She dropped her phone and buried her face into her pillow sobbing silently. She cried for hours or maybe days avoiding her parents who were on her neck to know what’s wrong with her.
She avoided anything that will remind her of Dee. Until two weeks after, she finally stepped out of her room. She felt a little lighter and the pain in her chest wasn’t as big and deep just like two weeks ago when she called it quits with Dee.
She went to the fridge and reached for a bottle of cold table water. She served herself a glass and sat down drinking it slowly.
She look so terrible. Her father walked into the living room and saw her fazing out on the couch and sighed coming close to her.
“Finally, you left your room. Happy birthday.” he patted her shoulder and squeezed lightly.
Oh. Today is even her birthday? She didn’t even recall that. She sighed and smiled at her father. “Thanks.”
“You look so ghostly to even throw a party. ” he nudged her shoulder while she smiled.
“I’m thirty now. Happy birthday to me.” she replied pointing at herself.
He nodded and clapped his hands for her. “You need a cake.”
“No, I don’t wanna a birthday Sh|t and stuff.”
“Why? What happened to my baby?” he touched her forehead while she smiled. “I’m fine. It’s just that I’m feeling a little nostalgic towards New York. I feel like I wanna go back there but I don’t want to.”
“Why?”
“Because erm…” she chuckled. “I want to start up something for myself. I feel like I’m wasting away over there. I wanna follow your path now.”
“My path? Baby, I’m not gonna force you to do anything you don’t wanna do. You don’t have to join me in the company.” he held her right palm and kissed it.
“No, I wanna work and be responsible. I er…I tried getting a job and working as a caterer but…no, I couldn’t get in. I think this business Sh|t, is for me after all. I can’t run away from it, no matter how hard I try.”
He smiled at her. “Come here.” he hugged her wrapping his arms around her tightly. She felt warm and so little in her father’s arms. She felt like she isn’t 30 but 3 years old. “Thanks dad.” she mumbled while her father kissed her hair. “I’m sorry, I haven’t been there for you all these time.”
“You’re here for me now dad.”

“Hello Dee. ”
“Yes, hello. Where are you?” He asked tossing on his bed and not yet ready to get up from his bed. But hearing De_ra’s voice, he had to get up and start preparing for work else she’s going to nag him to insanity. He thought Veronica was worse but De_ra can be crowned the NAG QUEEN if she ever contested.
“Don’t tell me you’re still in bed, Dee.” She asked and he grumbled walking into the bathroom. Speak of the devil and here she comes, nagging.
“No, I’m in the bathroom.”
“Bathroom? Like right now?! I clearly told you that we have a meeting with MDS company few minutes from now! And …” he moved away his phone from his ear grumbling. Why is she shouting so much? When did she learn to do that?
“Dee, I’m talking to you!!!”
“De_ra I’m coming. I will be there in few minutes time.” he said and hung up. He can’t deal with her incessant nagging this morning.
He washed and dressed up. He drove to the company twenty minutes later, De_ra was already waiting for him at the parking lot. He climbed down while she rushed at him. “Now you come? Huh!!”
“Are they here?”
She shook her head. “No, but they will soon be here.”
He nodded and headed to the elevator while she tagged along. “Where’s Veronica? Didn’t come today?” he asked.
She nodded and smirked. “Honeymoon bliss, you can call it.”
They both laughed. “When are you getting married to your prince charming De_ra. Or isn’t he talking about marriage?”
De_ra blushed. “Well, we are taking our time. I don’t wanna rush him or make him do anything that he won’t wanna do.”
He chuckled. The elevator chimed and opened. They walked out and headed to the conference room. “Here, ” she handed her tablet over to him while he skimmed through the content on the screen. “What’s this?”
“This is the business proposal we will be talking about today. I know you didn’t check it out before coming here. ”
He frowned. “Calling me lazy. I agree. Thanks for this. ” They walked into the room together where all his important staffs were already seated. They stood up when they saw him and sat down after he sat down. “Good morning everyone. ” he greeted and dropped the tablet on the table. They returned his greeting while De_ra sat down beside him.
“When are they coming?” he whispered to De_ra as the awkward silence in the room was starting to be suffocating.
“I just texted the secretary. They’re here.” she said and immediately, the door opened and the secretary to MDS company walked in majestically followed by an elegant woman whose heels barely made noise as she bounced in. Her hair was cut short and it bounced after her as she walked.
Dee didn’t bother to look at the woman who came in as he opened his laptop getting ready for business when he heard her voice.
“Hello Mr. Damien Danielz.” she hollered smiling and looking at him. His body reacted differently to the voice he heard, he looked up and was dumbfounded at whom he saw staring back at him full of smiles.
He was unsure of what he felt at that moment, he wasn’t angry, sad, happy or overwhelmed.
“We meet again Mr. Damien Danielz.” she said further, coming close and pulling out her hand for a handshake.
“Miss Diane Addison. It’s been a long time.” he replied ignoring her outstretched arm.
“Yes. It’s been two years already. How have you been?” she asked and he felt like she was mocking him. The sleepless night he had, the tears and pain which never left his chest suddenly resurfaced. He recalled himself crying and whining like a little puppy infront of her door two years ago. He scoffed furrowing his brows angrily at her.
“And now you show up to torment me again.” he replied.
