CHAPTER 62

JAMES POV

The morning sunlight gently streamed through
the curtains, casting a soft glow across the
room. As I stirred from my slumber, my mind
slowly shook off the remnants of sleep, and the
reality of the day ahead settled upon me. With a
deep breath, I swung my legs over the edge of
the bed and sat up, the weight of the world
resting on my shoulders.

I rubbed my eyes, trying to shake off the
remnants of fatigue that clung to me. I rose
from the bed, my feet sinking into the plush
carpet beneath. Stretching my arms above my
head, I allowed the tension to melt away, if only
momentarily. The air felt crisp, invigorating, and
I knew that I needed to face the day head-on. I
decided to visit Sarah to ask her if she had any
information on Amy’s whereabouts. I could
have called her but I feel when she sees how
serious I am and how desperate I am, she would
tell me where Amy is, so far that reason I
decided against calling.

I shuffled towards the wardrobe, my steps
sluggish but determined. Opening its doors, I
surveyed the array of clothing that lay before
me—a sea of choices that represented the
facade I would wear today. As I contemplated
my options, my mind drifted back to the
conversations, the arguments, and the painful
revelations that had led me to this point.

I reached for a simple white shirt, its fabric soft
to the touch. As I slipped it over my shoulders
and buttoned it up, I couldn’t help but think of
the many times Amy had commented on how
the color suited me. A pang of longing tugged at
my heart, reminding me of what I had lost.

Next, I selected a pair of dark jeans, worn but
comfortable. They were a reminder of simpler
times, when life seemed less complicated and
love felt within reach. With a quick tug, I pulled
them up and fastened the button, the fabric
settling comfortably against my skin.

I glanced at myself in the mirror, my reflection a
mix of weariness and determination. I ran a
hand through my hair, attempting to tame the
unruly strands that refused to be tamed. It was
a small act, but in that moment, I hoped it
symbolized my resolve to face the challenges
that lay ahead.

Stepping into a pair of worn leather boots, I felt
a sense of grounding—a connection to the
earth beneath my feet. As I tied the laces, I
couldn’t help but think of the long journey I had
embarked upon, both physically and
emotionally.

Finally dressed, I took one last look at myself in
the mirror. The reflection staring back at me
was a man marked by his mistakes, but also a
man determined to make amends. The road
ahead was uncertain, fraught with challenges
and the possibility of further heartache, but I
couldn’t let that deter me.

The morning air greeted me, cool and
refreshing, as if whispering words of
encouragement. And with each step I took, I felt
a glimmer of hope, a flicker of possibility that
perhaps, just perhaps, I could find a way to
make things right.

After a short walk, I found myself standing
outside Sarah’s door, hesitating for a moment. I
reached for the doorbell, its chime echoing
through the air. Moments later, the door swung
open, revealing Sarah with a surprising look.
“James! What a surprise. I wasn’t expecting to
see you here,” Sarah exclaimed, ushering me
inside.
“I needed to come back, Sarah. There’s
something I need to know,” I replied, my voice
tinged with urgency.
“Come in. Come in.” She said as I entered,
shutting the door beside her.
“I didn’t know you were in town.” She said as I
sat on the sofa.
The walls of the living room is painted in a
soothing shade of cream. Soft sunlight
streamed through the windows, casting a gentle
glow over the comfortable furniture arranged in
a conversational manner. A large bookshelf
stood against one wall, filled with an eclectic
collection of novels, hinting at Sarah’s love for
reading.
“Yeah. I got here like a week or so. I’m sorry I
came without warning or calling. I wanted to
see you in person.”
She frowned, concern etched on her face. “What
is it, James? What’s happened?”
Taking a deep breath, I met her gaze and asked
the question that weighed heavily on my heart.
“Do you know where Amy is?”
“James. You can’t keep doing this you know.”
She said.
“I know I know. Trust me. I’m ready for
anything. I’m ready to be all in with Amy.” I told
her.
“James, Amy is still engaged to Jayden.”
“Wait. Amy did not break off her engagement
with Jayden?” I asked.

Sarah’s expression softened, and she let out a
sigh. “No, James. I’m sorry, but Amy and Jayden
are still together. In fact, their wedding plans are
well underway.”

The words hit me like a sledgehammer,
crushing the sliver of hope I had held onto.
Anger and frustration surged within me,
threatening to overflow. How could she still be
with Jayden after everything we had been
through? It felt like a betrayal, a slap in the face.

“Why? How could she do this?” I muttered, my
voice laced with bitterness.

Sarah’s eyes filled with sympathy as she
reached out to touch my arm. “James, I know
this must be difficult for you, but you have to
understand that people’s feelings change,
circvmstances change. Perhaps Amy found a
connection with Jayden that she couldn’t deny.”

Her words felt like a knife twisting in my gut, but
I knew she was right. I had been away for
months, lost in my own turmoil, unable to be
there for Amy. I had pushed her away, and now I
was facing the consequences of my actions.

Determined not to let anger consume me
entirely, I took a deep breath, forcing myself to
find some semblance of calm. “Thank you for
telling me, Sarah. I appreciate your honesty.”

She nodded, her eyes filled with empathy. “I
know this isn’t easy for you, James. But
perhaps it’s time to accept the reality of the
situation and find a way to move forward.”

Move forward. The words echoed in my mind,
and I knew I had a choice to make. I could
wallow in bitterness and resentment or move on
but I don’t know how to do the latter.
“Sarah…I can not forget about Amy. We were
friends even before we began dating. She is part
of my life and I can’t let her go.” I told her, with
tears flowing down my face.
“I understand James, but you just have to try,
really.” She said.
“I can’t Sarah. I can’t.”
She sighed. “You know what? I’m going to give
you Amy’s address. She’s going to kill me but I
won’t sleep so well this might knowing that I
could have helped but I didn’t.”
“Thank you Sarah. I really appreciate and I
promise to do better.” I told her.
“Tell that to Amy. I just hope I am not making a
mistake.” She said as she got up to collect a
pen and a paper from the bookshelf.
She quickly jotted down Amy’s address and
handed it over to me.
“Thank you Sarah. I won’t let you down. I
promise.”
I left Sarah’s house and immediately ordered an
Uber. I showed him the address and I quickly
entered. We arrived at the location in less than
thirty minutes and I quickly got out and paid
him.

As I walked down the quiet suburban street, my
eyes scanned the row of houses that stood in
neat symmetry. The houses were quaint, with
brick facades and neatly trimmed gardens,
blending seamlessly into the picturesque
English neighborhood. Sarah’s house, an
average abode, nestled among the others,
waiting to welcome me within its walls.

Approaching the front gate, I noticed the ivy
climbing up the side of the house, adding a
touch of greenery to the brick exterior. The front
yard was small but well-maintained, with
colorful flowers blooming in various beds, their
vibrant has catching my attention. A sense of
warmth emanated from the house, inviting me
to step closer.

I knocked briskly on the door and Amy opened. I
could not describe the emotion on her face. It
was one of confused mixed with surprise and
anger and at the same time sympathy.

“James?” she uttered, her voice trembling with a
mix of shock and confusion.

I couldn’t help but notice the slight hesitation in
her tone, as if she wasn’t entirely pleased to see
me. Nevertheless, I mustered a smile,
attempting to mask the storm of emotions
swirling within me. “Amy, it’s been a while. Can
we talk?”

She hesitated for a moment, her gaze shifting
between me and the world beyond the doorstep.
“I… I guess so,” she replied cautiously, stepping
back to allow me enter…..
