The day went by so quickly, it is Alfred Smith company opening today. Summer and I have been working tirelessly through the week to make sure everything went well.
I’m excited for this, I mean why not. My biggest deal ever, no to talk of the bugus money Alfred paid us. I don’t know if it’s one is trick to get me to go on a date with him after the event, then he’s decieving himself.
Summer kept asking me why I said no to him since I’m not involved with anyone.
And honestly, I do not know.
“Babe please sit down, allow Beverly do the remaining. You’ve being running up and down since morning” Roy complains for the hundredth time and Summer keep ignoring him.
“Babe I’m fine I got this ” she says packing the cupcakes into a large box.
“I’m just worried about the baby” Roy pressed on.
“Huh, what baby?” I butt in from where I was standing taping the box.
“I found out I was pregnant last night” Summer answers grinning at me.
I almost push us down with the way I rushed to her. “What!! And you didn’t tell me?”
“I planned on telling you after the event today. And also since you know about the pregnancy now. You should know we’ll be getting married too. He proposed last night also after I found out, even though it wasn’t a big one but I loved it” she blush looking at Roy who has a big smile on his face.
“Are you serious?” I almost screamed. I rush to Roy’s side hitting him. “You, you’re planning to steal my best friend away and you didn’t even tell me. How dare you!” I scoff at him almost laughing at the same time.
“What? I’ve been planning to do that for a long time. You are always around her, it’s time I have her for myself” he smirks.
“I can’t believe you” I sniffed. Bruh, I am crying.
“Hey,are you crying?” Roy says grabbing my chin.
“Fuçk Bev, I was only joking okay? I didn’t plan to propose yesterday. It just felt like the right time. I didn’t even give her a ring yet” Roy tries to explain.
“I’m not crying because of that silly, can’t you see that this is tears of Joy. ” i sniffed again and turn to Summer who pulls me into a hug smiling.
“Congratulations, I’m gonna miss you” I say between sob.
“I’m not going anywhere Bev, I’m still very much around so stop the drama”
“But it won’t be for long, you will leave in few months now. ” I sigh. “I can’t I’m having a goddaughter”
“It’s going to be a boy” Roy cuts in.
Summer scoff as we disengage. “It’s a girl, two against one”
“Yeah, it’s a girl” I grin.
“Okay, we are definitely celebrating tonight” I say and they nod in agreement.
“Triple celebration” Summer squeal.
“Yeah, I think we are running late we should get going ” I say and we pack the box into Roy’s Truck.
When we reached the event, it hasn’t started yet. We came thirty minutes before time and we started getting everything ready.
Few minutes later, it started and two hours later it ended and people are already picking the pastries of their choice on the table we arranged it at.
I have talked to Alfred, I only saw his during the event. The pastries on the table are disappearing one by one and only remains few. Summer was like wise surprised at how fast people rushed. We made over 300 pastries and there are only like 100 people. What is left is not even up to fifty.
“I think they loved it” Summer says and I nod in agreement.
“They do” Someone answers behind us and we both turn to see Alfred smiling at us.
“You guys really did a good job. I gave your number out for a lot people. I mean they kept asking” he added.
“Wow, thank you” Summer replies.
“Thank you, I really appreciate everything” I also said.
“Don’t thank me Beverly, you deserve it” he says stepping closer to me. Immediately he got to my front summer left.
Stupid girl.
“Will you still go on a date with me Bever?” he ask making gulp.
What do I say?
I was about to reply when his phone beep, he read the message he must have got and raise up his hand.
“I’m here!” he shouted to someone waving his hand.
He looked at my face and smile softly, Fuçk! Why do I keep seeing Jesse in this guy.
“Let me introduce you to someone” he said then someone walked from my back.
“Hey couz” he greeted the person and they both hug themselves.
What? Cousin? Jesse?
“Jesse meet Beverly, she’s the one that made the delicious pastries you kept asking me about and Bever this is my cousin and also the one that Constructed this beautiful place. I had to drag him all the way here from France” he chuckles but none of us could laugh back.
We were both staring at each other, waiting for our reaction. I don’t know if I should pretend I didn’t know him or not.
“Yeah Beverly, I know her” he plainly said like I was not something interesting he should care about. And that caused me to wince mentally.
“You know each other? How?” Alfred ask.
“We went to highschool together”
No, not just that. We have something more Jesse. We were….. what were we? Friends with benefits? or Preferably Enemies with benefits.
I look at him, he has a neutral expression I couldn’t read him or tell what was going on in his mind. The way he’s looking at me is so foreign, even when we literally h@të each other. He’s never looked at me with distate like this. Like he doesn’t want me around him.
Fuçk, he still look good as ever. He looks like he’s coming from the barber shop. New hairstyle and stubble are trim perfectly.
“Ohhh” Alfred says and looked at me.
“You haven’t said anything” he says and I feel like slapping him.
I gave him a small smile and then turn to Jesse. “Hi… Jesse” it came out in a whisper. I don’t even know if he heard me.
I cleared my throat and greets him again. He just nod in response.
“I have to go now, I don’t want to miss my flight” Jesse tells Alfred.
“You are leaving?” I ask before I could stop myself.
“Yes” he replies firmly looking at me.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t have anything to do here and I don’t have anyone here worth staying for” he says and that word struck me like lightning. The sudden tension that filled the air around us can be felt even from a distance.
“Hehe what about me?” Alfred laughs awkwardly looking between me and Jesse.
Jesse smile and shake him before saying goodbye to him not me. He left while I’m still standing awkwardly looking at him walk out of the door.
Alfred clears his throat beside me making me turn my attention to him.
“Do you mind to explain what just happened” he raises his eyebrow waiting for an answer from me.
“I’m so sorry, I have to go find summer real quick” I tell him and walk away before he can reply.
