now.”

Old Carmen is back.

Her tongue as sharp as razor. Never fails to use it against anyone, just the way I’ve always known and loved her.

She turned to look at me again before getting up. “I’m being serious, I don’t know what’s exactly going on but, don’t you dare give up on that company. Else__”

“Else what?” I asked softly, getting up to my two feet, my height intimidating hers.

“You gonna have to lose me or maybe divorce me__and I mean it.”

“Carmen,” I guess she’s so serious after all. “Carmen, that was my father’s last wish.”

“Does it look like I care? How about I kill Bernadette? Would she have to inherit it? Or maybe Louisa or Victoria? Or maybe your cousin’s?”

“Carmen! Stop making silly jokes like that?”

“Does it look like I’m joking?”

I stared at her, my heart sinking. She was serious, I could see it in her eyes. I had never seen her so angry, so bitter.

“I’m not going to give up on the company,” I said, my voice calm and steady. Maybe that will make her feel a little better. “I’m not going to let it come between us either. You’re more important to me than any company, and I’ll prove it to you.”

She looked at me, her face unreadable. Finally, she gave a small nod. “Okay,” she said, her voice barely audible.

“Good,” she added, and then she turned and walked out of the room.

FAMILY FEUD: WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON IN THE ALEJANDROZZ FAMILY?

CARMEN AND RICARDO: ??

LUCIA’S POV

The country is in such a big heat because of the Alejandrozz death and the sign off, then Carmen’s silly action towards her husband. The headlines is all about them and the harsh reviews are always directed at Carmen.

__Why did he have to put up with such an arrogant child? Why slap him?

__ That little brat should have some manners, embarrassing your own husband infront of everyone.

__Even after cheating on Ricardo, still have the guts to slap him?

__Why is she still married to Mr. Ricardo? I thought they’ve gotten a divorce?

__Is that the way to grieve with your husband’s family? Carmen is really a child. Mr. Sebastian might be doing a good job in his company but he did a bad job raising his daughter.

__ Mr. Ricardo just lost his father and his silly little teenage wife won’t have some respect.

I know it was actually wrong to feel bad at this moment in Ricardo’s life but I love it. At least, if not for anything. I’m not getting the treatment I deserved for being the person who poisoned Carmen. At least, that topic won’t be visited for a long while.

I will send Ricardo my condolences when I deem it fit and probably, pay Carmen a friendly visit since we’re that sort of friends anyway.

Tsk!

The little girl thought she was smart from the beginning.

The girl was a bit naïve to think that she could outsmart everyone. She didn’t know what she was getting herself into, and now she was going to have to face the consequences of her actions.

I still can’t help but feel a bit sorry for her. She was just a child, after all, and she didn’t know any better. But I also knew that she had made a huge mistake, and that she would have to live with the consequences. I just hoped that she would learn from this experience, and that she would be able to move on with her life.

I dropped my phone after running through the headlines and comments one more time, I came across the post about Carmen and Edgar, the comments, so harsh. I know that wherever she is right now, she’d be thinking of how she’s going to kill herself.

The little witch. I just wish she will regret ever raising her hands on me in her life. I just wish she can come to me one day and apologize for ever laying her hands on me.

Tsk.

I dropped my phone and went to get the door as the door bell kept ringing repeatedly without stopping.

I opened it and I was greeted with a slap, severally until I lost count and unable to concentrate.

Who is this person?

“Hey Lucia?”

It was Carmen’s voice.

“Finally I’ve come to visit you.” She said chuckling, fear gripped me. How did she find my house? And by this time of the night? How did she get in? With all the securities in this house?

“How did you get here?” I asked while she smirked, concentrating my eyes, I could see that she didn’t come alone, she came with a few men, maybe her bodyguards.

Sh|t!!

“I have my ways,” she said, smiling mischievously. “And let’s just say I’m pretty resourceful when it comes to getting what I want.”

I felt my heart pounding in my chest, and I knew I had to be careful. This witch is quite dangerous, and I had to be on my guard. I had to be smart, and I had to be careful.

“What do you want?” I asked, my voice trembling.

“Oh, I just want to talk,” she said, her eyes twinkling. “Hey! Tie her up!!” She yelled and I gasped in fear trying to get away from those men and away from her.

“Leave me alone?!” I wriggled as I was sat down forcefully to a chair and my hands tied up together behind me.

She was smiling mischievously towards me. “I tried to make this go smoothly,” she grabbed a chair and sat down, “I wanted this to run very smoothly, where you will have to confess to your sins without being forced to do so but I guess I was wrong. Carmen brutal way is always better.”

“Carmen.” I trembled out her name.

“What, you ready to talk or you want me to beat you into doing that?”

My heart sank into my stomach, “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Well, I guess you’re not ready to talk yet.”

She stood up and I noticed her dressing, in black boots, black pants and a black leather jacket, she looked like a character from a spy movie, all dressed in black and looking absolutely fierce.

I need not be told that she came fully prepared for me.
I know she can tear me up if I don’t start talking. As she grabbed my hair, my well permed hair, the whole truth began to burst out of me….
