Alfred and Fannie stood starring at Chris who had a murderous look on his face.
“Chris”Fannie called softly but the look he sent her way got her shrinking back into Alfred arms.
“Have always had my suspicion but I never thought them to be true but after listening to your conversation with him. It’s all clear to me now” Chris said.
“I can explain Chris…..”Fannie began only to be interrupted by Alfred.
“I should have told you the whole thing. Am sorry it has to get like this” Alfred said only for Chris to walk the few distance that separated them to hit him on the face while Fannie yelled out in shock.
“I know you are angry but hitting me won’t solve the issue”Alfred said as he stood up
“But it will make me feel better!” Chris said as he tried to hit Alfred again but Alfred moved back while giving the hit to Chris this time.
“I let you hit me the first time because I deserve it but i won’t let you do it the second time” Alfred said.
“You really are a good for nothing”Chris said as he tried to hit him again but Fannie got in between them. Yelling out a loud No.
By now the people in the club were starring at them. Watching the two studs fight over a woman.
“Stop with the fist fight! Let’s talk”Fannie implored hoping Chris would listen.
“Talk! You want us to talk?Fine then. Let’s do so at my house”He said as he took hold of Fannie hand but Alfred held her back. Stopping them from progressing any further.
“You aren’t taking Fannie anywhere”Alfred commanded.
“Alfred”Fannie called as she gave him a look of assurance.
“Have got to talk to him. I will be back. I promise”She whispered at him while Chris watch them with disgust.
“I will be at the Van mansion. So don’t worry. I owe Chris an explanation ” Fannie implored him again and this time he let go of her while Chris immediately pulled her out of the club.

“Why aren’t we going to the mansion?”Fannie asked as Chris took a left turn when he was meant to take a right.
“I want to be alone when we get to talk”Chris replied still looking angry.
“Chris am sorry”Fannie began gently.
“I didn’t mean to fool you. I was just pressed by the situation then. I accepted because I thought that I felt something and also because I wanted Alfred to leave me alone but all that changed when I realised that I still love Alfred and what I felt for you is just gratitude. I should have told you but I kept putting it off , thinking of ways to tell you. Am sorry you had to find out this way”She said when he stopped the car suddenly.
She looked around to see that they were in his town house. It was a house he used whenever he didn’t feel like going to the mansion.
He got out of the car without saying a word and went to open the door for her. Ordering her to get out.
As soon as she got out of the car. Chris pulled her until they were standing in front of the house.
“This will be our new home after the wedding. We could both live here until we decide to adopt kids just like we planned and then we can get a more bigger and spacious house and……”
“What are you doing Chris?”She asked as she pulled out of his arms.
“Doing what I should have done a long time ago”He said
“Haven’t you been listening to me”
“I have and that’s why have come to this conclusion and that is for you to marry me”Chris said
“Chris let’s not….”
“d@mn it Fannie! I don’t care if you love me or not. All I care about is my reputation. You won’t make me look like a fool in front of everyone!”He yelled at her.
“Just so I won’t be pressured into getting married. I decided to propose to you but it turns out that the girl that have chosen to be my wife is inlove with someone else” he added looking like the devil himself.
Fannie have never seen him this angry before. Seeing this new side of him made her realise that she had hurt him deeply.
“Chris am sorry. I didn’t know you were this hurt by what I……”
“You still don’t get it do you? Am not affected by your loving someone else cause I was never inlove with you. I only wanted a wife. A wife who will get everyone off me. You fit the bill because you knew my wants and everything there is to know about me and so I decided to make you my bride only for you to tell me that you are not interested. Well sorry lady. I won’t be made a laughing stock at tomorrow engagement party. So you will show up there and accept my proposal “Chris ordered
“You owe me that. You owe me for saving your life. For everything have done for you. You owe me a lot “Chris said
“I do owe you but I won’t be paying you back the way you want”Fannie said as she realised Chris true feelings towards her.
“Why? Is it because am not as rich as Alfred?” Chris asked.
“You are also as rich as Alfred but you are not up to his level when it comes to wining a woman heart. I love Alfred and my being with him isn’t a joke”Fannie said
“And you think mine is a joke?”He asked and when she didn’t reply he began to laugh like a maniac.
“You aren’t like this Chris. What’s wrong with you?” Fannie asked as she stared at a new Chris In front of her.
“Maybe I did too good by hiding this other side of me. Everyone noticed except you. You kept on thinking am the good man while I played along”,Chris said.
“Well now I know who and what you are and so I hope that you will leave Alfred and I alone”She said as she turned to leave only to be pulled back roughly.
“I don’t have any intention of letting you go”Chris said
“You have no right to keep me here!” Fannie yelled at him.
“I don’t intend to keep you here but after I tell you this. You would willingly accept my proposal”Chris said
“There is nothing you can tell me right now that will make me change my mind”She said as she managed to pull away from him.
“Not even if your answer depends on Alfred life?” Chris asked and she stopped to stare at him.
“What did you say?”Fannie asked
“Agree to be my wife and Alfred gets to live but if you refuse. Alfred dies before tomorrow sunset”Chris stated.
