CHAPTER FORTY NINE

WHITE HORSE KINGDOM

Its barely two days before the full moon and the whole kingdom was bubbling with life and energy.

The sweet breeze from the sea filled the air, children ran around, playing with their peers while the adults ran errands in groups, discussing and laughing among themselves.

Their King was visibly happy for the first time in ages and the whole kingdom could feel it.

The seas and the trees could feel it as well.

Both the living and none living things could feel his happiness bubbling inside of them like it was their own.

None of them knew why except for those whose fathers were in the last meeting when the King announced their Lunas return.

Words travelled as they gathered, while some doubted it, some believed it.

Why would the king be merry if not for the queens arrival?

Why would he have a smile plastered on his face as his horse rode him down into the heart of the forest? A girl asked the doubting Thoma’s with a scoff.

One can’t tell of she was happy or not.

She had very dark but beautiful eyes, dark marks was drawn beautiful below her round, not so big and not so small eyes and her eye lid.

She had a look that could bewitch anyone who isn’t careful with their gaze, she looked just like her attitude.

Devilish.

Sitting by her left and right side were two girls, one look at them one can tell they felt intimidated next to her.

They sat by the river side, talking about everything that has been happening in the kingdom, other girls passed and avoid them at all cost.

None of them wanted to be noticed by those devilish dark eyes that was fixed on the flowing river with a deep frown.

I’m so curious to know what our Luna looks like, the girl on her left side spoke with excitement.

Do you think she would be pretty? The second girl asked.

I’m sure she would be pretty, the first girl replied with smile on her face and Jade’s frown deepened.

She’s definitely not pretty, now shut up you both! she snapped and they both pursed their lips.

Angrily, Jade got up and began taking her clothes off, the two girls got up too and went to stand at the entrance of the river to stop anyone else from coming in when she was taking a bath.

Jade wasn’t a princess, she was the daughter of the head of their clan, Lancelot.

Even though the position was rotatory, it didn’t stop her from acting like she owns the kingdom.

Her father already assured her that she would be the queen someday, he promised to take the throne and become king and since she is an only child, she would be the one to rule the kingdom after he’s gone.

He lied to her.

Women never rule in White Horse Kingdom.

Lancelot knew this but he lied to make her ambitious enough to lure her friends to him for his monthly sacrifices.

Since Jade was born after Lancelot turned his wife to a vampire and started to force her to drink the blood of his prey every month, Jade was born a banshee and a vampire too.

But a vicious one.

She was very powerful and dangerous.

As a banshee she would go to the window of her dads next prey, screaming.

She makes sure to put fear in their hearts, making them think their death is near, then she starts to haunt them every and anywhere.

She would make sure to continue this till they get so scared and vulnerable then her father, Lancelot can easily kidnap them.

She’s been an accomplice to the killings even though she didn’t know what it was for.

She was willing to do anything to get her dad to the throne.

She was not blind to her mothers plight, she knew her mother was locked up for years but she never visited.

She didn’t want to associate herself with a weak mother

She knew her mother wasn’t in support of what they were after, her mother wasnt in support of how she parades herself in the village and she used to get reprimanded by her.

Anyone who isn’t with me is against me and that makes them my enemies, she would always say.

Buried deep into the river where she had her bath, she couldn’t help but get mad that the Kings Luna is finally coming.

Everyone knows how powerful King Wright is, they also knew mating and marking his Luna will make him more powerful.

If they haven’t been able to get him killed or even move him for the past few years, the presence of his mate will ruin all of their plans.

Her mind drifted to her mate, she wondered who the moon goddess will pair her with.

She has lived for 23 years, yet she hasn’t met her mate.

Her peers already found their mates at the age of 18 but here she is, alone and still searching.

She wondered what kind of person he would be.

Is he someone powerful?

She could feel his presence for the first time but she could not tell where it was coming from.

She had no lead.

But she was sure for the first time that her mate was close.

Smiling to herself, she tried to picture his face as she swam.

(I’ll be using Zelda from now on, please do well to correct me if I forget to use it in any episode)

We are getting close, I can feel it, Zelda announced.

Its been about 8 hours since they encountered Saraphina and their fifth day in the journey.

They sat under a shady tree, eating.

For real? August asked happily.

Zelda nodded… I think we would get there in few hours, she added sighing in relief.

They already covered the distance of two days in barely 8 hours.

It was like they were all energized after the encounter with Saraphina.

The journey seemed easier and faster and they only rested once.

No one talked about the fight they had.

Zelda already begged them to work as a team and leave their differences aside for the sake of their journey and they were all doing just that.

You should eat, I’ll feed him myself, August offered wanting to take Beiber from him but she refused.

She didn’t want anyone carrying her mate like her was a pet.

Now that she knows that he isn’t a mere pet, she rufesed to let them see him as one.

I’ll take care of him myself, she snapped possessively and August chuckled.

What’s funny?

You… August replied with a smile.

He seemed too excited and that made Zelda wonder what was going through his head.

Do you think he is as cruel as the books described him? she asked

They all looked at her then at Beiber..

I mean you can’t tell anyones personality just by staring at a cat right? she added.

I don’t think he would be cruel to his mate, Arnold replied as he stuffed the bread on his hand in his mouth.

Its been five days and he didn’t care of the bread was fresh anymore.

They were all too hungry to bother about the freshness of anything.

Does he seem cruel to you? August asked with concern.

I don’t know… I just…. I can’t tell, She responded.

How does he sound when you talk to him? he asked again.

He doesn’t say much… just a word or two… his responses are always straight… I can’t help but wonder if he has ever cracked a joke all his life… does he even smile? or laugh? she asked with uncertainty.

I’m not sure about the smiling and joke aspect, Oliver replied.

Not everyine is like you though, August replied with a low growl and Oliver glared at him.

How much have you earned from being all smiley and playful huh? Oliver snapped.

What’s with you two? Zelda asked with a glare.

The power of a woman, Arnold replied with a chuckle.

They both glared at him and he stopped smiling.

Woman? Zelda asked looking at the three of them waiting for them to gist her.

No one said a word.

August? She called with a tricky smile and he turned white in embarrassment.

Were you both…………. she stopped and looked at the both of them.

They were visibly embarrassed.

What?! She screamed laughing so hard as she realized what Arnold meant.

Its not what you think… its just….. August tried defending himself.

What do you think I think? She asked, still laughing.

d@mn! Oliver exclaimed getting up.

He was going to make a run for it but Zelda was quick to grab his leg.

Where do you think you are going? she asked shining her teeth.

She loved those kind of tales and she was going to hear what its about whether they like it or not.

You both like one woman? She asked looking directly into his eyes from the floor.

Shame and embarrassment washed through him with a slight blush.

Oh my God! Is that a blush? Zelda asked chuckling.

Its not…..

Tell me… who is she? She asked standing up as she pulled August with her.

No one wants to talk? Huh?

Arnold? she called out to Arnold who has been laughing his @$$ out.

Like he’s been waiting to be called.

He jumped into the story with excitement.

Over 100 years ago, Both August and Oliver had met this girl who they were so sure she was their mates.

The both felt that connection with her but none of them spoke about it to the other.

At that time, August was in his twenties and was eager to find his mate.

His other siblings already found theirs except for him and Oliver.

While Oliver was over hundred years old, August was barely 26.

He was a student and living with Arnold and Oliver at that time.

The girl was 23 years old, young and beautiful, she was in the same department as August

Though August met and fell for her first, When Arnold met her, he fell for her too.

The connection was there.

They were both convinced in their hearts that she was their mates.

They both confided in Arnold at that time, it was Arnold who discovered they were talking about the same person and informed his brother (Oliver) who got mad.

Oliver started doing everything to gain the girls attention and heart.

He spoilt her with gifts since he was rich pissing off August who didn’t have money at that time.

They would argue and fight over her all the time.

None of them wanted to believe that the connection they felt wasn’t real.

None of them wanted to give her up.

Oliver who has been waiting to meet his mate for years felt he was more entitled to the girl but August wasn’t having it.

It got so serious that August had to move out and went to stay with their grandma.

They became sworn enemies.

Finally, Oliver mustered the courage to ask the girl out but she turned him down.

She told him she was inlove with someone else who Oliver later found was August.

He got so mad that drove to August’s school and that results to exchange of few punches.

He didn’t stop trying but all his efforts were in vain.

She girl wasn’t interested and she started to get pissed with him.

To him, it was August fault.

When grandma found out about their fights, she called Oliver and handed him a necklace.

It was the same type of necklace she gave to all her supernatural kids, it helped them find their mates.

It turned out the girl wasn’t his mate.

August on the other hand also found out she wasn’t his mate, but because he loved here, he didn’t want to hurt her knowing that they aren’t soul mates.

He turned her down severally.

He felt it was better to let go.

Oliver found out and got mad.

He thought August was being selfish.

He shouldn’t have led her on if he knew he would hurt her.

Even when he found out August’s reason, he didn’t stop hating him.

They have been sworn enemies since then despite Oliver being a grandfather now.

Zelda couldn’t stop laughing.

She didn’t expect someone as tough as Oliver to be so petty.

I’m sure your Miss Right should be dead by now, yet you both are still fighting? She question with mockery in her eyes.

That’s because someone still thinks he is entitled to everything because he is older, August muttered with a glare.

Shut the hell up! Oliver snapped

Why should I shut up? Does it feel so bad to fail? Does it feel so bad to be told the truth? Whether you admit it or not, behind that tough face of yours lies a coward!

Thats enough, you both.

Its high time you both let go of your differences, I’m sure you both know where you are wrong but have refused to acknowledge it, Zelda spoke, this time there was seriousness in her tone.

None of them said a word.

You are right, Oliver spoke after few minutes of silence.

They all looked at him wondering who he is referring to.

Its true that I am a coward.

A Füçking coward.

I won’t deny the fact that most times I expect things to go my way, not because its right or I’m right but because I h@të to be seen as anything else but right and brave.

I’m an @$$hOle, she was right… I just like to be seen as perfect whereas i fail and make nistakes too, I know I’m not in any way like who I like people to think I am, he said and there was silence.

Now… that’s a first, Arnold joked, breaking the silence.

Shut up, Oliver snapped with a shy smile.

Hey, August called…. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have tried to eat from the same plate with my ancestor, He joked and Oliver punched his shoulder lightly.

Then they both chuckled, shook hands and began laughing.

Their fooloshness back then replayed in their heads, it got funnier as they thought about it.

They really behaved like kids.

Smiling, Zelda whispered to Beiber “I can’t wait to meet you”

Let’s get going, she said and they all picked up their bags that already got lighter since they have been eating from it for the past five days.

Grandma said there is a river around here, we should find it and take a bath, Oliver spoke.

Yeah, let’s do that, Zelda replied as they walked.

August felt his necklace vibrate and glitter.

Mate? He muttered with wide eyes touching the necklace with a sad smile.

He wondered why he wasn’t excited.

TBC

Oliver really is petty.

What do you think about Jade?

Why do you think August is suddenly not excited about meeting his mate?

Do you think Mia was right??
