Chapter 33
“There’s something you need to see”Daphne said, rubbing her palms together.

“What?”Kiara asked slowly as she looked at Daphne.
Daphne brought out her phone and tapped the screen before stretching it out to Kiara.
Kiara looked at Daphne as she slowly collected it. Her eyes fell on the phone’s screen and her body shook when she saw the picture on it.
Earlier,Daphne had used her phone to take a picture of the part where Thomas kissed Natasha.
Kiara raised her head to look at Daphne
“Wh… What’s this?”She stuttered, refusing to comprehend what the picture contained.
Daphne sighed. “Kiara, don’t pretend like you don’t understand what you’re seeing” She glanced at Emily.
“Daphne,I know you don’t like Natasha but this is low,even for you”Kiara said,anger and hurt grew inside of her.
“You think I photoshopped it or something?” Daphne scoffed. “What would it take for you to open your eyes and see that Natasha is a liar?!”
“A liar?”Kiara asked in disbelief.
Emily sighed seeing the tension between the two.
“Kiara, it’s the truth”She said and Kiara looked at her.
“What truth?”Kiara demanded “Natasha is my stepmom and the man in the picture,is her brother. There’s no way this is true”She said, showing Emily the picture. “And, I’m sorry to say this but you know nothing about my stepmom or her brother so you can’t tell if this is true or not”
“No,I don’t. But do you seriously think Daphne is lying to you? She’s your best friend and she cares about you a lot so why would she lie to you?”
“She’d do anything to make me feel the same way she feels about Natasha”Kiara said, glaring at Daphne.
Daphne groaned frustratingly.
“That’s because it’s the way you’re supposed to feel about her. She’s a liar. And,that pic,one look and you can tell it’s not photoshopped. You’re just refusing to see the truth”
“There’s no truth in this,okay?”Kiara said angrily and later sighed, feeling hurt “I thought you promised to drop this issue”She said to Daphne
“You promised me you’d stop making Natasha look like a terrible person”
“I did but after finding out you changed your major because of her,I couldn’t sit back and watch you keep making sacrifices for her knowing well that she doesn’t deserve it”Daphne said.”You know what? You should watch the video instead. After that,you can conclude if it’s a lie or not”
“What video?”
Daphne went to carry her laptop and showed the screen to Kiara after clicking on play. The footage began playing.
“Why and how do you have a video of Natasha’s office?” Kiara asked raising her head to look at Daphne.
“I planted a camera in her office”Daphne said.
Kiara scoffed in disbelief “You’ve been spying on Natasha”
“I had to. I needed to get you a proof that she isn’t the person she claims to be”Daphne explained.
Kiara scoffed and faced Emily “You let her drag you into this?”
Emily sighed.
“Would you please just watch the video?”Daphne pleaded.
Kiara glared at Daphne. She wanted to ignore her and just leave the apartment but the curiosity in her made her bring her eyes back to the screen.
She glanced at Daphne after she watched the kissing part.The excuses she tried to come up with that the part she just watched was a hoax failed her. She couldn’t deny that it was the truth. She kept mute and also kept watching, listening to their conversation. Her anger slowly faded into shock and disbelief.
Daphne paused the footage after their conversation ended and went to drop her laptop on her bed.
Emily looked at Kiara.
“You’re still going to deny that it’s the truth?” Daphne asked.
Kiara swallowed a lump that formed in her throat.
“Natasha’s been lying to you all this while. She’s been having an affair with Thomas for as long as I can tell. I found out almost a year ago but couldn’t bring myself to tell you knowing how much you loved her and I also knew you wouldn’t believe me even if I had told you”Daphne said.
Kiara stood still on that spot as Natasha’s and Thomas’s conversation replayed in her head.
“Using me?”She muttered,still shocked. She was yet to fully understand what Natasha and Thomas talked about but it was evident that Natasha had been lying to her all this while. Secretly having an affair with Thomas? That act alone brew a lot of questions and anger in her. And the thought that Natasha made her believe she was the honest and loving person she saw her to be made her remember all the things she’s done,the sacrifices she’s made for her because of the immense love she had for her as a result of seeing her that way.
“Kiara”Daphne called worriedly, seeing the look on Kiara’s face and how she stood, not moving.
A tear escaped the corner of Kiara’s eyes. A scoff followed but it was directed at herself.
“Kiara” Emily stood, feeling worried also.She made to speak again but stopped when Kiara suddenly turned, leaving the room with Daphne’s phone.
“Where are you going?”Daphne asked, going after her. Emily followed.
Kiara spun around to face Daphne. Her eyes had become red with a mixture of hurt and anger.
“I’m going to meet her”
Daphne’s eyes widened.
“No,not in that state”She said and walked closer to Kiara.”Look,I get that you’re feeling angry and betrayed and you want to confront Natasha but I don’t think that’s the best decision right now. I mean, you’re eventually going to confront her but not now”
“Daphne,I don’t think I’m going to wait before going to confront her after getting to know all of these. The secrets she kept from me…”
“Kiara”
“I’m going Daphne”Kiara said before finally leaving the apartment.
Daphne sighed and turned to look at Emily.
“You’re just going to let her leave alone in that state?” Emily asked still concerned.
Daphne bit her lower lip.
“Sweetheart”Natasha smiled when Kiara came in but her smile disappeared when she saw the look on her face. She stood “Is everything okay? What’s wrong?”
Kiara raised Daphne’s phone to Natasha’s face, showing her the picture.
Natasha’s eyes widened in shock.
“If you’re thinking of lying to cover it up, don’t. I know it’s the truth already and I won’t let you make me feel more stupid than I already feel”Kiara said,her tone expressing her anger and hurt. “I thought he was your brother”
“He is”Natasha lied. She knew she couldn’t deny that the picture was real but knew she had to come up with reasons that Kiara would find acceptable for being that way with Thomas in the picture.
Kiara scoffed “You’re having an affair with your brother?”She said “Does that even make sense?”
“You’re already labelling me as guilty without even hearing my explanation”Natasha said.
“Explanation?”Kiara asked in disbelief
“Yes. Thomas isn’t my brother. We’ve been close friends for years and I see him as my brother and also introduce him that way to people”
“The same way you introduced him to me and dad?”
“Kiara”
“So,when did the affair start? Before or after you met my dad?”
“Kiara,I…”
“You really feel at ease lying to me”Kiara said hurtfully.
“Kiara, I’m really sorry you had to find out about me and Thomas this way but there’s not a bit of lie in what I just explained, believe me…”
“Yeah,I stopped doing that minutes ago”Kiara said “I’ve always trusted you and believed everything you told me but everything you’ve ever told me was a lie. Getting back my father’s wealth was all a lie isn’t it?”
Natasha’s shock doubled and her facial expression refused to hide it.
“You’ve been using me as a tool to get Mr Erik’s wealth”She said. Tears were threatening to roll down her face “Why would you even want his wealth?”
Natasha successfully hid her shock.
“Yeah, why would I want his money? Someone is obviously filling your head with false information”
Kiara scoffed, remembering the footage.
“You still keep lying. You must really enjoy doing that. I’ve always done things to please you but all you’ve ever done is lie to me. You must have been so happy when I believed that story about my dad. Using the love that I have for you to get me into doing what you wanted,manipulating me.It must have been really fun for you. After all,I was the dumb girl who would do anything to please her stepmom” Her tears were beginning to roll down her face. “Did you ever even love me or it was also a pretence?” She asked
Natasha sighed but inside of her,anger brew. The anger wasn’t for Kiara but for whoever revealed all of these things to her. Someone had to have told her. She was sure Kiara couldn’t have found out by herself.
Kiara bit her lip, trying to stop her tears.
“I may not know the reason why you want Mr Erik’s wealth but I am done helping you. I am done being your puppet”
“Kiara…”
“Don’t say my name”Kiara looked away as her tears kept coming nonstop. She sniffed and faced Natasha again “I feel so stupid”She said lastly before leaving the house.
She met Daphne standing a few feet away from the house after she came out. It looked like she had been waiting.
Daphne walked to her.
“Hey”She muttered.
Kiara wrapped her arms around her, hugging her tightly as she let her tears flow freely.
