Chapter Seven
During the weekend, Baek-Hyun and his parents arrived at Ha-Jun’s parents’ house, the building was well furniture with an amazing and sophisticated interior design. They were welcomed warmly as they were directed to the dining table that was filled with mouth-watering food and fruit.
“Thank you for having us here”. I-jun said smiling.
” is our pleasure, we are family now”Do-Yun 도윤 replied with a warm smile
(In Korean this name means Permitted path).
“This feels like a real home, “Dong-Geun said and they laughed except Baek-Hyun who felt suffocated in their midst. soon they all started eating and chatting.
” You can say that again” Mr.Dae-jung laughed at Dong-Geun’s jokes. Ha-jun noticed Baek-Hyun wasn’t flowing with the conversation.
“Are you okay?” she asked and everyone raised their faces to them.
“um, yeah”. Baek-Hyun replied.
” You look pale, you don’t like the food?” Ha-jun asked.
“You don’t like the food?” Do-Yun asked hastily.
“No, no, not that, the food tastes amazing, I love it”. he said and they smiled.
” Ok, eat, you don’t need to be shy, we are family now”. Dong-Geun said.
“Sure”. he takes a scoop of his meal and they smile at him.
A few minutes later, Baek-Hyun and Ha-jun were strolling around the compound while their parents were inside chatting.
” Am glad you came”. Ha-jun said.
“Is nothing”. he replied, they found a shaded place and sat down.
” I heard you are managing your dad’s company, so, how is it going?”
“Well, is going great with a lot of work to do”.
” Of course is like that, my brother also felt that way when he had to take over my dad’s company abroad “.
” Yeah”. they chuckle.
“So, are you okay?” she asked and he was surprised at her question.
“Yeah, why do you ask?”
“you don’t look fine, it looks like you were being pressured to come here”.
” no, no, of course not, why would you say that”.
“You don’t have to lie to me, I know you have become uncomfortable since our parents announced the engagement between us,” she said, and he sighed
“Er, I–“.
” You don’t have to say anything” ” She cut him short. “I know it sounds shocking to you, but I don’t mind waiting for your answers and I wish we could make our parents proud”.
” So, are you saying you want us together?” he asked and she nodded her head.
“Yeah, I was betrothed to you since I was a child”.
” B-but don’t you see it’s kinda weird or something, we are in the 21st century, and things like this don’t exist anymore”. he said.
“I know, but, don’t you like the idea? Don’t you want us together?” she asked staring straight into his eyes and Baek-Hyun sighed.
“listen Ha-jun, you–” They got interrupted by Mrs. I-jun asking them to come inside, they stood up and left, meanwhile, someone was hiding behind the house taking pictures of them from the moment they stepped into the house.
The next day, the photos of Baek-Hyun and Ha-jun went viral on air with a lot of comments and reactions from people.
“So, their engagement was true, they are dating”. 1st commenter posted
” They sure look good together”2nd commenter posted and a lot of comment was coming on.
Baek-Hyun entered his company and saw people murmuring toward him, the look on their faces, he went confused and went into his office with his PA.
“Do you mind telling me what is going on?”. he asked staring straight at his PA eyes.
” Er, is a mixed reaction between you and Miss Ha-jun and it’s trending online”. He replied nervously and quickly Baek-Hyun checked through his phone and saw the photos and comments from people.
“Gosh! How did this happen?” he asked confusedly and then made a phone call” I want this trend going on about me and Ha-jun should be brought down immediately”. he said and then hung up.
“Is there anything else, sir”.
” No, you can go,”.he said, and his PA gave a slight bow and left. he sighs tiredly.
Ji-ho saw the news about Baek-Hyun and Ha-jun, and she became sad and also get pissed off about her colleagues blabbing about it, all she wanted to do was to shut them up.
“Oh my, Ha-jun is so lucky, they look perfect together,” 1st colleague said smiling.
“Yeah, but something seems off with Baek-Hyun” 2nd colleague said.
“How do you mean?” they asked.
“It looks like he is not interested in her”.
” Of course not, They look awesome together, he is just being nervous, you know Ha-jun is a beauty to behold”. 3rd colleague said and they laughed, then they turned to Ji-ho.
“Ji-ho, what do you think of this?” 1st colleague asked and she turned to them.
“Think of what?”. She asked.
” The trend between the handsome Baek-Hyun and the beauty Ha-jun, don’t they look perfect together?”.
“Er, I don’t know”. she sputtered.
” Don’t say that, look at them very well”. she said pointing her phone to Ji-ho’s face to see the photos.
“um, yeah, they do” she smiled forcedly at them.
“of course”. they laugh.
Later in the day, Chan-yeol and Byung-ho came over and they sat down outside the veranda with their glasses filled with red wine.
” You two do look perfect together”. Chan-yeol said and he got a hard stare from Baek-Hyun” What, you know I am right”.
“We don’t and stop saying that, that photo of us was a mistake, nothing is going on between us”. he said.
” But you said she told you, she would wait for you until you are ready to accept her”. Byung-ho said.
“Listen, Ha-jun and I can never happen, I can’t fit myself to like her”. Baek-Hyun said.
” then, who did your body fit to like? Miss ji-ho?” chan-yeol teased.
Baek-Hyun sighed while taking a sip from his wine.
“Is that so? You still want Miss Ji-ho?” Byung-ho asked.
Baek-Hyun ignores him.
“Answer the question, Baek-Hyun, don’t try to hide anything”. Chan-yeol said.
” Am not hiding anything, and to your question, Byung-ho, the answer is yes, I want, miss ji-ho, you guys know she has always been the one after my heart, and I can fit in to like someone else rather than her”. he said.
“And you think she is going to like you back? You are only going to put her in serious trouble”. Chan-yeol said.
” What trouble?” he asked.
“you know what I mean”. he replied.
ji-ho came to Su-ho’s house, and they sat down in the dining room, having their dinner except for Dae-Seong who traveled for a business meeting.
” Do you believe that story about them?” Su-ho asked staring at ji-ho.
“I don’t know and I don’t think it bothers me”. she replied.
” Why shouldn’t it bother you, this is Baek-Hyun we are talking about, are you going to let him slip off your hands?”.
“Su-ho, can we not talk about this, I told you before that it won’t work between us, it’s forbidden”. she said as she took a scoop of rice to her mouth.
” You know Baek-Hyun loves and adore you a lot, nothing is forbidden, just admit that you are scared”.
“Seriously we can’t, am happy he is getting married to Ha-jun, they make a perfect couple”.
” Really? Do they? are you really happy?” Su-ho asked staring at her skeptically.
“Don’t –” she got interrupted as her phone rang, she smiled as she noticed the caller. “hey little sis”. there was a pause”mm-hm, yeah, am fine, you?”, there was another pause” Really? That’s good, I will be expecting you… bye, love you”. She hung up smiling.
” was that Si-u?”.
“yes, she’s coming this weekend”. she said smiling.
” Wow, that’s nice, but what about her work over there?”.
“Well, her company just transferred her here for some business proposals”.
” Wow, that’s great, I can’t wait to see her, because the last time I saw her was at the wedding”.
“yeah”. she replied with a sigh and Su-ho noticed.
” Anyway, since your darling sister is coming, I guess your boredom will be over”. They chuckle and resume their meal.
