Chapter 14
Nathan walked in.
“She’s asleep”He said to Erik when he saw Kiara lying on the couch.
Erik nodded.
“She must be so tired to have fallen asleep”Nathan said with a tone of concern.
He checked the docvments Kiara had been working on which were on the table.
“Wow,she even helped with the reviews?” He asked “Reviewing was supposed to be your job” He said.
“I know” Erik muttered.
“I knew she would be a good assistant”He smiled.
Erik turned to look at Nathan.
“You’re letting her sleep here?”Nathan asked.
“You want me to wake her up?” Erik asked
“Show her to a room maybe”
“I’d have to wake her to do that and if she wakes up, she’d want to go home”
“You… don’t want her to go home?”
“It’s late already. Besides, she’s…too tired for that”
Nathan grinned, “Well,look at you being caring”
Erik scoffed “I’m not being caring, I’m just stating facts”
“You can lie all you want but I know the truth and would it kill you to admit something of such?” Nathan asked “it’s good to see you being nice”
Erik frowned at him
Nathan tucked his hands in his pocket.
“And, don’t you think it’s way better showing the nice part of you to people who deserve it?”He asked
Erik raised a brow
“Kiara came to check up on you, Ivy didn’t”Nathan shook his head “Even when I told her about your condition”He added before leaving Erik’s room.
Erik folded his lips and watched Nathan leave his room,the sentence he said about Ivy sinking in his head.
Slowly opening her eyes and releasing a yawn,Kiara sat up and rubbed her eyes before looking down at the table in front of her.
It was empty. The docvments she was working on were no longer there.
“Oh my!”She exclaimed, suddenly realizing “I fell asleep”She said before turning on her phone to check what the time was.
Her eyes widened when she saw what the time was – nine fifteen am.
“I spent the night here?”She asked herself although the answer was obvious already. She suddenly gasped when she finally took in her surrounding “I spent the night in Mr Erik’s room?” She looked over her shoulder to see if Erik was on his bed but the bed was empty.
“You’re awake”She heard behind her and turned to see Nathan come into the room.
She stood.
“Mr Nathan…”She muttered.
“Good morning”He smiled but Kiara was more fazed and surprised that she spent the night in Erik’s room and looked round the room instead of responding.
Nathan noticed.
“Ah… You’re suprised you spent the night here”He said and she nodded slowly.
“Well,you fell asleep” He told her.
“Why didn’t anyone wake me?”She asked.
“Mr Erik knew you were tired and didn’t want to stress you so he let you spend the night here instead”
“In his room?”She asked.
“I suggested he took you to a room instead but…” He paused,seeing the look on Kiara’s face “He’s not a pervert if that’s what you’re thinking”
“I…”She chuckled awkwardly.
“He was concerned you’d want to go home if he were to wake you up and he didn’t want that seeing how tired you were. He was just being… Nice” He explained “He’s weird at being nice. I’m sure you think that too”
“Yeah”She said quietly.
“It’s alright to be fazed. I would be too if I were a lady and suddenly woke up, finding myself in a man’s room”He said “But I assure you that Mr Erik is not that kind of person. He might be an overbearing and unfriendly person but he’s not a pervert”
She nodded, accepting his explanation and understanding what he was trying to tell her.
“Speaking of…” She glanced at Erik’s bed “Where’s Mr Erik?”
“He’s at work”
“At work?”She said, sounding surprised.
Nathan nodded.
“He didn’t want to wake you up. He wanted you to wake up yourself and he asked me to make sure you get yourself cleaned up and meet him at the company”He said.
“Of course,I’ll be on my way”She brushed her hair back,quickly going to pick her bag
“Where are you going?”He asked
“Home”She responded “To get cleaned up”
“You can do that here”
“I have no extra clothes to change into”
“Mr Erik took care of that already”Nathan smiled “Come with me”He said
“Took…Care?”She muttered,giving Nathan a quizzical look.
“Come on”He urged and she followed him.
He led her to a room.
It looked like Erik’s, only that it had no mini sitting room and Erik’s room was larger than it.
“That’s the bathroom”He pointed at a door in the room. “Before he left,Mr Erik asked a maid get you a dress to change into. It’s in the closet. Come out for breakfast once you’re through. Mr Erik said you didn’t touch your lunch or dinner yesterday” He said “Let me know if you need anything else”
“I’m…Okay,thank you”She said
He smiled before leaving.
Kiara walked to the closet and opened it.
The only clothes in it was a jumpsuit and a pink shirt.
A pair of sneakers were also in it
She brought the clothes out,her lips slowly curving up to a smile.
“Why’d he get me this? I thought he didn’t like seeing me dress like this”She muttered “Or…Maybe the maid was the one who chose this”She said again. “He’s not that considerate”She shook her head.
She placed the clothes on the bed and suddenly remembered Nathan telling her that Erik didn’t wake her because she was tired and also wanted her to eat breakfast since she didn’t eat her lunch and dinner
“He noticed”She muttered “I didn’t think he would. Maybe he does have a part of him that’s nice”She smiled but later shuddered “His niceness freaks me out” She said before heading to the bathroom.

“Hey there late comer”Ken said to Kiara as she walked in.
She dropped her bag on the table.
“Good morning”She exhaled.
Ken responded with a smile.
“Mr Erik is at the board meeting already”She said
Ken nodded
“He… doesn’t need me there, does he?”She asked.
“No, you’re not expected to go with him to board meetings”
She sat down.
“Why’d you come late?”Ken asked
“I… Overslept”
“What time did you leave Mr Erik’s house yesterday?”
“Um…”She cleared her throat “late”She responded.
“Of course. You both got the docvments ready for the board meeting. No doubt it took a lot of time”He said “Good job”He smiled and she smiled also. “Um…If you don’t mind,I have to be somewhere”Ken said
“Where?”
“Tech room”He answered before leaving the office.
Ken got to the lab and stood by a corner,watching Emily.
He’s been thinking about her and what she said since the day they had lunch together.
He badly wanted to have a conversation with her again but he had no idea how to ask her especially now that he knew she thought he was the one avoiding her.
He smiled as he lost himself, gazing at her.
He had always found her beautiful.
Emily adjusted her glasses and looked up from what she was doing.
Ken turned so she wouldn’t see him.
“Hey”He heard Lex’s voice.
He turned to face him.
“Kiara isn’t with you”Lex said.
“If you assumed we go everywhere together, that’s a really dumb assumption. She’s Mr Erik’s assistant not mine”Ken said.
“I’m not trying to pick a fight with you”
“Neither am I”
Lex sighed”I need your help” He said.
“My help?”Ken asked and Lex nodded. “Okay…?”
“Um…I need you to help me convince Kiara to give me a chance to speak with her”
“I… don’t think I can do that”
“Why not?”
“First, it’s uncomfortable for me?”
“Why?”Lex asked “it’s not like you have feelings for her or do you?”
“Um…No”
“So why would it be uncomfortable for you help me ask Kiara…”
“Because… I’m aware of the reason why she’s angry with you and I don’t feel okay forcing her to have a conversation with you. It has to be her choice”
“I wasn’t asking you to force her”
“I’m sure you know having a conversation with you is the last thing she wants right now and there’s no way I can change her mind without forcing her”
Lex sighed.
“Okay, please,I really need you to help me with this,you seem close to her and that’s why I’m asking you”
“I’m just a friend. She has a best friend who is closer to her,you should ask her best friend”
“Yeah, Daphne. She’s mad at me also” Lex said “Please, help me tell her that I’m really sorry and would like to speak with her”
“Fine”Ken sighed, seeing Lex was really desperate for his help”I’ll help you but if she says no, I’m not going to force her”Ken said.
Lex nodded.
Erik sat on his chair.
He just returned from the board meeting.
Kiara stood in front of his desk.
“Did the board meeting go well sir?”She asked.
He stared at her for a while before nodding.
There was a brief silence between them until Kiara broke it.
“Thank you”Kiara said.
He looked at her questionably.
“The dress and last night,Mr Nathan said you didn’t wake me because…”
“If Nathan made it sound like I was being nice,I wasn’t, just so you know”Erik said “I felt responsible for your safety as your boss so I didn’t want you to go home last night in that state”
“What state?”
He looked at her
“Being tired doesn’t stop me from going to my house”She said “And it was kind of awkward for me, waking up in your room”
“Awkward?” He asked, trying to understand what she meant
“Um…Yeah”
He stood, understanding what she was trying to say.
“There’s no way you’re thinking I’m a pervert,are you?” He asked.
“I…”She swallowed “Well, Mr Nathan made sure to give me a thorough explanation so…”
“By the way,I didn’t ask for your help in reviewing the reports. You wouldn’t have gotten so tired and fallen asleep if you hadn’t helped with the reports”
“I was worried you wouldn’t be able to finish working on the reports if I didn’t help and you needed them for the board meeting. It was the first board meeting this month and I didn’t want anything to go wrong”
He stared at her amidst his frustration that the first time he tried being nice to her,she was taking it the wrong way.
“A thank you or not saying anything about it all would be nice sir”She muttered “I mean,I don’t really need a thank you,I was happy to help but saying that I shouldn’t have helped is…”
“Hurtful? Annoying?”He asked
“Um…A bit”She answered quietly and folded her lips expecting the worst
“Then you know how it feels,being criticized for trying to be nice”
Kiara arched her brow
“Do you think I just let anyone sleep in my room?”He asked
“I thought you weren’t being nice”Kiara said
Erik paused and cleared his throat
“You know,saying a thank you or not saying anything at all would be nice” He said
