Chapter 28
“I don’t want to take back my father’s wealth anymore”Kiara said.

Natasha chuckled.
“Should I take that as a joke or…”She looked at Kiara and she could tell she was being serious by the look on her face. “Why the sudden change of mind?”She asked.
“I…”Kiara moistened her lips “I don’t want to hurt him”
“Erik?”
“He’s already lost so much and…”
“Lost so much? Did he by any chance tell you about his life?”
Kiara kept mute and Natasha took that as a yes.
She smiled.
“Telling you about his life only means he’s beginning to trust you and you’re choosing to give up when we’re this close to achieving our aim?” She asked “Are you by any chance falling in love with him or something?”
Kiara looked up at Natasha.
“I warned you not to get attached to him or develop a soft spot for him”
“I…I just feel like I’ll be doing something really terrible to him by making him pay for what his dad did knowing how much pain he’s gone through already”
Natasha chuckled.
“You could have just gone straight to the point and call me a terrible person instead. I understand the message you’re trying to pass to me”She said.
“No, don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t trying to refer to you as a terrible person,I was just…”
“Taking back your father’s wealth was a selfish decision. I shouldn’t have made it. I understand”
“Natasha…”
“Forgive me for wanting to do something nice to you like a mother would do for her daughter”
“What?”Kiara muttered.
Did Natasha just refer to them both as mother and daughter?
“You were the reason I made this decision Kiara. I just wanted to do something nice for you and…”Natasha sighed looking down as tears welled up her eyes “I had no idea I was being a terrible mother”
Kiara sighed, feeling bad already as she saw Natasha’s teary eyes.
“I wasn’t trying to make you feel terrible,I was just…”
“I also thought helping you get your father’s wealth back would make him proud where he is and…Oh my,I didn’t realize I’ve been a terrible and selfish mother all this while” She said.
“Natasha, I’m sorry I’m making you feel this way but I just don’t want to hurt him”
“I also don’t want to hurt him,I care about other people’s feelings too or…”Natasha looked at Kiara with her teary eyes “You think I don’t care about people’s feelings?”
“Of course you do”
“Then why would you think I’m deliberately trying to hurt him. It’s just that this is the only way we can get back your father’s wealth and I don’t want to let this opportunity slip away. We’re so close to achieving this Kiara, giving up shouldn’t be something you should consider”
Kiara sighed.
“We’ve come this far and I trusted and believed in you that you would get this done. Don’t make me lose my trust in you Kiara,make me proud instead”Natasha said “Like a daughter would to her mother”
Kiara inhaled.
She nodded and Natasha smiled.
“Welcome to my humble abode”Ken said to Emily as he walked in after opening the door.
They were just returning from an outing and decided to have dinner together at his place.
He turned the lights on.
Emily smiled, looking around the living room as she entered.
“Nice”She nodded.
Ken went to drop his keys on the table.
“So,what would you like me to make for dinner?” He asked.
“Um,I don’t know,you should choose”She said
“And, we’re doing the cooking together”She added.
He smiled.
“Wow,you still have these photos” She said in surprise when she sighted a shelf beside the window with photos on it.
Most of the photos were the ones Ken and her took together during their stay in college.
She moved closer to it and smiled as she picked one up, gazing at it.
Ken walked to her with a smile and stood behind her.
“Of all the photos we took back then, this still remains my favorite”She smiled, stroking the photo she was holding with a thumb.
“Really?”She heard Ken’s voice behind her and turned to look at him only to meet his face right in front of hers. Their faces were only a few inches away from each other.
She released a chuckle which soon died down and was replaced by silence afterwards. She swallowed as she gazed at him, beginning from his honey brown eyes down to his appealing lips.
Without a second thought,she pressed her lips on his,kissing him.
She couldn’t hide her feelings anymore – She didn’t want to keep hiding her feelings. She loved him and this was something she had always yearned
Though stunned at first,Ken responded to the kiss,kissing her as passionately as he felt about her – How he’s always felt about her.
Seeing how Ken responded to the kiss, Emily dropped the photo in her hand back on the shelf while still kissing him and held his face,wanting to deepen the kiss but Ken suddenly broke it, holding her hands which were still on his face. He looked at her, surprised and confused at the same time.
“Emily”He said,his voice soft and quiet.
“I love you Ken”She spilled “I always have,even before you confessed your feelings. I ask myself everyday why I turned you down that day despite knowing what I felt for you wasn’t just a friendship thing. I don’t know,maybe it was because we were best friends and I found it hard to accept how I felt as a result of that and…”She rushed her words.
“Whoa,take it easy”Ken chuckled bringing his hands to her shoulder.
She exhaled, releasing an awkward chuckle.
“I really love you Ken and I’m sorry I said no to you that day. It just felt hard for me to embrace the feelings I had for you being best friends and all,
I…”
“Hey, it’s okay,I totally get you”He smiled at her reassuringly.
“I just… I want you to know that I’ve embraced my feelings and…”
“I love you too”He said and smiled before bringing his lips back to hers.
Emily closed her eyes,holding the sides of his shirt as she melted into his ardent kiss.
Ken’s hands went up to her face,the tips of his fingers making contact with her silky hair.
Their tongues soon found their way into each other’s mouths, savoring their mouth tastes as emotions blazed through them – ones that have been suppressed for far too long.

“Good morning”Ken greeted Kiara with a smile as she arrived at the office.
“Good morning” She smiled also, sitting at her desk.
She arched a brow,a grin appearing on her face as she noticed Ken’s facial expression and literally the atmosphere around him.
“What’s with you? You’re looking extraordinarily happy today”She said.
“Oh,do I? I guess so”He smiled.
“Well,are you gonna tell me the reason maybe?” She asked, smiling.
“Mr Erik is here already”Ken said, standing up.
Kiara stood also when she saw Erik.
“Good morning sir”They both greeted.
He responded before entering his office.
Kiara followed him.
She smiled seeing he looked much better than he did almost two days ago.
She read out his schedule to him and turned off the tab after she was done.
“Ken and I were able to reschedule the lunch meeting you were supposed to have with the shareholders last week”She said.
“They agreed to the rescheduling?”
“Uh…Some of them were pissed you didn’t show up and disagreed with the rescheduling but after telling them about how your meeting went with the investor,they agreed” She smiled.
“Thank you” He said
She nodded.
“By the way…”A worried look appeared on her face “Are you feeling better?” She asked. His appearance may seem like that of someone who was okay but she wanted to know if he really was.
He nodded. “I am. Thanks to you. And Nathan also”He said “I didn’t push him away like I would have normally done after telling him what happened between me and Ivy and listened to what he had to say about it instead and he’s surprisingly really good at pep talks” He said.
She chuckled.
“Of course,you should listen to him more” She said.
“I will” He nodded with a smile. “You can return to your desk”
She nodded and smiled but her smile disappeared as soon as she turned. She released a sigh as she remembered her conversation with Natasha the night she told her she wanted to quit.
Kiara stepped out of the elevator and met with Lex as she came out. He was about to get into the elevator.
“Hey”He smiled at her.
She sighed.
“I’d ask if we could have lunch together but I’m afraid you’d turn me down”He said.
Kiara looked at him.
“Actually,no”She said
“What?”
“I’m not going to turn you down this time around”She said “You wanted us to talk right? Let’s talk”She said again.
