Chapter 23
“Kiara”He suddenly called and she turned to look at him. “Was I the reason you changed your style of dressing?”He asked.

“Was I?”Erik asked again.
Kiara looked down at her fingers and gave an awkward chuckle.
“I was a jerk for saying you dressed like an highschool student. I’m sure you think that”He said “I’m also aware I was a jerk for saying that too”
“I…”She moistened her lips “I was eventually going to change my dress style seeing that I now had a formal job even if you hadn’t told me that I dressed like an highschool student”She said “Though… It was hurtful when you said that to me…”
“I’m sorry”He said sincerely.
She looked at him,surprised.
He noticed the surprised look on her face.
“Why? You’re surprised I said sorry?”He asked
“Um,yeah”
“You don’t think I’m the kind of person who says sorry? I’m not a sadist”He said “Being a sadist isn’t among the list of things you think of me or is it?”
Kiara raised her drink to her mouth and looked away, avoiding his gaze.
That action alone told Erik all he needed to know.
“Wow,you have so many negative thoughts about me”He said, obviously displeased “I know I’m not the friendly and social type of person but being a sadist?”He scoffed.
“I’m sure you have negative thoughts about me too so we’re kind of even”She said
“How are you so sure I have negative thoughts about you?”He asked
“I’m sure you do”
“I don’t”He said
“What?”Kiara muttered, removing the straw in her mouth.
“I thought of you as a clumsy assistant when you first started working for me but that was probably because it was your first time being an assistant. That was the only negative thought I had of you”He said
“You told me I was terrible at being an assistant when you found out it was my first time”She said
“Well, you’re good at it now”He said.
A smile escaped her lips,hearing him say that about her.
“And,I was going to tell you that you should dress anyway you deem fit before this argument started. You don’t have to change the way you dress because of what I said”He said.
Kiara stared at him.
She couldn’t believe he was saying that but she appreciated it.
“Thank you”She said.
He looked away “You don’t have to thank me”He muttered.
Kiara looked at him.
She had no idea he was capable of saying such nice words to her and kind of felt bad for saying the negative thoughts she had of him.
“I think you have a really nice smile”She said and he brought his eyes back to her.
She smiled at him.
“What?”
“I think you have a really nice smile”She said “I mean it”She nodded.
“I don’t think my smile is anything compared to yours”He said “You have a beautiful smile and an innocent but really good heart. It’s rare finding people like that”He took a sip from his drink with his gaze still fixed on her.
Kiara chuckled awkwardly.
“You don’t know much about me”She said.
“I don’t”He shook his head “But I do know you love corn dogs though”He said and she giggled.
Erik smiled seeing he made her giggle.
“Have you been there before?”He asked, making a head gesture towards the ferris wheel.
“Where?”She asked and he pointed at it.
She turned and faced the direction where his hand was pointed.
“No”She answered “Not yet”
“Do you have any plans of going?”He asked
“I don’t know…Maybe”She said.
“Would you like to go?”He asked “With me?”
She looked at him and chuckled lightly
“It’s… Getting really awkward hanging out together most of the time”
“Why? Because I’m your boss?”He asked.
“Yeah”She nodded
“I’m not complaining”
“I… Didn’t mean that. I…”She sighed “We’re…Not really friends so…”
“Then let’s be”
“What?”Kiara asked ,taken aback
“What? You don’t want me to be your friend?”
“Um…”
“You can be friends with Ken and that guy from the lab but you can’t be friends with me”He said
“What…Guy from the lab?” She raised a brow
“The one who spilled coffee on you the other day”
“He’s not my friend”
“He told me he is”
“Told you?”Kiara asked, wondering what conversation transpired between Erik and Lex that led to him telling Erik that she was his friend.
“Don’t… Change the topic”
“I’m not”
“Good. So, friends?”He asked.
Kiara bit her lower lip,staring at him as he waited for her response.

“Had a tight schedule?”Nathan asked Erik as he walked in “You’re home late”He said.
“Decided to spend sometime outside before coming home”He said, going to Snowball’s cage.
He opened it and brought him out.
“Okay…”Nathan nodded “I’ll tell the maids to set the table”
“There’s no need for that. I already had dinner”
“You went out with Miss Ivy?”Nathan asked
“No,why’d you ask?”
“Because the only time you eat out is whenever you go out with Miss Ivy. You rarely eat out alone”Nathan said
“Thanks for noticing”Erik said sarcastically and faked a smile. “Has Snowball been fed?”He asked
“I’m sorry,who?”
“Snowball”He gestured at the rabbit he was holding “Has he been fed?”
“You named your pet Snowball?”Nathan asked, surprised.
“Kiara did the naming actually”
“I knew there was no way you came up with the name yourself”
Erik slowly raised his head to look at Nathan, feeling offended.
“Snowball, that’s a really cute name”
“I didn’t ask”Erik frowned.
Daphne kept checking the time on her phone repeatedly, waiting for lunchtime when Natasha would leave her office so she could place the camera in her office.
She had succeeded in putting the tracker at the rear end of Natasha’s car.
A few minutes past one pm and Natasha finally came out of her office.
Daphne smiled as she watched Natasha leave the supermarket.
She proceeded to fix the camera in Natasha’s office.
She got to Natasha’s office and made to open the door but it appeared to be locked.
“Darn it”She muttered under her breath and held the door handle tighter, trying to push the door with force hoping she could get it to open that way.
“What are you doing?” She suddenly heard behind her while she was still struggling with the door.
She turned and her eyes widened when she saw Natasha behind her.
