They were outside watching the stars. They’ve been together since they left work
” Who said I’m going home? I’m spending the night here.. Jeffrey said while Violet stared at him
“What type of joke is that? She laughed but Jeffrey didn’t.
“Wait, Are you serious? She asked when she noticed He didn’t say anything
“I’m serious.. he replied and push her gently out of his way as he walked fully into the house. ” Not as if we are strangers and it’s not my first time spending the night here” he added
“Yeah , I know.. but you only spend the night here when you have an assignment to do.. She replied as she entered the house too
“Here is my book” Jeffrey raised a book up. ” I brought an assignment and I also need you to explain it to me” he added sitting on the couch
“You should have told me this since afternoon Jeff.. violet frowned
“I’m sorry beautiful, but it really did escape my mind.. he replied
“It’s fine… But before that I need to eat” she said and walked into the kitchen. Her dinner was served already. She walked back to the sitting room and placed it Infront of Jeffrey
“Let’s eat first.. she said and he nodded…
The began to eat and Jeffery couldn’t stop stealing glances at her.
“Tell her your mind.. his subconscious mind told him
“No, I’m afraid I’m gonna make her angry if I do.. he sigh worriedly
“What’s wrong? Violet asked after noticing his worried look
“Oh, nothing don’t mind me. What of granny?.. he asked
“She’s asleep.. she replied as she cleared the dishes.
“Here ” she stretch the glass of water to Jeffrey
“Thanks.. he said and collected the glass from her. He gulped down the water and followed her into the kitchen. They did the dishes and went back to the sitting room minutes later
“If you’re tired, we can just do it tomorrow morning before I go to class”
“No.. you know I h@të it when my sleep is interrupted. I’ll still be in bed until 10am or more. Violet said and he smiled
” You’ll never change…Aren’t you ashame?” He grimaced
” Why? Not as if sleeping is a bad thing” she shrug
” You’re telling me you do wake up late? You should be ashamed of yourself? ” Jeffrey asked and she scoff
” Wèishéme?( Why? ) You’re my friend… anyways, let’s see what you’ve got today.. she said and sat closer to him.
Jeffrey brought out his books and placed them on the table. Violet opened the books Infront of her and went through them. She stood up and entered her room, she got a text book and went back to the sitting room
She sat down and brought out a book and a pen and began solving the questions
Jeffrey stared at her as she solved the maths questions with ease. He couldn’t help but admire her pretty face and silky hair. He wanted her even though he knew he was being selfish but he couldn’t help it
She was done minutes later and began to explain. Jeffrey was deep in thoughts as he stared at her
She was done explaining but he was still staring at her
“You don’t understand?” She asked, looking at him
“Hey.. she tapped him and he quivered
“Have I been talking alone again?” A frown creased her forehead
“Oh!, I’m sorry.. he apologized
“If you continue this way, maybe you should stop bringing your questions to me… Violet said
“I’m sorry.. I was just thinking about something.. he said
“What were you thinking about?” She asked
“It’s just…. a guy….. He replied
“Don’t tell me you’re into guys!” She exclaimed
“Don’t be ridiculous” he flicked her forehead
“Ouch.. she wince
“His name is Ryan… Jeffrey said
“What about him? Does he have difficulties in his studies too? Violet asked
” No, it’s the opposite. The dude is very intelligent, he was even nicknamed ‘Google’ ” he replied
“If he’s that good , then why don’t you go meet him so he could help you out with your assignment rather than coming to stress my brain..” she rolled her eyes
“That’s the problem. He’s calm, cold, doesn’t make Friends… And he doesn’t talk too.. Jeffrey said and violet found the story interesting
“He doesn’t talk? Does he have bad breath? Or Is he dumb? Gosh, he must’ve been humiliated in that school.. she said
“Not that, he speaks just few words a day.. some say he speaks just seven times a day” Jeffrey said and violet furrowed her brow
“That’s more…. ridiculous. She scoff
“I’m serious…
“That’s his problem. Anyway, I’m done with the questions, I’ll explain tomorrow, I’m so tired right now.. she stood up
“Alright, I will go through them. Jeffrey said and she nodded
” Wan’ān ( good night) she yawned before heading to her room.
Jeffrey sigh and laid on the couch. He pictured violet’s face and he smiled
“I don’t know why my heart doesn’t want to keep you as just friends” He sigh and closed his eyes

Violet laid on her bed tossing from one end to another.
He’s intelligent, calm, cold and doesn’t keep friends.. Jeffrey words kept ringing in her head.
“From Jeff’s description, he seems like someone who’s going through a lot emotionally” She sigh and closed her eyes
“Worry about yourself violet.. she sigh again
“Can’t believe I made $1000 in just a day” She gushed happily and started jumping on her bed
“Grandma will be so proud. Can’t wait for evergreen to start their scholarship program. I need to finish school at all cost” She smiled and laid back on the bed closing her eyes again, this time, sleep came without warning.

Ryan sat Infront of his laptop, operating it. He checked the time and discovered it was forty five minutes after Eleven. He has been in his room since he left school and he hasn’t eaten anything since morning.
He walked out of his room and headed to the fridge. He took an apple with a juice and made to take the stairs when the door opened
His gaze met with that of his father who just walked in
” Huānyíng ( welcome ).. he said and turn to leave when his dad spoke up
“How can you think of food when you are supposed to be reading?” His dad asked sternly while his mom watch from upstairs
“He has been reading since he got back from school and hasn’t eating anything today.. Leyan said walking to meet them
“Is that so?” His dad asked but he walked out on them quietly
Of course that’s what his dad wanted. He only wanted him to read and read and read. Apart from that, his Dad didn’t want him to do anything else but he wanted to be free. He wanted freedom yet his parents wouldn’t understand him
“You must be tired. Layan kissed her husband.
They both made their way to the room
Ryan sigh as he stared at the apple in his hands. He exhaled deeply before taking a bite from it. He drank from the juice. He sat back Infront of his laptop and resumed doing his assignment
In minutes he was done and his head started to hurt badly. He sobbed silently as he laid on his bed. The headache was just too much that he had to bath the Fourth time.
He left the bathroom minutes later and sighed when the headache relieved him a bit. He sat down on his bed then laid on it.
“It’s all my fault. If I weren’t stubborn back then then none of this would be happening” he sighed guiltily and closed his eyes embracing sleep
