“Do you really have to do that?” Lilian asked, staring at her brother in disbelief.
“Why? She’s my baby and I’m gonna do anything for her” Charles said.
Hailey buried her face to the floor, she couldn’t even raise her head to stare at anyone present in the dining.
Charles has finally succeeded in making her uncomfortable in the presence of his family.
Mr. Monterio glanced at Hailey.
“So, can you tell me about you?” He asked.
Hailey raised her head to stare at him.
“About your family, your parents’ occupation. And your profession” Mr. Monterio continued.
Hailey stared at Charles confused, they weren’t even prepared for this.
“Let’s skip this today, she’s already uncomfortable already as it is” Charles quickly spoke out. He knows why his father is asking this question and he isn’t ready for any Sh|t right now.
“Why? I need to know more about her” Mr. Monterio said.
“That fact that I love her isn’t enough proof that she’s the right one?” Charles asked.
“At least I need to know if she’s different from her,” Mr. Monterio said.
Charles sighs loudly. He dropped the spoon in his hand on the table and stood up.
He went to Hailey and grabbed her hand.
“Let’s go, baby. I think we’re done here” he said.
Hailey stared at him wondering what suddenly went wrong.
“Okay, fine. Have your seat, I won’t bother you about that” Mr. Monterio said.
“No need for that, we’re taking our leave now” Charles said.
“Charles” Hailey called.
He stared at her and she shook her head slowly.
“Let’s stay for a while,” she muttered.
Charles sighs.
“Are you sure? Do you feel comfortable with it?” He asked.
She nodded with a smile.
“Fine” he went back to his seat.
“So, you were planning on leaving before?” Lilian asked.
Mr. Monterio stared at Charles waiting for his reply. He couldn’t believe his son just listened to a woman over him.
He must really love her a lot.
“Hailey is totally different from other girls, my heart is safe with her, I can assure you that” Charles said.
“I know,” Mr. Monterio smiled. With what he had just seen, there’s no room for any doubt again.
He glanced at Hailey.
“Feel free dear, and you’re welcome into our home” he said.
“Thank you sir” Hailey said.
Hailey looked around wondering why there wasn’t even a glimpse of his Mom. Not even a single picture of her is in the house.
She looked at Charles who was smiling with something Lilian said.
That night, she saw another side of him. The side that makes her heart flutter a lot.
“So, can you tell me more about how you guys met? How did my brother toasted you?” Lilian suddenly asked.
“He was actually a jerk,” Hailey said.
Mr. Monterio laughed. With her around, he was already smiling too much.
“Omigosh! This is so surprising” Lilian clapped her hands excitedly.
Charles frowned.
“I wasn’t,” he denied.
“You were”
“I wasn’t, babe”
“Of course you were”
Charles sighs in defeat.
“Yeah, a jerk that’s madly in love with you” he said.
That was it. Those butterflies started their party in Hailey’s stomach as her heart wouldn’t stop beating foolishly.
Hailey couldn’t hide her blush, she quickly looked elsewhere and bit her cheeks hoping to stop her cheeks from being red.
“You guys are making me wanna grow older soon and then fall in love” Lilian said.
“You’re never falling in love till you turn thirty” Mr. Monterio said.
“What?” Lilian stared at him with wide eyes.
Hailey laughed and Charles joined her too.

MINUTES LATER***
They were done eating and they already left the dining room.
Charles was in the living room with Mr. Monterio. Lilian took Hailey to the restroom.
“She’s not bad,” Mr. Monterio said.
“Huh?”
“I like her already. She’s good for you, Charles, don’t you dare lose her” he said.
Charles smiled.
“I wouldn’t dare,” he muttered.
“Do you know why I was bringing those ladies for you?” Mr. Monterio asked.
“Because I want the best for you. I don’t want the past to repeat itself again” he said.
“I know,” Charles said.
“Don’t worry, such won’t happen again” he assured.

Hailey came out of the restroom after washing her hands.
“I’m done. Thanks” she smiled at Lilian.
“Can you tell me what’s going on between you and my brother? When did you both start dating? The last thing I could remember, you kind of disliked my brother the day I came to your store. So…. How?” Lilian rushed out at once.
“Your brother and I have met each other before on a beach just like I mentioned before. He was a jerk so I kinda disliked him at first.”
“After that day you both left the store, he came back. This time, like a responsible man and I fell in love with him” Hailey lied smoothly.
Lilian smiled.
“To be honest, I kind of like you for my brother and I’m happy to know that you both are finally dating,” she said.
Hailey forced a smile. She felt bad for lying to her but they had no choice. They already started it so they had to finish it themselves.
“Thank you” she mumbled.
“Let’s go, they must be waiting for us already” Lilian held her hand and they both walked to the living room.
They arrived at the living room and Lilian went to sit on one of the sofas.
Charles tapped the space next to him and Hailey went to sit beside him. He wrapped his arms around her shoulder and pulled her closer to him.
Hailey stared at him and he pretended to be looking elsewhere. For now, he needs to make use of his time well.
“Why don’t you both spend the night here?” Mr. Monterio asked.
“We can’t. She needs to get home” Charles said.
Mr. Monterio stared at Hailey.
“Can you spend the night here please? Your presence is making the house lively” he said.
Hailey looked at Charles who had an apologetic look on his face. This wasn’t part of their deal.
“Please don’t refuse, sis. Please” Lilian butted in.
“No problem, I’ll spend the night here,” Hailey said.
“Wow! Thank you so much!” Lilian smiled happily.
“You can make use of your room, Charles. Since she’s your girlfriend, you both can sleep in the same room” Mr. Monterio said.
Hailey’s eyes widened. Sleep in the same room?? With Charles??
“It was nice meeting you, Hailey. I hope to see you again soon” Mr. Monterio said. He stood up from the chair and faced Lilian.
“You should go to bed, it’s late already” he muttered before leaving the living room.
Lilian pouts.
“I really wish to spend some time with you but I don’t want Dad to be mad at me. Can you come here some other time?”
“Shut up and go to your room” Charles quickly said.
“It’s fine. I’ll come some other time” Hailey said.
“Thank you sis. Goodnight” Lilian waved before going to her room.
Hailey and Charles were both left alone in the living room.
Hailey shifted away from Charles causing his hand to fall on the chair.
“We’re alone so I don’t think there’s a need for that” she muttered.
“I’m sorry that you had to go through all this, I had no idea he was going to ask us to spend the night here” Charles said.
“I can talk to him if you don’t want”
“No, it’s fine. You already paid me for it so I have no choice” she said.
Charles nodded.
“Let’s go, I’ll show you my room” he said.
Hailey stood up and he stretched his palm towards her.
“Hold me so you won’t fall,” he said.
Hailey laughed softly before placing her hand on his. They both left the living room.
