Chapter 24
Logan hits away on the computer keyboard with a broody expression on his face; he is lost in thoughts and consumed by questions which he had no answers to. He just couldn’t understand why women were so complicated.
She loved him, she wanted him and he knew that, but then she wouldn’t take his mark. Was there more to this than he already knew? He already knew that she was a sëx worker but those days are over now and he didn’t want to hold on to them, so what exactly was the problem?
He already told her that he didn’t care about her past at all, if she was worried about his family, he would do something about them, he would fight to keep her and no matter who he has to go against, he was willing to keep her forever.
So even after telling and showing her how much she meant to him and how far he was willing to go for her, she still didn’t trust him enough to bear his mark. If he couldn’t feel the love she had for him, then he might said that she was only using him for his wealth like the other girls he had met before her, maybe she just wanted to reap him and take off when she had gotten what she wanted, and that was why she didn’t want an eternal mark of mate.
But no, that wasn’t the reason, she loved him, not just because she was his mate, but because they shared a connection deeper than the mate bond, they loved and understood each other, their souls were accepting of each other.
“Logan!!” he was startled by the mention of his name. He stared at the next desk in the office and saw Bart moping at him with a funny expression.
“What?” Logan asked and creased his eyebrows.
“I should be asking you that. What is wrong with you, man? You have been lost in thoughts for a while now; you didn’t even notice I had been calling your name for the past few minutes, I had to literally scream to get your attention,” Bartholomew complained.
“Oh,” Logan muttered and scratched his head. “Really?” he asked softly.
“Yes, and you know it so don’t play surprised. Tell me man, what is eating you up? I am still your buddy, so you can talk to me,” Bart requested.
Logan sighed and closed down the laptop, and then he looked down at his well-polished black shoes like he was seeing that pair for the very first time.
“You are hesitating, aren’t you?” Bart asked with a smirk. “I want to hear it, even if it is really personal, I mean… I tell you everything about me as my best friend, so it’s only fair that you do the same, even if it is really awkward and embarrassing.” He insisted.
Logan chuckled and stared at him. “Well, it is about Orla, I think there is something wrong with her that I am yet to figure out, she wouldn’t open up to me but I know there is something that doesn’t fit, there is something I am not aware of and I don’t know why she is keeping it to herself but it is really affecting our relationship,” he complained.
“Hmm,” Bart muttered and sat upright. “Okay… you think your mate is keeping something from you, she is your mate Logan and you are an Alpha, just get in her head and find out yourself, you have an advantage there and don’t tell me that you want to respect her privacy, you two are one now, so there should be no secrets between you guys,” he uttered
“Well, that is the problem… I can’t poke my head in her mind even if I wanted to.” Logan replied coldly.
“Why not?” Bart queried with curiosity etched on his face.
“Because I am not yet connected with her, I… I haven’t placed my mark on her because she doesn’t want me to,” he confessed.
The expression on Bartholomew’s face changed from curiosity to shock. “What? I thought you had been intimate with her? You didn’t put a mark on her?” he asked.
“I tried but she wouldn’t let me, that’s why I am worked up. She loves me, and she wants me, I know that… but then, why wouldn’t she let me put a mark on her? That is why I feel that she is keeping something from me. I am really worried about her and I want to help her with wh@tëver this problem of hers is, but to do that, she needs to open up to me. If she doesn’t tell me what is wrong? How do I know how to help her?” Logan complained.
Bart sighed and stroked his chin. “Hmm, this is really serious. I understand how you feel about this, but bear in mind that until you put your mark on her, you can’t say she is yours, being just your mate is not enough, she needs to bear your mark to signify she belongs to you and you alone,” he advised
At least for once in his life, he was taking things seriously, not making a joke out of it like he always does. These two have been friends for quite too long, even with their differences. Humans and werewolves don’t get along so well.
“I already know that, I am the werewolf and you are the human, remember?” Logan joked and chuckled softly. “But what am I supposed to do to make that happen? I am not going to forcefully put a mark on her, am I?”
Bart scratched his head and sat back. “Well, I will advise you to give her more time, just let her get comfortable with you in case she is having second thoughts about you feelings or something, show her how much you love her and want to be with her, I am sure she will open up soon.”
“Hmm… okay, if you say so. By the way, how come you are so good at relationship advice but instead of getting one for yourself, you choose to have fun with slvts and not settle down with one person?” Logan asked with a small chuckle.
Bart laughed. “You know the answer to that question, buddy. Love is just not for me, so why not have fun? My years on this earth are few unlike you that would be available in the next century,” he teased.
Logan smiled and was about to make a comeback when his phone vibrated, he checked the notification and it was a message from an unknown number.
He furrowed his eyebrows and opened the message; he frowned the very next moment. “What the Fuçk?” he muttered softly in a whisper.
The message was from an anonymous person, warning him to stay away from Orla or face the consequences. Who the hell could have sent him that message?
“Okay, I am not a werewolf but I can sense anger in you right now, and I have a feeling it is as a result of the message you just got. What is the problem? Don’t tell me one of your useless ex-girlfriends are back to make trouble again,” Bart joked
Logan forced a smile and shook his head. “No, it is nothing… just a bot message,” he lied. He didn’t want to bother Bart with this as well until he found out who was behind the message.
But who could be giving him such threats? Who else knew of Orla? Was this a prank from his sister or something? Well, whoever this was, he was going to find them and deal with them in his way.
