Chapter Six
Beak-Hyun resumed his father’s company, IRIVER as the CEO. The
the company was Founded in 1999, IRIVER is a Korean consumer electronics manufacturing company and one of the top electronics manufacturers in South Korea. Specializes in the production of portable digital audio and video players, and other digital devices such as smartphones, digital cameras, and portable storage devices. Their first product was a portable music player, and many other digital devices have since been produced. The company has a strong reputation for innovation and its products have won numerous awards, including multiple CES Innovation Awards.
Baek-Hyun was signing some files in his office when the Secretary walked in.
“Sir, your meeting with the board of directors is starting now”. she said politely, and Baek-Hyun stopped what he doing.
” Is everything ready?” he asked
“Yes sir”.
” Give me a sec” ” He picks up his suit and wears it, and then picks up his phone, and they leave for the hall, immediately he steps in everyone raised to their seat to show respect, he sat down and they sit down as well, soon his PA move to the dashboard and started talking about the company moving fast. At the staff quarter, the place was a little rowdy as they kept talking about Baek-Hyun
“I can’t stop myself from staying away from him, he is so charming!”.1st staff said smiling.
” you can say that again, but unfortunately, he is taken, he got engaged to the President’s daughter, “2nd staff said.
“Exactly, what a waste”. 1st said sadly.
” But that doesn’t mean we can’t admire him, I wish he was mine,”.3rd staff said, and they chuckled as they continued chatting. Soon the meeting was over, the staff composed themselves as they returned to their work, Baek-Hyun returned to his office with his secretary and PA behind him. He sat down and asked them to go back to their duty, they bowed and left as he continued with the files he left on his table, soon, his cell phone rang, and he picked it up as he saw the caller ID.
“Hey, guys”. he said.
” How is it going buddy?”Chan-yeol’s voice came through the other end.
“Going great, why are you calling me?” he asked.
“We want to invite you to the guys out “. Byung-ho voice came through.
” I’m not going”.
“Come on Baek-hyun, get a life,” Chan-yeol said
“is going to be fun, we will wait for you at the pub, seven pm sharp, see ya”. Byung-ho said as he hung up before Baek-Hyun could say anything.
“Those idiots”. he smiles and continues with what he is doing.
Some hours later, he left to meet them at the pub where they were already chatting and having their beer.
” You are late”.Chan-yeol said and Baek-Hyun scoffed as he took his seat and ordered a bottle of Soju ÇOçktail.
“How was work?” Byung asked.
“Not bad”. he said as he gulped the drink.
” You look stressed out”. Chan-yeol said.
“Yeah, today’s work was hectic” He takes another sip.
“We can see that, that’s why we ask you out”. Byung-ho said. “let’s cheer to life”. they raise their glasses and cheer before having a sip, just then Ha-Jun enters the bar with her friends, they look hot and sëxy in their mini wears. She caught sight of Baek-Hyun and she excused her friends as she walked up to them.
” Hey, guys”. she said smiling and they turned to her surprisedly.
“Wow! You look astonished”. chan-yeol compliment.
” Thank you” ” She smiles and turns to Baek-Hyun.
“What are you doing here?” Beak-Hyun asked.
“I came here with my friends and I didn’t know I would see you guys here”.
” Yeah, we just came to chill out for a while”. Byung-ho said.
“I can see that, anyway I will join my girls now, see you around”. she waved at them as she left to meet her friends in the VIP room.
” gosh! She looks dazzling tonight”. chan-yeol said as she continued to admire her beauty, they stared at him and scoffed.
“Are you crushing on her?”Baek-Hyun asked.
” No, am just complimenting her beauty, besides she is your betrothed and I think she likes you”. he said and Baek-Hyun scoffed as he took a sip from his drink.” so, when are you two going to sit down one on one and discuss your engagement with each other?” he asked.
“Why should we? We are not discussing anything, she should know that I don’t want it”. Baek-Hyun said.
” I don’t think so, maybe she thinks you need more time, you two should find a date to sit and talk about all these arrangements things, explain to her, and she will understand”.Byung-ho said.
“What if she doesn’t and then wants to be with Baek-Hyun?”. Chan-yeol asked and Baek-Hyun let out a sigh as he continued with his drink.
Ji-ho came out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit salad and a glass of orange juice, she sat down on the couch, turned on the TV to her favorite channel, and started eating while watching the show. a few moments later, her cell phone rang, and she picked it up without looking at the caller ID.
” Hello?” she said.
“Hello, little pumpkin”. Baek-Hyun’s voice came through the other end and she was surprised.
“Baek-Hyun?”.
” Yes little pumpkin, is me, how are you?” he asked, and Ji-ho sensed weakness in his voice.
“Are you okay? Where are you right now?” she asked and Baek-Hyun giggled
“I am outside your house”. he said and she was surprised.
” My house? why are you here at this time?” she asked as she took a walk to the window and saw him inside his car outside the building.
“I just want to check up on you, plus I miss you a lot”. he said.
” Just wait right there, am coming over”.She hung up, rushed to the door to wear her slippers, and then went outside to meet him, Baek-Hyun wine down the window of the car, and she saw how weakly and tipsy he looked. “Did you drink?” she asked and he nodded his head.
“Just a little, with my friends”. he smiles and Ji-ho opens the door for him to come down.
” Let’s go inside and I will make you some green tea”.She helped him out of the car and locked it, they staggered inside the house and she helped him sit on the couch” I will be right back”. she said trying to catch her breath and she left to the kitchen, Baek-Hyun rests his body on the couch feeling fragile and dizzy. a few seconds later, she came with the cup of green tea, and she gave him to drink as she sat next to him, he drank it all in a gulp, and Ji-ho helped him place the cup on the table.” just try and rest for a while”.
“Thank you”. he said as he lay down on the couch resting his head on her lap, she was surprised.” much better”. he added and Ji-ho sighed.
“Why did you drink so much if you know you can’t handle it?”
“I only took a bottle of soju ÇOçktail”. he replied with his eyes closed. ” am having a headache, can I get a head massage from you?”.
“O-okay” ” She sighed and started massaging the side of his head tenderly.
” This feels good”. he smiles” I hope you can take care of me like this in the future”. He added and Ji-ho gulped nervously and continued with the massage, soon he drifted to sleep, and Ji-ho stared lovely at his eyes down to his lips, she became hypnotized by him. Slowly she moved her lips closer and kissed him softly, she pulled away slowly and Baek-Hyun opened his eyes as they met with hers, he smiled at her and felt her cheek tenderly and then went back to sleep ” I love you”. he muttered and Ji-ho sigh as she caressed his hair, then his cell phone beeped of an incoming message, she glances through it and saw it was a text from Ha-Jun, as her name appears on the screen of the phone
💬”hey Baek-Hyun, I hope you got home safe. Thanks for the ride home, I hope to see you at the family dinner this weekend, goodnight and sweet dreams”.
Ji-ho sighed sadly after reading the text.
The next morning, Baek-Hyun drove back home, he went inside and was surprised to see his mother at the dining table having her breakfast.
” Where are you coming from?” she asked frowning at him.
“Mom, what are you doing here so early?”.
” I didn’t come in this morning, I came in last night, where did you spend the night?”. she said unfriendly.
“I went out with my friends at the pub”.
” Really? The same friends I called to ask about your whereabouts and they told me, you left with Ha-Jun to take her home, and when I waited for your return, you didn’t show up, so, I had to call Ha-Jun to ask about you, and she said you drove off after dropping her at her house”.
“Mom, am not a kid anymore, you shouldn’t be calling and asking everyone about my whereabouts, besides you never told me you were coming over”. he said.
” I was worried, you never sleep outside except at your friend’s place”.
“Now, I am back, I just need to go inside and freshen up and then head back to the office”. he said as he started climbing the staircase.
” I hope you didn’t forget the dinner with Ha-Jun’s family this weekend? ” she asked.
“Yeah, wh@tëver”. he said nonchalantly and left for his room.
