Chapter-Twenty
Si-u was on the phone with ji-ho
“No, Baek-Hyun is not doing well, Byung-ho called to say earlier he was rushed to the hospital”. she said and ji-ho gasped on the other end of the phone.
” What? why? Is he ok?” she panicked
“I don’t think so, what do we do?” She asked confusedly.
Back at the hospital, Baek-Hyun was sleeping calmly as a drip was fixed on him, his mother sat next to him at the edge of the bed, also with Ha-jun, while the rest stood staring at him. Just then he opened his eyes weakly.
“He is awake”. Ha-jun said and they moved to him.
” Son, are you okay?” Mrs.I-jun asked tensely.
“Are you okay, son?” Mr.Dae-jung asked and Baek-Hyun stared at them, then Chan-yeol’s phone rang.
“The food is here, let me get it”. he left.
” Where am I?”Baek-Hyun asked weakly.
“You are at the hospital, we rushed you here an hour ago”. Byung-ho said and Baek-Hyun managed to sit upright on the bed with the help of his mother and Ha-jun.
” Why do you have to bring me here, you could have left me alone in my room”. he said.
“Don’t talk like that, do you want to die?” Mrs. I-jun asked.
“Do you know what you are doing to yourself? Why are you hurting yourself?”. Mr.Dae-jung quarrels with him.
” Your dad is right, stop hurting yourself, everyone is worried sick about you”.Ha-jun said and Baek-Hyun turned his face to the window. Then chan-yeol enters with a lunch box.
“Here is the food, “Chan-yeol said as he dished the food on the tray in front of Baek-Hyun.” Here you go”.
“Come on son, eat”. Mrs. I-jun said as she took a spoon to feed him.
” I don’t want, am not hungry”. he declined.
“Come on, Baek-Hyun, eat something, the doctor said you are suffering from malnutrition”. Byung-ho said.
” Please try and eat, you haven’t eaten for days now”. Chan-yeol persuaded.
“Am not eating, Can you all just leave me alone”. he yelled.
” Do you want to die of starvation because of a woman, she is not worth it son” Mr.Dae-jung said.
“Please Baek-Hyun, look at me, am your mother, you are my only son, don’t do this to me”. she sobs.
” Baek-Hyun, you – ” Byung-ho got interrupted by a phone call.” Excuse me” he went out of the room and picked up the call “Hello”.
“Hello Byung-ho, is me,”ji-ho said on the other end of the phone, and he was surprised.
” Ji-ho? Oh my gosh, is you, where are you?”
“Am sorry I can’t tell, How is Baek-Hyun? Si-u told me he was rushed to the hospital, What happened to him?” she asked tensely.
“I can’t lie to you, Baek-Hyun hasn’t been himself since you left, he has refused to eat or talk to anyone, he was rushed to the hospital earlier and the doctor said he is suffering from malnutrition, he hasn’t eaten for days and right now he is still refusing to eat”. he explained with a sigh.
” Oh my gosh, why is he doing that to himself? I told him not to do anything hurtful to himself “. She sobs on the phone.
” You know how stubborn he can be, he won’t listen to anyone except you, can you please come back, he needs you”.
“I wish I could”. she sniffs. ” I want you to do something for me, make everyone go out, I want to speak with him”.
“Okay, I think that will help, just hold on” he went back to the room to see everyone still trying to persuade Baek-Hyun to eat. “Alright everyone, can you leave us alone for a moment to talk to him?”. he asked.
” Okay, please make him eat something”.Mrs.I-jun said.
“We will Aunt, you all don’t need to worry”. he said and they went out leaving the three of them alone in the room.
” Seriously man, you are unbelievable”. Chan-yeol said.
“Come on, Baek-Hyun, someone wants to speak to you”.
” I don’t want to talk to anyone, you two should leave me alone”. he said and Byung-ho smiled.
“You think so?”. he moved closer to him on the bed and placed the phone in his ear.” You can talk to him now”. he said and Baek-Hyun tried to push him off, but he immediately froze to hear ji-ho voice, he grabs the phone from him and holds it tight to his ear.
“Baek-Hyun”. she called sadly and tears filled Baek-Hyun’s eyes. Byung-ho moves to stand next to Chan-yeol.
” Who is that?” he asked.
“Ji-ho” he whispered to his ear and Chan-yeol went surprised.
” Ji-ho?” he asked and he nodded.
“What are you doing to yourself? Didn’t I warn you to always look after yourself no matter what, Why are you doing this?” she yelled.
“I want you back, where are you?”. he asked sadly.
” Do you really want to die? You want to die of starvation? OK, go ahead, do wh@tëver you want, but know that you will never see me again”. she threatened.
“No, please don’t say that”.
” Then stop hurting yourself, Do you think I am happy seeing you like this”.
“Then come back to me, if you really don’t want to see me like this, come back, stop pushing me away, stop ignoring me “.
” I am not pushing you away, I just want you to be happy”
“My happiness lies with you, ji-ho, don’t you understand that, I want you back “.
” Baek-hyun, please stop hurting yourself, I can’t bear it. Byung-ho said you haven’t eaten anything for days now, please eat something”.
“I am not eating anything till I see you”.
“Please Baek-hyun, don’t do this, you are hurting me as well, please eat something”.
“No! I will not”.
” Baek-hyun please, you can’t remain like this”. chan-yeol said.
“Please for your mother’s sake, please eat something and I promise to come back”. ji-ho said.
” Really? You promise?”Baek-hyun asked as he sniffed and brightened up his face.
“Yes, if only you eat your food right now”.
” Sure, I will eat”. He pushed the food closer to himself and took a scoop of it to his mouth, his friends sighed in relief.
“Finally,”. Byung-ho said and ji-ho sighed in relief as she heard the chewing of the food in his mouth.
” Thank you Baek-Hyun, please don’t starve yourself again”.
“As long as you are with me,” he said and continued eating then Byung-ho moved closer and took the phone from him.
“Hello ji-ho, thank you a lot”. he said.
“Please take a photo of him and send it to me”.
” Sure, hold on”. He takes a photo of Baek-hyun and then sends it to her.” Done, okay, have a nice day”. He hung up and then the rest entered and was surprised to see Baek-hyun eating in a rush.
“Oh my “. Mrs. I-jun said as she rushed to him and helped him with water.
” How do you manage to convince him to eat?” Ha-jun asked.
“Well, we just talk, and he sticks with it”. Chan-yeol said.
“Let me see the doctor,” Mr.Dae-jung said as he walked away.
The next day, Baek-Hyun was discharged from the hospital and brought home, his mother sat beside him on the bed.
“Mom, am fine”. he said.
” I know but I want to take care of you”. she said.
“Mom, you know I am not a kid anymore, I can take care of myself”.
” But- she got interrupted.
“Please, I will be fine, besides Byung-ho and chan-yeol will be staying with me for some days, you don’t have to worry about anything”.
“Okay, if you say so”.
” Sure” he embraced her.” am sorry I made you look stressed”.
“Is ok, as long as you are happy, I am happy too”. They pulled away from each other arms and she caressed his face.” Call me whenever you need anything”.
“I will Mom”. He kissed her forehead and they smiled at each other.
Ha-jun was cooking with the help of her nanny. her mother enters.
“There you are, what are you doing?”Mrs. Do-Yun asked
” Hi Mom, am cooking”. he replied.
“Since when?” she asked surprisedly.
“Am cooking for Baek-Hyun, you know he just got discharged from the hospital, so I want to bring this meal to him”.
” Aww! That’s cute ” She smiled at her.
” Thank you, Mom”.
“Alright then, I will leave you to it”. She walks away.
