Chapter 22
Erik sat on his chair after getting to his desk while Kiara stood in front of it, holding a tablet as usual.
He just arrived at the office.
He looked up at Kiara and a short smile appeared on his face when he saw one of the hairpins he got for her on her hair.
He looked down at the clothes she was putting on.
She was wearing a grey top over a pair of black pants. It made him remember how she dressed the first day she began working as his assistant and also what she said she thought of him the other night at the garden.
Was he the reason she changed her dress style?
That must be one of the many reasons she saw him as a jerk.
“Your schedule sir”Kiara said and he faced her again.
“Yes,of course”He nodded.
Kiara went back to her desk after reading out his schedule to him.
“No meetings this morning?”Ken asked her.
“One. But it’s not until eleven”Kiara answered.
Ken nodded.
“Is he going to be having a date with Miss ivy this week?”He asked.
“No… Why’d you ask?”
“Because he only had one date with her last week and it also didn’t go so well. I thought he and Miss lvy were going to have like… Three dates this week as a result of that even if none of it would end well as usual” Ken said and sighed “Mr Erik tries really hard in keeping his relationship with Miss Ivy alive while she does nothing. Sad”Ken shook his head, sympathy evident in his voice.
Kiara glanced at Erik who was in his office.
Her eyes met with his.
He had been staring at her.
She folded her lips awkwardly and looked away.
“So,how are things between you and Emily?” She asked Ken
“Great. Things are great”He smiled.
Kiara smiled also.
“Thanks for meeting up with me”Daphne said to Emily.
“It sounded really urgent so…”Emily said.
“Thanks”Daphne said with a smile.
“So,you said you wanted to speak to me about Kiara’s stepmom?”
“Yeah,um…” Daphne rested her arms on the table, bring her face a bit close to Emily. “Listen,I know we only just met but I really need your help. After hearing what you said about Kiara changing her major,I completely lost it and… Please promise me you won’t say a word to Kiara about what I plan on telling you. I feel really bad about keeping this from her but I have to and…”She paused and moistened her lips “Promise me you won’t say anything to her”She pleaded.
Emily looked at Daphne for a while before nodding
“I promise”She said.
Daphne exhaled “Thank you”
Emily replied with a nod.
“So,um… Close to a year ago,I was running an errand for my mom when I saw Kiara’s stepmom,Natasha, coming out of a hotel with a man”She said. “I also saw them kiss”
Emily looked stunned for a moment
“I…”Emily shook her head trying to understand what Daphne said “Are you saying Kiara’s stepmom is cheating on her dad?”
“Kiara’s dad passed away years ago and the scene of her kissing another man wouldn’t have been such a big deal and also wouldn’t have pissed me off,I mean,I can still try understand why she would want to be with another man since Kiara’s dad is dead already but…”She sighed and gritted her teeth, getting annoyed already “The man I saw Natasha kiss was Kiara’s uncle, Thomas”
“What?”Emily asked,her eyes widening.
“From the little Kiara has told me about Natasha,Thomas is supposed to be Natasha’s brother”
“Her brother?”Emily asked to be sure
“Yeah”Daphne nodded”You can tell how shocked I was when I witnessed the scene. I couldn’t bring myself to tell Kiara knowing how much she loves Natasha and even if I had told her,she wouldn’t have believed me as a result of the stupid love she has for Natasha plus I have no proof”
“Wow,this is…”Emily muttered,still shocked by what Daphne told her “Her stepmom is having an affair with her brother? That’s…”
“If they even are siblings”Daphne rolled her eyes.
“What?”
“Having that sort of affair with your sibling doesn’t really make sense. Natasha probably lied about Thomas being her brother”Daphne said
“Why would she lie about that?”Emily asked, confused
“I don’t know but the thing is… Kiara loves Natasha,like…A lot. She sees her as this… Perfect and sweet angel which she is not. She keeps doing things, making sacrifices to earn a motherly love from Natasha. I mean… I get why Kiara wants Natasha’s motherly love but knowing that Natasha is the exact opposite of what Kiara sees her to be and seeing her do things to earn Natasha’s love…”Daphne shook her head “Natasha doesn’t deserve everything Kiara has been doing for her especially changing her major so she could help her with her stupid supermarket. I can’t keep watching Kiara do these things. It really hurts and annoys me…”
“Why does Kiara want Natasha’s motherly love so bad?”
Daphne bit her lower lip.
“Kiara’s mom died immediately after she was birthed. She grew up without a mother and when Natasha came into her life…She… You can tell how happy she must have felt knowing that she now had someone who could fill the space in her life that her mother couldn’t fill”
Emily nodded.
“I understand it too but I just want her to stop. She’s done enough for Natasha. It’s high time she stopped”Daphne said, feeling really concerned and hurt.
“Can’t you talk to her about it,get her to stop or reduce it even if you can’t tell her about Natasha’s affair”
“Believe me, I’ve tried countless times but we always end up fighting”Daphne said “The only way I can get her to stop is by showing her who Natasha truly is”
“How are you going to do that?”
“A picture of Natasha and Thomas kissing or having their illicit affair should be enough”
“And… This is where you need my help?”
“Yeah”Daphne nodded.
“Do you think you can help me get a tracking device and tiny cameras I can plant on her office and her car?”
“You want to spy on her?”
“That’s the easiest and fastest way to get the pic I need. So,do you think you can help me get it. You work in a tech company and should be able to know the best ones that can help me”
Emily nodded.
“But,what if Natasha catches you spying on her?”She asked
“She won’t”Daphne shook her head “And I also need you to make sure that Kiara doesn’t find out also”
Emily nodded.
Daphne smiled.
Erik turned of his laptop and stood when he was done with what he was typing.
He came out of his office and met Kiara working on some files.
Ken had left already.
“You’re not done yet?”He asked her,tucking his hands in his pocket.
She shook her head.
“You can keep it and work on it tomorrow”He said
“There’s no need for that, I’m almost done”She said and continued working on the files.
Erik sighed and later cleared his throat
“Let’s go out for dinner”He said
“What?”She looked up at him.
“You said you’d stay with me whenever I feel
down” He said
“You’re… Feeling down?” Kiara muttered.
“No,but I do feel like eating some corn dogs”He said.

Kiara watched as Erik ate the last corn dog on his plate.
“And you criticized me for having corn dogs for dinner”She muttered.
“That was before I got to taste it”He said and folded his arms.
She chuckled lightly before looking away, bringing her gaze to the ferris wheel. The colorful bright lights on it reminded her of the tower.
She smiled.
Erik watched her with a smile on his face.
The way her hazel eyes glistened in the night, coupled with her dazzling smile which added more radiance to her already pretty face.
“Kiara”He suddenly called and she turned to look at him. “Was I the reason you changed your style of dressing?”He asked.
