Chapter 40
“Wh…what am I doing here?”Kiara asked fearfully. Her eyes darted to the figure beside
Natasha – Thomas “Why’d you bring me here?”She muttered. The last thing she remembered was seeing Thomas pull out a syringe he had pierced in her arm after he met her on the sidewalk. She did a memory jog. She was going to flag down a taxi before Thomas suddenly showed up in front of her. The reason behind her wanting to flag down a taxi made her heart beat rapidly.
“Daphne”She said “Please, I have to go see her”She begged.
“Oh,honey. There’s no need for that. She’s not going to make it. The accident…” Natasha trailed a finger up the arm of the chair Kiara was tied to “It was very fatal you see”
Kiara stared at her. How did she know about Daphne’s accident?
“How did you know about the accident?”She voiced her question out.
“How would I not be aware of something I did?”Natasha asked rhetorically with a smug smile on her face.
Kiara’s eyes widened in both horror and shock
“Why would you do that to her?”She muttered with tears welling up her eyes as she imagined the condition Daphne was in
Natasha shrugged.
“Why are you doing this? Abducting me and doing that to Daphne,why?”
“Enough with the questions”Thomas groaned, feeling upset already.
“Are you doing this because I’m no longer helping you with your plan of getting Mr Erik’s money?” Kiara asked with eyes that were beginning to turn fiery. That was the only visible reason why Natasha could be doing all of this.
“I’m glad you know my reason but one thing you should also know is that you’ll still be helping me get his money”Natasha said.
“What?”Kiara muttered and went mute for a while as she tried to figure out what Natasha meant by that sentence. After a few seconds of thinking,it finally dawned on her. “You abducted me so you could demand for his money in exchange for my release”
“I like the fact that we’re understanding each other”Natasha smiled.
“You’d do anything to get what you want”Kiara shook her head in disbelief.
“Anyone would do anything to get what they want”Natasha said.
“Not in this way”Kiara shook her head. “And you’re delusional if you think he’s going to go through such lengths for me”
“I guess we’ll have to find out”Thomas said and Natasha smiled, glancing at him.
Kiara scoffed as she stared at Natasha. This isn’t the Natasha she knew. She had no idea Natasha could be capable of doing such things and for a petty reason.
“How and when did you become like this?”She asked as she stared at Natasha.
Natasha moved closer to her. “I have always been like this”
“Even before you met my dad?”Kiara’s unwavering voice was filled with contempt as she stared fiery eyed at Natasha.
“Way long before that”
Kiara shook her head in disbelief and released a scoff when the truth dawned on her. “You didn’t get married to my dad because you loved him. You got married to him because of his money”
“Yeah,too bad he willed everything he owned to you”Thomas muttered.
“What?”Kiara faced him
“You think she stayed with you after your father’s death because she wanted to?”Thomas scoffed.
“What will are you talking about?”Kiara asked, confused.
“Sorry to ruin the surprise. You’re actually supposed to know about it when you turn twenty four and that’s…Three years from now. Our bad” Natasha chuckled.
“Three years?”Kiara asked and scoffed “You don’t even know my real age”
“What are you talking about?”Natasha inquired.
“If you knew my real age,you would know that I’ll be turning twenty four three months from now and not three years”Kiara said. She found herself feeling hurt that Natasha didn’t know her real age despite the many years they spent together.
Natasha stood transfixed at her spot when she heard Kiara’s sentence. She managed to hide her shock but Thomas could tell she was shocked. He felt the same.
“Why’d you even stay with me after you knew my dad willed all he had to me?”Kiara asked”You wanted to con me of it?”She asked sarcastically.
Natasha felt a bit angry at herself for not knowing Kiara’s real age but soon shook it off. She would be getting Erik’s money anyways.
“Okay, enough with the chitchat. Let’s get this over with”She said with a serious look on her face.
Emily came out to meet Erik who was still waiting outside for Kiara.
She was worried about Kiara but looking at Erik,she could tell he felt way more than that
“Mr Erik” She called and he looked at her.
“It’s almost one am and she’s not here yet”He said.
“What if she’s not here because something happened to her while she was on her way?” He muttered with fear in his voice.
“An accident?”
“I don’t know, I’m just…”He sighed “I can’t keep waiting here for her to show up. I’m gonna go to the cops”He said and began walking to his car.
Emily sighed as she watched him.
Erik’s phone rang after taking a few steps. He brought it out to check who the caller was as he continued his walk to his car. It was an unknown number. He stared at it, deciding whether to pick it or not.
He brought his phone to his ear after finally deciding to pick the call.
“Hello,Erik Zander”Came an ominous and unfamiliar voice. He was forced to stop in his attempt of opening his car.
Emily stared at him, wondering why he stopped.
“There’s someone here who would like to speak to you”The voice said again to Erik.

Natasha turned to look at Kiara who kept her lips pressed together refusing to make a sound so Erik wouldn’t hear her over the phone.
Natasha smirked at her before turning to look at Thomas, giving him a knowing smile.
Thomas moved closer to Kiara at once and held her hair tightly, pulling it before landing a heavy slap across her face.
Kiara folded her lips, stopping her yelp from coming out despite how painful the slap felt.
Thomas scoffed before bringing out a taser from his pocket.
Kiara’s eyes widened as he brought it to her neck.
Despite all her efforts on making no sound,the moment the taser touched her neck and the trigger was pulled,her screams filled the whole room as jolts of electricity coursed through her muscles, releasing an excruciating pain inside of her.
Natasha smiled satisfactorily.

Erik felt his heart shatter into many bits as he heard the screams coming from the other end of the phone. He recognized Kiara’s voice anywhere and anytime.
“Kiara”He muttered.
“You recognize her voice. That’s good”The voice said “Cooperate with me and I promise to send her to you in one piece”
Anger brew inside of him as her screams kept echoing in his head.
He gritted his teeth “What do you want me to do?”He asked.
“I’m going to send you a message that contains the details of a bank account and I want you to send all the money you have into that account.”
Erik’s eyes widened.
“Just so you know,I know your net worth and I’d transfer everything I have in my account if I were you. I’m giving you a maximum of six hours to make your choice. You know what’s at stake if you make the wrong choice”The voice threatened “Also,I wouldn’t call the cops if I were you. You know the consequence if you do”
The call was disconnected afterwards and Erik slowly brought down his phone and stood transfixed in his spot as the phone call replayed in his head.
He shut his eyes painfully when he remembered Kiara’s screams.
“Mr Erik, what’s wrong?”He opened his eyes to see Emily in front of him.
“Mr Erik”Emily called again.
“Kiara”He muttered “She’s been kidnapped”
