CHAPTER FOUR
Rose stood waiting for him to say something. She had thought about it for a long time and decided to push through with it. She just needs him to do as she says.
“Am sorry but I think you have gotten the wrong guy”He replied suddenly.
“You know what am talking about.”Rose returned not wanting to give up.
“Look! If this is a way of getting my attention then you are doing it the wrong way. I have somewhere to be and am running late”He returned as he turned to leave once again.
“Then you leave me no choice. I will just have to tell everyone about it” She returned turning to face the crowd who were still watching them with an interest.
“Everyone Listen up. I have got a really juicy infor……”She didn’t get to complete her words because he pulled her back.
“Are you crazy?”he muttered at her.
“Will you listen to me or would you prefer I tell them?”She threatened having the upper hand.
“Is something going on?”Martin asked.
“Of course. I doubt you don’t know about it but I…….” Rose couldn’t talk because he used a hand to cover her mouth.
“Nothing is going on? I have it covered. See you tomorrow” he said as he pushed her into the car.
“Are you sure?”Rose heard Peter saying this time and she turned to stare at him.
He was also starring at her as Louis got in beside her.
“Yes I am. See you tomorrow “Louis returned quickly managing to toss at them before the chauffeur drove off.
“What do you think you are doing?” Louis asked as the chauffeur navigated them out of the school.
“I simply want to talk”She replied as she moved away from him. Clutching Peter jacket around her.
“Do I look like someone you could talk to?”he asked
“Do I look like someone you can strangle almost to the point of death and leave at the school entrance for someone to find”Rose retorted.
“You remember what happened that night?”Louis asked her again and she stared at him incredulously.
“I do! I saw it all and you should be grateful that I haven’t told anyone about it”Rose replied.
“That’s odd. I made sure to erase your memory”Louis said starring at her.
“Well am immune to it and as it turns out I am the only one who knows about it”
“So what? Are you going to use it against me?”He asked.
“More like gain from it. That’s why I came to talk to you”She returned fiercely.
“Stop the car!”Louis said and the chauffeur stopped by the road side.
He got out of the car, coming to her door to pull her out.
“What are you doing?”
“Having the discussion you want”he returned as he stared at her.
“You know who I am or what I am and you coming here to confront me is only because you want something in return for staying shut. Start spilling it”Louis said giving her time to her speak.
She stared at him warily, wondering if she should go ahead with it or not.
“If you aren’t going to talk then it’s best that I leave”He said turning to leave.
“I want you to give me your protection”She quickly said and he stopped to stare at her.
“You want me to do what?” he asked
“Protect me. You rule the school and I know your secret. Am willing to keep shut as long as you give me your protection ”
“Are you threatening me?” He asked again
“Am only making a deal with you. You protect me from the bullies at school and I take your secret to the grave with me. Its a win win situation only if you choose to accept it” she tossed at him hoping he would agree.
Having thought of the idea. She had thought of the good but never thought of the bad.
What if he refuses. This is the last hope she has of being bullied.
“Accept? Just because you know my secret. I must do as you say and protect you. Why not just hire me as your personal guard”He spoke up after a while.
“Try to see reason here. You will be helping me from being bullied and I will be keeping your secret. Who knows, I might be of use to you”She added trying to persuade him.
“Sorry little missy but I won’t be helping you”He gave his answer with out giving it a thought.
He turned to leave but she moved to block his path.
“Aren’t you scared that am going to tell everyone?”She asked
“If you were going to. You would have done so already”He replied.
“I will really do it”She threatened.
“Then be my guest. Have been keeping it a secret for a very long time and it’s getting tiring.”He replied and walked past her.
“Won’t you at least try to help me?”She asked desperately for the last time.
“No. Why? Because am not interested in what has to do with you. I dont meddle with people life. That’s a policy of mine and the next time you try to threaten me again. I will come for you and finish what I failed to do the other time”He threatened and she found herself touching her neck.
“Its good that you have enough sense to think”He added as he stared at her.
He got into the car and drove off. Leaving Rose standing there defeated.
He was her only hope and she had thought that by blackmailing him she would succeed in getting his protection but he had made it clear to her that she couldn’t succeed in doing so.
Feeling beaten, she began to head to the bus station.
THE NEXT DAY
Rose got to class only to find her desk missing as always.
She went looking for it and found it at the thrash block.
She moved towards it to carry it back to class but stopped when she heard students voice on the second floor.
She moved just in time as the flower pot landed on the floor.
Due to impact, Rose fell on the floor starring at the broken flower pot. If she had stayed under it. It might have fallen on her head.
She heard students laughing and turned to see them starring at her.
“Saved by the Bell again”Miranda said as she walked towards her with a guy this time.
“She just had to walk a bit and it would have fallen on her”The guy added starring at her.
“What? Are you surprised? You see I would have stopped when Peter told me to, but you had to ruin it all by getting into Louis car. Do you know how irritating it was for us to see you doing that?” Miranda asked
“What’s it to you if I see Louis ?”Rose asked as she stared at them.
“You slut! Louis is not someone a low life like you can talk to”A female student said and other students echoed her words.
Getting angry by their behaviour, she stood up yelling at them. “What Louis and I do is none of your concern. At least he acknowledge me than you spoilt brats do”She said insulting them all.
“What did you just say?”The guy with Miranda asked as he moved towards her.
“That you all are nothing but brats”She said fiercely.
“You will regret saying that” The guy said moving towards her to hit but the hand never touched her.
She opened her closed eyes to see someone standing in front of her.
“Peter” she thought hopefully but it got shattered when Miranda called Louis name.
“Lifting a hand to strike a woman is acting as coward. Why don’t you hit me instead”Louis said to the guy who almost hit her.
The guy pulled away. Moving away from Louis knowing he would lose.
Louis turned to stare at her before starring at the crowd again.
“As of this day henceforth, Anyone who messes with Rose messes with me. Bully her and get bullied by me. hurt her and get hurt by me. If you are willing to take the risk, you can do it but be rest assured that I will make you pay in hundred folds”He declared.
