CHAPTER FORTY: (Episode 20)
SKYLAR CONCEIVES: Nine Months Later. (Semi-Final)
Labour had already started before it’s time.
“Milady, you have to push harder.”
“I can’t. I can’t continue. I’m not strong enough to continue! ” She screamed, holding Logan’s hand tight.
” You have to push!”
She breathed in a thousand times, exhaling out with a louder scream.
“Aaaaahhh!!!”
“Push more harder!”
“Aaaaahhh!”
“I can see his head. Almost there. Just one last push. ”
She gasped heavily and continuously. Her hands gripping Logan’s the more.
” Just one last push, milady.”
“Aaaaahhhhhhhh!”
The cry of baby filled the atmosphere.
“It’s a baby boy, milord.”
Skylar on the other side was still recovering from the force labour which almost resulted to bleeding.
“I want to see my child. I want to see my son.” She requested and they brought her son beside her.
She kissed him all over his face, pools of tears washing out of her eyes. Was this really going to be her last day?
“Isn’t he handsome? Just like his father.” She forced a smile on her face.
She looked at Logan who was admiring the creature in her arms. She stared again at her son.
“What should we name him?”
“I don’t know. I’m not good at giving names, I might end up bearing him a naughty one. ”
She chuckled. ” Just mention the name. Don’t be shy, he’s your son. ”
After a long thought, king Logan finally decided. ” His name will be Lukas… Lukas Greene.”
“Lukas. That will be your name. ” She repeated. Lukas started crying, staining the atmosphere with his loud cry.” Why don’t you feel your son, I guess he wants you. ”
As soon as Logan took in his arms, Lukas was quite. Pinching his fingers with his eyes focused at his father.
Skylar all the while kept on smiling as she watched him tapped Luka’s back.
“Babe?” She called.
“Mm-hmm.”
“Can you call me Crystal? I need to talk to her. ”
” Okay. ” He took his child with him as he left the room humming a song.
Few minutes later, Crystal entered.
“Hey,” she whispered softly.
“Hey. How you feeling?”
“Empty. God, my head hurts… a lot.”
“You’re gonna be just fine. Okay? It’s just a matter of time. ”
” Crystal, we both know I’ve got no time again. Today is my last day… ”
Crystal shushed her. ” Don’t you ever say that. You’re not dying okay. That’s just an ordinary fettish prophecy from some kind of creature. ”
” It’s Zeus. ”
” Wh@tëver. I don’t care to know. All I believe is that my friend is not leaving. Come on, who do you want to take care of your child? Logan? ”
” He’s his father… ”
” A child needs his mother the most. You’re a doctor, you can’t expect me to teach you all this. ”
Skylar chuckled. ” Sometimes we forget things. ”
” Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten this part cause I won’t believe you. ”
She held Crystal’s hand, ” I guess I did. ” She smiled.
” How does it feels like on your death bed? ” Crystal asked, changing the topic.
Skylar’s mood changed, face saddened, hands cold and shivering.
“It feels hurtful. Not because I’m leaving anyone, because I won’t get to watch my son grow. How will he look like? Handsome, seductive, or… Will he have the whole world around him? “She guessed.
” He’ll have the whole world around him, except me. ” They both laughed.
She brought out a sheet of paper from her inner Brë@št pocket, handing it to Crystal.
“What’s this?”
“It’s a letter to Vera. She’s been like a sister to me since high school. I last saw her the day I came to Shaman, I don’t even know how she looks like now. Is she married or… missing me or, ” she sniffed in the tears, but they rolled out. ” Just give it to her, please.”
“I will. I promise.”
“There’s a number written in it, it belongs to the driver, Kent. Tell him everything, tell him that I’m not in a condition to return to California. Tell him, I’m the one who sent you. ”
” I will. ”
” If I die… ”
” No, you’re not. ”
” If I die,,, at least before you leave, take care of my son.”
How did she know Crystal was gonna leave?
” Tell him that I always love him and that I still do. Okay?”
Crystal nodded slowly, “okay.”
“Tell him that mama will always be there for him. ”
” I will. ”
” And tell him… Tell him that I’m always with him no matter where I am. Tell him that, will you? ”
” I will. I promise. I will tell him. ” She said in tears.
She was gonna watch her friend die? Of all people why her? Why today?
” Thank you. You’ve been a good friend to me. A very good friend and I’m happy. I love you Crystal, I always do. ”
Crystal held her hands tightly, as they both cried like a child.” I love you too, Skylar. Always.”
Skylar groaned, yelling and screaming in pains. Crystal tried asking what the problem was but she kept on screaming louder the more.
Crystal ran to call on the king and priestess Yennifer for help. On returning, a part of Skylar had already turned pale, fading her beauty away.
“I… I can’t hold it anymore!” She cried. “I can’t hold it anymore! ”
” What’s she talking about?! ” Logan yelled.” What’s happening to my wife? ”
” She’s not going to make it. ” Said Yennifer, trying as much as possible to revive her.
Just as she had foretold. She’ll help reviving Skylar’s life even though it’d be to no avail.
” What does that mean? What are talking about?! ”
” Her… Her highness won’t survive the pains, she’s going to die.”
What?
Die?
That’s never possible!
That’s never going to happen!
” No, she’s not. ” He cried. “She won’t.”
“Yes, she will. That’s the prophecy, it has to be fulfilled. ”
” Logan, ” Skylar’s weak voice called. ” Listen to her. The prophecy must be fulfilled, for our son. ”
” All this time, you knew that this would happen? You knew you were gonna die and yet you didn’t tell me? ”
” I had to. I knew you’d act this way so I made priestess Yennifer keep it as a secret. ”
” But why? ” Tears gradually leaving his eyes.
” I don’t want to see you cry. ”
He shoved his hair, tearfully, sniffing hard. ” You should have let me know. You should have told me. Why?! ”
Skylar couldn’t reply but kept on crying instead. ” I’m so sorry, babe. I was only doing what was right.”
“Right?” He repeated. “You’re gonna die, Skylar, what was right about hiding this from me? I waited for centuries to find you. I’ve sworn not to have another but you by my side. To wake up every morning and look at your face, to feel your breath, your scent, your body always beside me. To have our first son, watch him grow with his mother. I’ve had so many dreams and wishes with you. Why are you leaving me? To wait for another century? ”
Skylar fell speechless. Tears clouding her vision. His words were so piercing, unresistible.
Why does fate has to be this annoying?
“I’m not gonna watch you die, not now, not today.” He concluded.
“Logan, please, don’t do anything stupid I beg you. If I have to die, then let me. I’m begging you, please. ”
She groaned, then choking for air. Her body vibrating in a convulsive way. Crystal bit her fingers to prevent herself from shouting, Logan didn’t lose from her grip even how tighter it was becoming.
“Skylar? Skylar! SKYLAR!!!”
She passed out. And they were all left shocked. Crystal gasped, leaving the room to cry out the rest of her sorrows and pains.
“Nooooooooo!!!” Cried Logan, then piercing his canine teeths into her skin.
” Your highness! No!! ” Cried Yennifer, eyes widened in fear. “What have you done?”
He bit her.
Logan wiped out the blood stains on his lips, “I did what I should have done a long time ago.”
“You don’t know the consequences of what you did. And there’s no running away from it. ”
” Don’t worry, you’ll watch her rise up in a new form. There’s no consequences. ”
” She won’t, even if Zeus was to give her a second chance. You just made a big, a mistake you have to pay. ”
She left the room angrily.
