◇KIARA POV◇
” Always remember, Don’t talk to strangers in school, you should only talk to people you know and your teachers, okay”. Iris nodded and Jon stared at me blankly.
” Jon” I warned.
” Yes, Mom”. I smiled before kissing them on their cheeks.
” Protect your sister always and make sure you don’t get into any trouble” Jon nodded his head before holding Iris’s hand.
” Bye,” I smiled waving at them.
I stared at the beautiful school building for the last time before entering my car and drove off. Paying for their school fees hasn’t been a problem for me since day 1. Mr Thompson made sure I enrolled them into a private school that was expensive and he paid the fees. I couldn’t be more happy to have a supportive person in my children’s lives.
I got a job as an assistant in a company. My boss is the nicest person I have ever seen. After hearing I had twins, he made sure I didn’t work too much and I went home early. He was a proud father of two grown-up children, his kids are even married now and he had a wife.
I feel like I am having a perfect life right now.
” Sir, your coffee” Mr Grey smiled before taking the coffee from me.
” Did you get the file from yesterday?” He asked.
” Yes sir” I answered.
” Send it to my office when you’re done settling down” he said when he saw my bag was still in my hand. I smiled before walking out of his office.
I gave Mr grey the file before going to my office to start the work of the day. Mr Grey’s son and his wife were coming to Texas to stay there permanently. I have never seen Mr grey that happy when he got a call from his son. That was so sweet.
I was supposed to go with Grey to welcome them from the airport but I got a call from Iris and Jon’s school, telling me Iris had a flu. But she was perfectly okay this morning. I got permission from Mr Grey and then went to Iris’s school.
Seeing Iris almost made me tear up, she looked so sick, and her eyes brightened when she saw me.
” My baby” I called softly when she hugged me.
” How are you feeling” I said as she touched her face.
“I-I feel tired” I kissed her softly before carrying her.
” You’re going to be okay very soon, okay?” I kissed her forehead before walking towards the car. Jon was still in school so I had to call my mom to pick him up. I needed to take Iris to the hospital.
“These are the drugs prescribed for her, Make sure she doesn’t take anything cold and also should not play too much” the doctor said I nodded.
” Mama, I don’t like drugs” she cried out by the time we were already out of the hospital.
” You have to take it in other to get better and play” Iris frowned before hiding her face in the crook of my neck.
” I don’t want it” she grumbles. I stopped at the parking lot.
” Do you want to play with your brother?” I asked and she nodded slowly.
” You love ice cream right?” She nodded again.
” Then you have to take your drugs, if you don’t take them you will not be able to play with your brother or even get ice cream” she sighs before hiding her face in my neck again.
I continued walking to the car while still trying to convince Iris why it was good for her to take her medicine.
” Kiara” I heard my name. Hm. I turned around to see who called me.
“Kiara” he called again smiling, his smile dropped immediately when he saw Iris.
” Lucas” I called slowly. Wait, Lucas. I looked at him from head to toe, d@mn, he is looking so fine…
” Yh” he tried to smile again with his eyes still on Iris. Woah, he has changed a lot.
” How are you?”He asked.
” I’m okay, what about you?”.
” I am okay” he narrowed his eyes before pointing at Iris.
” She’s your cousin?” He asked cluelessly.
Lucas never knew about me and Jarden’s relationship or me even getting pregnant. We didn’t talk after that dare-or-dare incident.
” Nah, she’s my daughter” he gasps and his eyes widen. He quickly retains himself before asking.
” oh, You’re married?” This is one of the reasons why I h@të meeting one of my classmates or old friends. The same question every time.
” No” I answered plainly.
” Oh I’m so sorry” he apologized. Iris turns to look at him, and his eyes widen once again.
” This is Iris? Wait! It’s impossible” he paused staring at me blankly. ” Is this Jarden’s child?” Wow, he figured it out easily. I smiled before nodding.
” She looks a lot like Iris” his gaze didn’t leave her
” I am Iris” Iris said and I smiled.
” You’re Iris” his tone softened and she nodded.
” You’re beautiful”. Iris put her face in my neck again probably blushing. Lucas laughed. So adorable.
” Sorry about Jarden”. Another word I h@të hearing.
” I never knew you had a daughter”.
” And a son” I completed then his eyes widened again.
” You had twins?” He asked And I nodded.
” So.. she is my niece”
” Hm, technically”.
Lucas took my contact so we could get in touch some other time, he glowed up even more.
When I got home, nobody was home, I guessed my mom went to get Jon because it was almost time for him to close. I cooked lunch and then fed Iris who was looking better than before.
It was a battle for me to give her, the medicine, I spent 30 minutes giving her just Medicine. Some kids like and will willingly take their drugs but when it comes to Iris and Jon, oh lord just kill me. Jon is worse.
I checked the time, it was already past the time they were supposed to come, I wondered why Mom wasn’t back by now.
” Mama” Iris called slowly by the time we were on the bed.
” Yh baby”.
” Who is Jar- Jared” she asked as she slowly played with the knot on my shirt. Oh Sh|t! Lucas! What do I tell her now? That Jarden is her father or her uncle or….. Damnit. God knows I h@të lying to my kids but this is another level.
” Uhm, he is your father,” I said sincerely. Her head immediately turned to look at me. I could see the excitement that was in her eyes immediately after I said that. d@mn Jarden.
” Where is he?” She asked now fully engaged in the conversation. Only if I knew.
” He- he went to fight in a war” I said and her doe and shining eyes turned to a sad one.
” Why war?” She asked slowly.
” Because they have to protect people, from danger” Oh Lord have mercy on me.
” He is a soldier?” Her eyes widened even more when I nodded.
” Then when is he coming back”. I stare at her contemplating what to tell her.
” Very soon” I murmured. Iris yawned, her eyes started closing by the time I was massaging her scalps.
” Sleep tight baby” I murmured. A Part of me felt bad for lying to her. What could I have done?
” Honey” I heard mom called. I slowly removed Iris’s head from my chest and then stood up. The kids normally close by 2 pm I don’t know why mom is coming back by 4 pm.
I entered the living room to see a very pissed mom and an angry-looking Jon. Oh, what have he done now?
” Your son fought in school today,” Mom said immediately when she saw me.
” I was protecting Iris” he said and Mom rolled her eyes. I sigh before walking towards him. I bent at his front before holding his hands.
” What Happened?” I asked. He frowned before Turning his face to the other side.
” See what I am talking about, he doesn’t want to tell anybody what happened, and now he has to stay for some stupid little children’s detention” Mom spat out. I know it’s hard to get things out of Jon, he is supposed to act like a six-year-old but he just tends to be more mature than his age. He was so hardheaded.
” Tell Mommy what Happened and I won’t judge” he looked at me for a while before tearing up. Why was he crying? He rarely cried. I looked at my mom who looked back at me.
” Don’t cry baby” I hugged him.
“I-I was hanging out with my other friends, then one random guy came to meet me then asked me why Iris wasn’t around, I was trying to be polite because you always scold me when I was rude, so I told him she had a flu” he stopped talking then looked at me.
” He said the reason why Iris had a flu was because we Don’t have a dad” His last sentence broke my heart. I have never seen Jon cry because he wanted a dad and all that but it seems that this pained him but it pained me more. Sh|t, that kid deserves it.
” He said my dad abandoned us, is that true Mom?” I stare at him blankly. I didn’t know the answer to that. His dad did not abandon them, but I was the one he left.
” No, he didn’t, honey”.I said calmly.
” Then where is he?”
