Ella successfully seal the deal with the new investors, and used the opportunity of the power she acquired to evict those who will be against her from the company.
She was appointed as the new CEO by the boards, and she changed the name of the company to clarify a new beginning.
She returned home to an empty house after the inauguration ceremony. She has no close friends or relatives so there was no one she could celebrate with.
She went to her room and picked her family picture all smiles before dialing a number.
•
📞*Hello, mum,*
📲*Who’s this?* she heard from the receivers end and her heart skipped a beat.
📞*Mum, it’s me, Ella,* with that, the receiver dropped the call.
•
After her family went bankrupt years ago, not only did they lose their assets, she also lost her family.
She refused to go to the countryside with them and insisted on staying with Violet. After all failed attempts to convince her, her father left after denouncing her as his daughter and they got involved in an accident on their way which cost her father to suffer from dementia.
Her mother struggled to care for her father alone, always pleading her to return home for assistance, but she refused until her mother cut ties with her.
She didn’t think too much about it and stated funding her father’s hospital expenses and also send money over but her mother never acknowledged it.
She put all the thoughts aside and went to bed but she was unable to sleep. She might have achieved everything she yearned for but it doesn’t seem like a win.
**
She left the house the following day and went to the detention centre to see Mr. Josh.
“What do you want?” he blurted, his face twisted in a frown.
“Why did you show up that day?” she asked, her voice low.
“What nonsense are you blabbering?!” he yelled.
“That day at school, when I was all alone and surrounded, why did you suddenly showed up?” she asked, remembering the day.

FLASHBACK to many years ago***
*
Ella went to school against her parents wish a day after their bankruptcy was announced. She couldn’t think of the best place to go to get her mind off everything than school.
She arrived at school and started eye searching for her friends. Violet might be her best friend but they both have other friends as well.
“Emily,” she called one of her friend that was in company of two others and walked up to them, “Hi, Sonia, hi Grace,” she greeted the two other girls who scoffed before looking away.
“Ella, is it true? Did your family really hit rock bottom?!” Emily snapped, and her jaw dropped.
“Emi…”
“You got some nerve to show your face at school,” Sonia scoffed and left.
“Gosh. Seems like it’s true,” Grace added, and followed.
“I’ll go to class first. You can follow after counting to 50,” with that, Emily left as well.
Ella stood there dumbfounded on what to do. She thought she could find comfort at school to escape from the harsh reality, but school is worst than home.
She didn’t have the confidence to go to class because she already knows what was waiting for her, and what she left at home was also overwhelming so she couldn’t get the courage to return back home.
She stood there dumbfounded, and before she could gather her thoughts, she was already surrounded by a bunch of students— her so-called friends, classmates, teammates, gist partners, club members, and so many familiar faces bombarding her with questions and insulting her all together.
She left lost and wish she could grow wings and fly away when she felt someone dragged her away from the unwanted environment.
She didn’t care to look at who he was but she was glad to be free from them until they got to a quiet place and she looked at her rescuer to see Mr. Josh.
Mr. Josh is the head secretary of Holts’ enterprise. Despite her relationship with the Holts’ she was never close to him which made her wondered why he rescued her.
“Miss Blake, are you ok?”
“Why? Why did you rescued me from them?”
“Because you needed help,”
“But, why?!” she showed, “My parents said it was the Holts, my family went under because of them, so why?! Are you trying to mock me?”
“Miss Blake, I won’t answer aby of your question. My only advise for you is this; don’t live a pathetic life, don’t live like some loser,”
“How am I supposed to live? My family went under so how am I supposed to jive?! Now, I’ll have to move to the countryside…”
“Miss Blake, the choice is yours to make. You can either chose to go under like your parents, or live your own life,”
“How am I supposed to live without mh parents? How?!”
“The Holts might have abandoned the Blake’s during the time they need them the most, but I know that Miss Holt will never abandon you,” Mr. Josh said, and they saw Violet running to them from afar.
“What does that mean?”
“You can either chose to return to the countryside or—…” he was saying, but stopped talking when Violet got closer.
“Or what?” Ella asked.
“Ella, what happened to you? Are you ok?” Violet said worriedly, and embraced her.
Ella looked up at Mr. Josh who smirked evilly before leaving.
“Or what?” she thought.

FLASHBACK ENDS***
*
Mr. Josh chucked after he remembered everything.
“Why? Why won’t you answer me? Or what? You were going to tell me something? Why did you suddenly showed up that day?!” she shouted, hitting the desk.
“Why? Did you suddenly feel lonely now that you achieved everything?”
“No. I’m glad that I achieved them all alone. I successfully shove all obstacles under,”
“That’s just like you. “Or”? Are you still willing to head that answer?”
“No. I’m not curious anymore. I solved that myself and came this far,”
“I hope you consider this a win. You successfully get rid of Maxwell and I, and the whole win is yours now,”
“Yes. Our next meeting will be in your trial, whatever that “or” was, or your reasons for being there, it will all be finalized that day,” with that, she get up to leave.
“Have you ever paid your father a visit? The last time I visited him, he was asking after you. He doesn’t even remember anyone but you. You should see him,” Mr. Josh said, and she stopped on her track to look at him.
“You won’t be able to visit him anymore. I’ll take bare of my own business from now henceforth, thanks for the concern,”
“I came to your rescue that day because your father saved me once but I ended up working with the Holts instead,”
“How did my father saved you?”
“Wjmk you get me a lawyer in return?” he asked, and she scoffed.
“That won’t make you go freely,”
“But it will reduce my sentence,”
“Let’s hear it. Getting you a lawyer won’t cost me anything,”
“He was my acquaintance in middle school. We were dad from friends but he saved me when I wanted to end it all. I thought it was the brick and wanted to fly off the building but he found me and said the right words,”
“You have known my father for that long?”
“I doubt if he remembered me when we met again in college. He was friends with David and I was David’s friend as well. I was too embarrassed to introduce myself when he doesn’t even recognize me but I kept a close watch on him. He and David became closer and even built thier dream company together. I went to you that sha with the right words tha could save you,”
“You manipulated me?”
“Did I?” he asked bavk.
“That doesn’t really matter now,”
“And “or” I had nothing to say, I just used that to give you a purpose to keep on living and you chose this,”
“You knew I would choose this?”
“But I never expected you to succeed. You were unlike your father,”
“I heard enough. I’ll send the lawyer over, and that’s will be all,” with that, she turned to leave.
“All the decisions you made so far, have you ever regretted any?”
“They were right decisions from my end,” having said that, she left.

Jon and Ivy went to have dinner together after school. She had an evening class that kept her to flow late at school but he waited behind for her and treat her for dinner right after.
“Ivy, about you and Carolyn… and that Charles guy. Don’t you wind to explain that?”
“It’s a long story,” she muttered, paying less attention to him.
“I know. I’m aware of your family’s history and others, but… I don’t know how it involved Charles and Carolyn. Is there something you’re keeping from me?”
“Jon, no matter how hard I explain it, you can’t understand,”
“But say it away. You can’t just keep me in the dark like this. What’s really between you all? You suddenly grew close to Carolyn and that Charles guy. I demand an explanation,”
“Jon. It’s too difficult to explain. But the only thing I can say is they are good people,”
“What’s your connection?”
“They were good friends with my sister,”
“When did you know that? The last time I checked, Carolyn was a stranger to you,”
“You asked too many questions but that all I can say for now. We should pack this to-go. You barely touch it,” she said, and he exhaled heavily.
“You know you can always trust me, right?” he said, and she nodded.
“I do. That’s why you should trust me too,” she muttered, and he nodded.
*
He was driving her home when his phone started ringing, he ignored the calls multiple times but the caller didn’t give up.
“Who is he?” Ivy asked.
“Ken. A friend,”
“Why won’t you pick it?”
“It’s nothing important,”
“It’s nothing important,”
“He won’t keep calling if it’s not,” she persuaded, and he finally picked it when he called again.
📞*Wassup?*
📲*Bro, where are you?*
📞*I told you I’m off. I’m not interested in the party,*
📲*That’s not important right now. Bryan is causing troubles here!*
📞*I’m not interested,*
📲*He’s about to get himself kllled getting in troubles with Kaye,*
📞*What? Kaye? Kaye is mine to take care of!*
📲*And Bryan is here fighting that for you! Hey! Get over here unless he dles before you show up!* with that, the call ended.
“F¥ck!” he cursed, and looked at Ivy.
“Do you need to go to Bryan?”
“I’ll drop you home first,”
“The place should be close,” Ivy muttered.
“I’ll drop you off, and get to it. I apologize for bringing Bryan up in your presence,”
“That’s not important right now. Just drop me off, I’ll get a taxi,”
“That means I prioritize my friendship over you. I’ll drop you off and drive back,”
“Goodness. Fine. If the place is close, you can just head there first. It seem urgent,”
“Thank you,” with that, he took the route heading to the location.
*
He arrived at the place in few minutes and took care of his business before going out with Bryan and some of their other friends.
“Hey! Must I get in trouble before you hang out with me?” Bryan snapped.
“We’re over that man. Don’t ever get in trouble again! You’re no match for Kaye. I’m the one of his bad side so just ignore him form now henceforth. That will be all,”
“I’ve missed you, buddy. I got involved with Kaye because I know you would show up. Why? Are you really going to throw our friendship away because of her,”
“Ivy has nothing to do with this,”
“Of course she has everything to do with it! You became this messed up because of her!”
“I’m out of here,” Jon said, and turned to leave, but Bryan kicked him from behind.
“Hey! You go no where! We aren’t done talking,” Bryan said.
“Let’s talk when you sober up,” Jon said.
“I’m done, Jon. I don’t what revenge anyone, I want my best friend back,”
“Ken. I trust you to get him home safely,” Jon said, and turned to leave.
“Do you really love her or this is all based on her agreement? You promised to help me get back at her, you promised to help me dump her as hard as possible. But you dump me instead!” Bryan yelled.
Jon froze on his feet and looked at Bryan, before turning to the direction of his car to look at Ivy who was already out of the car.
“I don’t revenge anymore. Just end it and come back. I want my best friend back!” Bryan shouted in an uproar as his other friends lead him away while Jon stood there dumbfounded as he stared blankly at Ivy.
