DERBY’S
Ivory got to her family house, sighing at the sight. Gina had changed a lot of things since she was given authority over it. She didn’t mind though but she just missed the way things were before the renovation. It reminded her of her parents and she didn’t wanna forget them.
She parked her car along with other different brands of luxurious cars at the garage, getting out and walking into the house.
The maid was just clearing up the left over meal when she got to the dinning room.
“Good day miss Ivory.” She greeted politely.
Ivory smiled, glancing at the table.
“And who was this served to?” She asked the maid.
“Madam Gina and her guests, miss Ivory.” The maid bowed.
Ivory looked at the maid keenly. She seems to be new here and judging from her appearance, she’s really young.
“What is your name?” She asked smiling slightly at her. She loves being familiar with the maids in the house so they won’t have any reason to poison her food..ish.
“Lana ma’am.” She replied curtly.
Ivory smiled sweetly.
“Lana, feel comfortable here okay and if you need anything, do well to let me know.” She said patting her on the shoulder. Lana nodded bowing her head.
“Tell my aunt Gina that I’m in my room.” She ordered, walking towards the elevator. Her room is at the far end of the five story building mansion and so she doesn’t use the stairs.
“Yes ma’am.” Lana replied, taking out the empty plates to the kitchen.
Ivory entered the elevator after it had opened, she sighed weakly, pressing number 4 button on the controls and the doors closed. She brought out her phone to call Swayer but then changed her mind.
“I’ll just go see her instead.” She muttered, shutting her eyes close. She always feels so emotional whenever she’s here as it kept bringing back sad memories. She still hasn’t gotten over the shock of loosing her entire family to a plane crash. If she had gone with them, maybe it would be better than being left behind.
She always faked smiles whenever she’s here especially in the presence of her Aunt Gina. She didn’t want her to worry.
Gina has been her parent, her sibling, her friend and aunty since her family’s demise and she’s so grateful for it all.
She had other relatives but Gina is the closest since she’s practically her godmother too.
The elevator finally stopped at the fourth floor, opening wide for her. She walked out, clutching hard to her phone. Gina tried her best to erase everything that would make her remember her past but it still couldn’t help.
She had removed the paintings on the wall, replacing them with artifacts. Some of them were ugly which gets Ivory laughing each time she passes them. She finally got to her room, swiping her key card and the door creaked open to reveal the large bedroom.
To her, this house feels more like a personal hotel than a house. Everything was just so hotel like, even the rooms. If not for the fact that there’s no massive restaurant downstairs with lots of people eating and chatting, she would have concluded she lives in a hotel.
Her dads idea of a mansion.
She chuckled, remembering how her mom would always complain that it’s hard to find anyone since the place is too big.
Her mom wasn’t so rich before her dad married her. She was just an average young woman working several part time jobs to feed herself and pay her rent.
Her parents weren’t very supportive of her since she declined an arranged marriage they made just to get out of poverty.
Her mother, Yvette Wilson -before she married Mark Derby – believed that marriage should be for love and not vanity money. She never knew she would end up wining the heart of a multi billionaire after accidentally spilling his ordered meal on him.
That was the most embarrassing moment of her life.
Ivory smiled, remembering the stories her mother told her of when she first met her father.
She was on a night shift at a local restaurant. Her father had decided to run away from his classy life for a bit since he had no schedule for the evening so he went to a local restaurant, the same place Yvette worked.
He had ordered a chicken casserole and blue wine to go with it. She was the waitress to deliver but sadly she was clumsy with the tray and the moment she got to him, her tiny fingers slipped off and the entire meal bathed him from his thick black hair to his expensive tuxedo.
Yvette wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole or better yet just disappear.
Thankfully Mark wasn’t a jerky billionaire and seeing the frightened look on her face soften his heart more. He felt sorry for her rather than angry.
The manager had already rushed to the scene, screaming at her carelessness and even fired her in the process but what Mark did next, shocked everyone.
He got up from the seat, dripping of chicken casserole and smiled to the manager.
“I think I should be the one to do the yelling here Mr. As you can see, its just an accident and I bear no grudges against the nice lady.” He said smiling at Yvette.
Yvette kept her gaze on the tiled floor, wishing it would just crack upon and take her away.
“Thank you though for sacking her as this isn’t the right place for a beautiful lady to work in.” He added, grabbing her hand.
Yvette looked up immediately, wondering why this man is holding her hand. Does he want to arrest her? Her life is definitely over now.
“You have such fragile hands to be working in a place like this miss…”
“Y.. Yvette.” She stuttered, shaking a bit.
“Yvette. Such a beautiful name. Well miss Yvette, since you’ve succeeded in chasing me away from this restaurant, I suggest you escort me to the next boutique close by to get cleaned up, don’t you think?” Mark smiled at her. He noticed how shaked up she was and wanted to take her out in the least embarrassing way ever. He h@tëd it when men try to embarrass ladies just because they are under them. He h@tëd how the manager had shouted at her on his behalf and even fired her before he could say a word about what happened.
Yvette looked around and everyone’s mouth were opened, staring at them.
They were expecting a terrible scenerio display but instead they got the opposite.
“I’m so sorry Mr Derby if I gave you the wrong impression but my restaurant is really charitable and I was trying to show my concern for my customers comfort. Yvette can have her job back, it’s all a big misunderstanding.” Manager Cheng pleaded. He knew who Mark is and the fact he had come to his restaurant would have given him a straight five star recommendation if not for his ugly display.
“What do you think Miss Yvette, do you want your job back?” Mark smiled at her. Yvette shook her head immediately as she wasn’t looking forward to working here anymore after this embarrassing night. She would find another job to replace this one as she did need to extra pay.
“Well there you have it. Have a good night.” Mark said placing a bundle of a thousand dollars on the table and taking Yvette out of the place.
Yvette followed him silently as she was still expecting him to scold her for the mess. He stopped infront of his black Lamborghini Gallardo but looked down at his cloth with a frown.
“I can’t get in the car like this, we would have to walk to the boutique. I’ll ask my butler to drive another car to pick us up.” He said facing the shaking Yvette. she just nodded like a scared bunny.
“Hey I’m not arresting you or something. You can stop being afraid already.” Mark smiled and she finally looked up at him.
She trailed the food stain from his tuxedo to his broad shoulders, neck and then finally he’s godly face and she almost gasped in admiration.
“Thank you.” She said quickly removing her gaze. They walked silently to the boutique as Mark didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable. He finally got himself cleaned up and bought a new attire. Even though it’s not expensive as this is the local streets of New York, he didn’t mind.
“I am sorry you have to wear that instead of your fancy suit.” Yvette said as they waited outside for the butler to arrive.
“This is fine too. After all I did wanna escape from that luxury didn’t I?” Mark smiled facing her.
“How old are you? You look very young.”
“I don’t think my age matters.” She said avoiding making eye contact with him.
“Well it does to me Yvette. I don’t want you working at that place or any place like that again.” He said with a serious tone.
Yvette looked up at him immediately.
“I’m sorry but not everyone is as rich and settled as you are. Some of us need to struggle hard and do suffocating jobs to to earn for a living.” She said trying to suppress her glare.
“I know that and that’s why I’m helping you.” He said and a limo drove past them but then reversed back. The driver lowered the glass and gasped upon seeing his cheaply dressed boss. He didn’t almost recognize him.
“What do you mean?” Yvette asked as she watched the butler get out of the drivers seat, walking towards the back seat to open a door for Mark.
“Here,” Mark said handing her a business card.
“Save my number and give me a call once you get home, I’ll let you know and have this too.” He said handing her the keys to the Lamborghini at the rest.
“I believe you can drive.” He smiled entering the car while the butler closed it and went into the drivers seat.
Yvette kept staring at her hands not sure of what just happened. Before she could say anything, the limo was long gone.
She bit her lips, staring at the card.
“Mark Derby, CEO at multi yard cop.” She muttered and then gasped.
Multi yard is the name of the highest multi level marketing company in Colombia and other countries she didn’t know of yet. She’s only familiar with that of Colombia.
How the hell did he end up in a local restaurant?
She strolled to the car which was just two blocks away and thankfully she had a drivers license so driving wasn’t a problem. she touched the car to be sure it’s really there. She never imagined herself in anything as expensive as this.
She smiled looking at up the night sky.
“Thank you Lord.” She smiled, unlocking the car and getting in immediately.
She rubbed her hand over the bonet, still asking if this is really hers.
What will she even tell her parent’s when they see her in this? They may not even believe she met with the famous Mark Derby.
After that day, every other thing that happened was just magical and it lead to a beautiful marriage with three beautiful children.
Ivory the first child and two bouncing baby boys, Daniel and Diego. They were twins and Ivory loved them so much.
Too bad that only lasted for 15 years of her life till everything came clashing down.
Ivory wiped the tears that had been rolling helplessly down her cheeks since she went through memory lane.
She took off her clothes, going into the bathroom to soak herself in warm water. It always seems to calm her nerves when she’s feeling depressed.
