Sophie POV?
The door opened and Crystal came out of the house
“Best part” I called and rushed to hug her
“What is the meaning of this?” She started trying to push me away but I hugged her more tight
She finally pushed me away making me stagger but I quickly regained my composure
I turned to look at Mom who had a crumpled look on her face
“We agreed to meet, right?” I asked with a smile, obviously fake
Geez, I can’t believe I’m doing this
“Meet? We didn’t…
I cut her short by grabbing her arm, she had that confused look on her face
” Let’s go in,” I said pulling her hand
We got inside the living room and I must confess that it is far bigger than ours. The room smelt wealth.
Crystal’s mom was on a couch sipping her wine slowly while going through a fashion magazine.
“Mrs. Barry” Mom called going to sit
beside her
The woman then turned to look at her with a slight frown
“Excuse me, who are you?”
“We had dinner together the other time in my house” mom explained beaming with a smile.
I sighed deeply, why is mom so desperate?
“You have a lot to explain,” Crystal said pulling my hand
We entered a room, I guess it hers
“Why are you here? when did we agree to meet? are we even friends?” she fired
“I lied to my mom that we are friends and we both agreed to meet”
“Lie? why will you tell her we are friends?”
“I’m sorry” I apologized bowing my head
“Can you just play along? let’s be friends, just for today” I added
” Friends?” she said with a loud scoff
“I can help you to go down there to tell your mom that we aren’t friends” she added with a serious expression
“Please, just help me out today” I pleaded with my hands clasped together
She looked at me for a while before nodding her head making me sigh in relief
“On one condition” she raised her index finger
” This must not happen again” she added and I quickly nodded my head
“I promise it won’t happen again” I replied

We got down the stairs to meet Mom trying to strike up a conversation with the uninterested Crystal’s mom
“How about we have lunch together?tomorrow if you are chanced”
“Am free but I’m not interested” The woman replied taking a sip from her wine
Why doesn’t Mom get it? She is acting all clingy
Just then the door opened and a boy came in, it was Gavin
“How did it go? Did she accept your proposal?” Their mom asked standing up immediately
“I don’t know, she ran away” he replied slumping on the couch
“Did you not memorize what I gave to you? How did you say it?”
“I told her what I feel about her, it came from my heart”
“What are you going to do now?” The woman asked again while he just
shrugged his shoulder
“Did you get rejected?” Mom butted in
I turned to look at her, can’t she just keep shut?
“Kind of” he replied shocking me, if it were to be me, I wouldn’t have answered her
“Should I give you some tips? am good in stuff like this too” Mom uttered
“Never mind” he replied before taking the stairs
“Can we go now?” I asked facing
Now? I thought you are staying for a sleepover?” Mom said shocking me

“I have a lot of assignments to do” I replied
“Oh…Let’s go then”
I sighed in relief standing up
Karianna POV
“Mom, what should I do now?” I whined staring at my ringing phone, it was Gavin calling
“Why did you run away? you should have told him how you feel”
“He is calling”
“Then pick it up and tell him how you feel”
“How should I say it? Gavin, I love you too. It sounds absurd” I said rolling my eyeballs
“Leave my room, I need to observe my siesta” Mom said
“Mom!!, you are not even worried about me”
“Worried? should I run around the whole estate or jump into the lagoon to show that I’m worried?”
“Mom!!”
My phone rang again and Mom snatched the phone from me and picked it up
“Karianna” he called
I held my breath, what should I say now?
“Are you there?” he called out
I cleared my throat nervously
“It’s okay if you don’t like me, you don’t have to feel pressured,” he said
“Goodnight” he added
“Goodnight” I drawled before hanging up
I released the breath I’d been holding, what now?
“Are you okay with what you’ve done? you just lost a good man” mom said making me turn to look at her
“I’m scared, what if he breaks my heart?”
“he can’t, he loves you dearly,” mom said taking my hand
“Give him a chance” she added
I brought out my phone and dialed his number, he picked up the third ring
“Gavin” I called
“What’s wrong?”
“I love you, Gavin,” I said but I got no reply
“Are you there?”I said but I still got no reply
Am I too late? I turned to look at Mom with tears in my eyes.
