After our little hide and seek, i later agreed that we call Jesse. I’m so anxious, especially when Jesse hasn’t picked up and this is the second time of dialing his number.
“This is really a bad idea summer” I say to her. “I said it, Jesse is just too proud and arrogant I’m sure he’s feeling on top of the world right now” i add with a Scoff.
“You can’t say, he might be busy or something” she tries to defend. I just roll my eyes standing up.
Jesse just made me feel like a stupid person.
“Oh, he just sent a message” i hear summer making me pause and turn back.
“What did he say?”
“He’s said he’s currently in a meeting and he’s going to return your call when he’s through” she tells me.
“What if you’re not there when he calls, what am I suppose to say to him?”
“It’s simple Bev, apologize for the other day and fix things up between you” she says.
“Apologize?”
“Yes, why is it so hard for you to say sorry?”
“No, that’s not it. This is entirely a different situation. He’s not the only one offended that day. He literally mentioned my late sister’s name which I h@të. He brought out memories that took me years to forget”
“I’m so sorry about that, and I’m not trying to defend him but he might have said that out of anger”
“Well it’s okay, but I think I should end this thing going on. What do you think?”
“End it? Are you sure about this?”
“I don’t know, I just don’t want to get more attached ”
“It’s okay, wh@tëver you think is right. I’m with you ”
“Thank you Babe ” I smile and she returns it.
At 4pm when there isn’t much sales, we decide to close the bakery and go home. Roy came to pick Summer up. He was happy to see that we are on good terms now. I left after them, and decided to branch the grocery store to get some food stuff cos I’ve been eating too much of take out and canned food.
I got home by 5, take a shower and settle for the bowl of ramen noodles I got at the Chinese restaurant on my way home.
I ate till full, and keep the left over in my refrigerator. After which I clean my kitchen and set the things I bought in the right place.
After I was done, I lay on my bed about to dial my mom’s number when Jesse’s call comes in. I answer it placing my phone on my left ear.
“Hello!” his deep sëxy voice sounds like music to my ears. I’m addicted to listening to this voice.
“Hello, Beverly are you there?”
“Oh yeah, hey Jesse”
“Sorry I couldn’t pick your call this morning, I was really busy”
“Yeah, no problem” I say and clear my throat ready to talk
“And I wanted to call… I wanted to apologize for bringing your sister up. I’m really sorry, i know it was just you passing aggression that day.” he beats me to it.
“I called to apologize, I was stupidly jealous of you and Crystal. It’s really stupid ”
“I Will feel the same way if I was you that day. I just wasn’t thinking.” he says.
“I’m glad this is settled now ” i say.
“Me too “he replies and we both go silent.
I don’t know how to tell him I want to stop wh@tëver is going on between us and I know the best way is to tell him on the phone. I can never tell him when he’s standing next to me or looking at me. I’d forget i ever thought of it.
“And there’s something I need to tell you Jesse”
“I’m at your door” he replies and I almost scream.
“What?”
“I’ve been outside ten minutes ago, before I called.” he replies and the first thing I did was to look down at my body. I’m putting a sponge bob themed yellow pyjamas. I look like a Fuçking clown in it.
“I… I’m coming” I say running upstairs to change my clothes.
“Your Pj is cute, don’t change it” he says making me froze
“How did you…”
“I saw you through your kitchen window, come open the door my legs are killing me” he groans.
“I’m coming” I reply and hang up. I walk to the door, flushed red. Gosh I feel so embarrassed.
“Hey” I greet opening the door for him to come into my living room.
His beaming smile meet me on the way and gosh he looks more handsome than before.
“You’re staring” he chuckles.
“I’m sorry” I blush closing the door.
“I don’t mind” he says holding my gaze. I look away scratching my head.
Gosh, I need to tell him now.
