Harry, Ellie, and Hannah walked slowly into Detective Lewis’s office.
“Am going to take care of this”
He said to one of the policemen.
“Alright, detective
The cop replied and walked away. Detective Lewis sighed and walked into his office closing the door behind him.
“Detective… Why is Ethan arrested again?”
Ellie asked immediately before he could have his seat.
Detective Lewis took his seat.
“First, Luke has been bailed out from jail. He is free now
His father came back sooner than expected”
“Wait a minute, is Luke’s father behind Ethan’s arrest again?”
Ellie asked.
Hannah looked confused.
“Who is Luke? Do I seem to know him?”
Detective Lewis looked at her.
“Am sorry, have we met before?”
“No, we haven’t… Am Ethan’s sister”
Hannah replied.

“My hands are tied. The captain is taking it seriously cos it’s Mr George’s case”
Ethan is being charged to court in the next few days, they are not taking it slowly”
Detective Lewis said.

Harry asked.
Hannah and Ellie looked at him.
“Am disappointed in you, Harry.
As Ethan’s best friend, ain’t you supposed to trust him?”
Ellie said.
“I have known Ethan for some months now, he can never do that kind of thing”
Hannah was surprised Ellie defended her brother.

He didn’t kill her”

“Well, there is a piece of evidence with them that says otherwise”
Detective Lewis replied.
“Can we see him?
Harry asked.
“Yes, but just for a few minutes.. have been on the Captain’s bad side for siding with Lauren Quinn.
He won’t hesitate to use this to make me lose my job”

The phone in Lauren’s hand slipped and fell to the ground. She was mute for some seconds on hearing the shocking news.
Alex who heard the sound of the smashing phone rushed to her.
“Is everything okay?
He asked.

She said unable to complete her words.
Alex understood immediately. He smiles within himself.
“C’mon… It’s going to be okay”
Alex said and hugged her.

He said within himself and smiled behind Lauren’s back.
Lauren burst into tears on his shoulder.

Harry, Ellie, and Hannah were seated in the visitor’s room waiting for Ethan.
Ellie sighed as she ended the call after speaking with Lauren.
“How is she?
Harry asked.
“She is sad when I inform her about Ethan’s arrest…
Ellie replied.
“Am sorry for her, she has gone through a lot, and now this”
Harry said.
“Yeah… Ethan and Lauren really love each other. He promised he would be there for her any time of the day but Mr. George short and cut off that promise”
Ellie also said.
Some minutes later, Ethan walked in a red prison dress with his hands handcuffed.
He wanted to cry when he saw everyone… The cop forced him to take a seat.
“Five minutes…
The cop said before going out.
“How are you coping in there?”
Ellie asked.
“Am fine… Am. Okay, how is Lauren doing?”
“This isn’t the time to be worried about Lauren or wh@tëver her name is.
You are about to face a death sentence at least, you should be worried about yourself now”
Hannah said.
“Hannah, am going to get out of here soon, alright?
You all should relax”
He said and smiled.

Another cop entered.

He said and grabbed Ethan’s arm.

The cop replied.
Hannah was surprised and seemed offended. Ethan who knows her sister as a stubborn lady, knows she will want to fight back.
Hannah wanted to hit the cop but Ethan stopped her.

We are in a deeper problem now, don’t add to it”
Ethan whispered to her.

The cop boasted. He dragged Ethan back to his position. Ethan quickly placed a sheet of paper into Harry’s pocket.
Harry looked at his pocket and back at Ethan.
Ethan winked at him.
The cop dragged him out immediately.
~(Outside the police building)~
“Alright, I will head back my way now”
Ellie said and adjusted her ear.
“Thanks so much for today, Ellie
I really appreciate it.
Hannah said.
“Now, I know that Ethan has people that love him so much”
“Ethan is a friendly guy.
He is the first person I truly have a crush on but unfortunately, we didn’t end up together”
Ellie replied and smiled.
“Well, there are better men out there”
Hannah said.

Harry made a fake cough and adjusted his shirt.
“There are better now out there”
Ellie and Hannah looked at him for a while.
“I will head home now”

“We need to get a lawyer immediately”

Harry waited as he sipped his drink slowly. He seems to be waiting for someone. He looked around the bar but no one was coming at him.
He checked his watch to keep track of his time.
“Where is he?”

Someone replied and stood in front of him.
Harry looked at him.
“Who are you?
“Am sorry… Are you Harry? We spoke on the phone about meeting on Ethan’s case”
Jemmy asked.

Jemmy had her seat opposite him.

“Alright sir, I will have it done as soon as possible”
Captain of LPD said over the phone. He hangs up and drops his phone on the table before facing Detective Lewis.
“Mr George said we should spice things up fast…
So Ethan Baker will be charged to court tomorrow, you can inform the criminal bastard to get a lawyer if he wants a lighter sentence”
“But, sir…
I think Ethan’s case should be reviewed carefully. There is no need to rush things”
Detective Lewis said.
“My hands are tied.
There is nothing I can do, just prepare the appropriate file for his charging”
He replied.

Detective Lewis sighed and walked out.

Ellie stares at the TV as she throws a popcorn into her mouth. The rain was falling heavily outside. The sound of the rain couldn’t allow her to hear the audio sound from her TV. She just put it off and lie on the couch. She brought out her phone and saw Alex call.
She quickly jerked up surprised by his call.
“Why is Alex calling me by this time of the night?”
She wondered and called him back.
“Ellie??
Alex’s voice was trembling. She could sense something is wrong.
“Alex…
What’s wrong?
“Come over to the hospital right now… Am taking Lauren to the hospital. Her water just broke.
“What?
I thought her due date was just in a week”
Ellie replied and stood up.
“Well, her due date is now
So please, come over to the hospital now… Am taking her there right now”
“Alright, am on my way”
She quickly unchanged in the living room from her night dress and rushed to her bedroom to get on normal clothes.
Then she realized it was still raining.
“Oh gosh.. Lauren, this is the bad time for you to give birth”

She walked into the heavy rain towards her car garage. She stepped into the car and drove out of her compound within a minute.
She drove across the road under the heavy rain in the dead of the night.
All she could think of was her safety to the hospital cos she could barely see the watery, wet, and dark road.
The thunder came on creating lightning in the sky.
In a few minutes, she got to the hospital and rushed inside. Alex was already in the lobby pacing around.
“Hey,… Where is she now?
She asked as she rushed to Alex.
“She is in the Labor room now, doctor James is with her”
Alex replied.
Ellie breathed a sigh of relief.
“That’s good news”
“Would you like to change?
I think your clothes are soaked already”
“No, it’s okay… ”
Ellie replied and sat down.
~The next morning ~
Ellie and Alex slept off on the iron seat. A nurse came to wake them up.
“It’s morning, sir…
The nurse said.
Alex and Ellie jerk up.
“How is she now?”
Ellie asked.
“She is still in labor till now”
The nurse replied.

What happened?”
“Only the doctor can explain that but there is nothing to be afraid of..
Longer hours of labor are normal”
She replied and walked away.
Alex sighed and rubbed his face. The rain is still pouring but not heavily. It seems the rain took some minutes to rest.
A text popped into Ellie’s phone. She reads it.
“Oh gosh, today is Ethan’s trial at the court”
Ellie said.
Alex smile.
“Is that fast??
“Yeah… Obviously Luke wants him out of his way”
Ellie replied.
“Have you guys hired a lawyer?
“Yes, we already did.
We just hope for the best”
Ellie replied and dropped a voicemail message for Harry.
“Hey, Harry…
I won’t be available in court today because Lauren is in labor and am currently at the hospital”
She said and put off her phone.
Suddenly, a few people walked into the hospital.
Jessica, Stephan, Beth, Mrs Elizabeth, and some members of the social department.
Ellie was surprised.
“What are you all doing here?”
Ellie asked.
“We received information about Lauren’s labor, so we rushed over immediately”
Jessica replied.
Ellie couldn’t hold her tears.
She hugged Jessica. Everyone came over to hug her. All of them are partially soaked because of the rain.
Alex just watched.
