CHAPTER THIRTY ONE: CHRISTINE APPEARANCE 1
Monica Avert her gaze ” that’s not what I mean ” trying my best not to look at him, I stare down at my fingers, watch how they tremble, to think I will feel this way at the thought of losing George.
” What do you mean?” His voice startled me, it was obvious he is angry ” are you ashamed of me?”
” I told you ” looking back at him, I frown ” is nothing like that ” he look so distant, he run his hands through his hair while I breath in gently, it’s been a month, I know he asked me to marry him but meeting my dad, it’s too soon ” don’t you think we are rushing things?” I stand to my feet, my gaze not averting from his ” it has just been a month, people will think am pregnant or something” trying to bring something to laugh about, he didn’t even smile which let’s me know that he doesn’t find it one bit funny.
” Monica ”
” It’s not right, meeting my father now will not solve things”
” Solve things?” George chuckle ” I see where all these is heading, you are from a rich family….of course you’re ashamed of me, cause am just Arthur secretary ”
” George!!!”
” Or what is it? You just wanted to have fun with me? Have sëx and go back to Angelo?” I had no idea when I hit him across the face with my hand ” I…” He lift his hand.
” You think I didn’t see you right?” He walk close ” last week, even when I told you to stay away from him, you still meet him…. running into his arms the moment he call you ”
” He just wanted to talk”
” Talk?”
” Yes, and for your information I told him I was officially engage to you, telling him that was the last day I will meet him ” he suddenly look speechless, swallow and looking away for a brief second ” I said my father is a nut case, he won’t permit my marriage not unless…”
” Unless what?” He furrow his brows ” unless am from a rich family?” Looking at him, I notice how sad those eyes were ” I see, that’s what you are afraid of ”
” I..”
” If he doesn’t permit it, I will just blackmail him ”
” George”
” Am not losing you because of such trivial issues, you might not know it ” he sit back on the couch and pick up his glass of wine ” am wealthy ” after that, he didn’t look my way, not even once but things have been bothering me, why am I getting married to a man that have never once express his feelings for me, he has never once even said he likes me.
Just sëx, romance, dates and nothing else….yes I do know that from someone else perspective it will mean he love me but I will love to hear it from him, that shouldn’t be difficult right?
” George?” He look at me and I tried, tried to ask him how he feels about me but I just can’t bring myself to say the actual world ” is they something you want to say to me?”
” What do you mean?” He furrow his brows and turn to my direction fully ” did I do something wrong?”
” Oh no, it’s just …….” The doorbell interrupt me from finishing my sentence ” are you expecting someone?” He shake his head and I shrug ” I will get it ” opening the door, I stare at a woman with blue eyes and dark color eyes.
” Who are you?” She look at me, malice in her tone ” isn’t this George place?” Before I could reply, she push me aside and storm in, clearly upset, but why? This also reminds me that I don’t know anything about George, not his family, absolutely nothing.
A loud sound grab my attention, I turn around and notice that he is standing up and the lady must have slapped him ” how could you!!!”she yell but George did nothing, just stare at her ” you left Russian, came here and did what? Break things off ”
” Alexandria” George frown ” don’t you think slapping me is a bit too much?” He didn’t hesitate to hit her back and I gasp at the sight of it ” what do you think, you will get free because you’re woman? ” He chuckle ” sorry to say but am a strong supporter of gender equality”
” How could you?” She yell ” am your wife!!!” I stand still and watch them, her last words ring in my ears, George eyes immediately move to meet mine, his wife? He is married?
” Excuse me ” running out of the building, I look back and just like expected, he didn’t even follow me… Looking everywhere I stare at the street light, the moving cars, people walking, I just couldn’t think straight, everything seem to be moving too fast.
Trying to catch my breath, I rob my chest, the feeling the nausea hit me, turning left, I quickly move to a dark corner and throw up, emptying my stomach, tears drop from my tears ” how could he?” I gasp ” how could he?” I repeat the words, feeling the world hit me hard.
I never thought I loved him to this extent
” Monica?” I look up and stare at George, he look calm ” are you okay?”
” Is it true?” I clench my hands ” is it true?”
” Monica I…”
” I don’t care ” the words kept leaving my mouth ” I really don’t care ” holding his hand I look at him ” just choose me ” and then it hit me, love can make one do stupid things ” please ”
Arthur look at her, how happy she seem, her eyes glitter with delight as she stare at the different fishes ” you seem to like it here”
She nod her head ” it’s the only place my mother ever took me ” her smile widen ” reminds me of that moment ”
” Lacey ”
” But it’s different” she turn around and look at me, holding my hand ” am here with you today ” those words brought smiles to my face, the day was spent beautifully, from the aquarium we went to amusement park, ride different things and to say the truth, I thought I almost died once
” That was hilarious” lacey mumble as we step into the museum, why isn’t she tired after everything, it late now ” are you tired?”
I shake my head ” am just great ” no longer having hallucinations is something to be happy about ” tell me something lacey ” we stop walking at the sight of a dragon bone ” is something on your mind? Is that why you are trying your best to forget it?”
” What do you mean ” she clear her throat, trying her best not to look at me
” Tell me, something must be troubling you?” I step close, hold her hand and turn her around” is it your father, Edwin?” She shake her head ” who is it?”
” Christine” lacey look at me ” are you sure she isn’t alive?”
” What do you mean?” I frown ” I watch her fall into that water ”
” I just find everything strange” lacey shake her head ” forget about it, am just overthinking things ”
” Lacey ” calling out her name, I realized how hard she is trying to drop the topic, her eyes pleading ” okay, I will let it go ”
” Thank you ”
I wish days will continue like these, no problems, just us, going on dates and enjoying life…..I smile at the thought of that, that’s really what I need ” lacey ” I try to catch up with her, my shoulder mistakenly brush with someone else, her bag fell and I bend to pick it up ” he….” I stop talking when our gaze meet each other, the bag fell from my hand and I stare at her, shocked and surprised ” Christine?”
She pick up the bag ” Do I know you?” Her brows furrow ” do you know me?”
” Arthur?” Lacey move closer and look at me ” who is she?” I couldn’t speak, everything seem surprising…I was sure she fell, I saw her try to swim but couldn’t, could it just be a look alike, if lacey can see her too…then it’s no hallucination.
” You’re Arthur?” She look at me ” that means you are the man that keep appearing in my dreams” she move closer and hold my hand ” that means you can tell me who I am?”
” What are you doing?” I frown
” I have memory loss” she look up at me, her eyes seem sincere ” I have been looking everywhere for you, I kept dreaming about you…..were you perhaps, my lover?” Looking at her, i can’t tell if she is lying or saying the truth.
But her scent, it like before.
