Mrs. Greenwood (Sage’s mother) arrived home from work, and her daughter told her about Paulina’s visit.

“You don’t mean it, his girlfriend is here?” She asked, with widened eyes.

“Yes, mum. They have been in his room together for over an hour. I wonder what they’ve been discussing.” Clara said.

“Well… it’s bad to pry, but we can always invite them to grab some snacks. Yes, I should at least have dessert with my son’s girlfriend before she leaves.”

“You are right, mum. I should also get to know her.”

“Yes, you are right.” She said, and they both hit their hands together.

“I’ll go get them.” Clara said.

“Ok, ok, go ahead. I’ve to go freshen up.” She said, and Clara nodded before running off.
*
Clara burst into Sage’s room, and Sage and Paulina looked at her immediately- they just returned to the room after Paulina dropped her call.

“Clara, I already warned you countless time against barging into my room.” Sage yelled.

“I’ve no business with you, you aren’t the room.” Clara fired back.

“What? What nonsense are you spouting? What business do you’ve with Lina?”

“None of your business, I can have any business with my brother’s girlfriend.” She blurted, and went to grab Paulina’s hand.

“What girlfriend?” Sage shouted.

“Come with me, sis.” Clara said, and Paulina followed her.

“Hey, get back here!” Sage shouted after them.
*
Mrs. Geeenwood prepared dessert picnic in the garden, and Sage joined them wondering what it was all about.

“Mum, when did you prepared all these?” Sage asked.

“Come join us, son.” Sage said, and took the seat next to Paulina.

“Lina, my son has told us a lot about you.” Mrs. Russ said, and Sage glared at her.

“What’s this about mum? She isn’t my girlfriend.”

“Why are you feeling unease, I never said she was your girlfriend.”

“Mum, stop making her feel uncomfortable.” Sage said.

“It’s fine Sage, I’m not feeling uncomfortable. Thanks a lot for your hospitality, ma’am.” Paulina said.

“What a diligent young lady.” Mrs. Greenwood said, and Paulina smiled.

Mr. Greenwood joined them in the garden later, and they all divert their attention to him.

“Daddy, welcome back.” Clara shouted, and went to embrace him.

“You little… don’t tell me you skipped your academy today again?” He scolded, and she quietly returned back to her seat.

“Honey, Clara complained about the academy teachers, she even has testimonies from fellow students. The teachers are over pressuring.” Mrs. Greenwood said.

“What do you mean by that? She also made complains about her private teacher. We should encourage her to study harder, not slacking behind.”

“Sage is doing just fine without private tutoring.” She said, and Clara nodded along.

“But Sage has better grades compared to her.”

“She is also trying, I’ll monitor her grades myself for now, and personally hire a tutor for her myself so stop scolding her.” Mrs. Greenwood said.

“Honey, stop tolerating this girl. If you want her to become a prosecutor, then she has to start getting better grades now.”

“I’m not betting any card of Clara, just leave her alone. Sage is doing just fine.”

“Sage is better off taking over the company.” Mr. Greenwood shouted.

Sage let a a sigh watching them argue, and looked at Paulina who was obviously awed, and Clara who doesn’t seem bothered as she was enjoying her chocolate.

“That’s enough!” He shouted, and everyone looked at him.

“Sage, is there a problem?” Mrs. Greenwood asked in concern.

“That’s enough.” He muttered

“What? We have a guest.’ His father said, obviously he just noticed Paulina’s presence.

“Daddy, she is Sage’s girlfriend.” Clara said.

“You little… I told you she is just a friend.” Sage blurted.

“Lina?” His father asked, and Paulina stood up.

“Good evening, sir. I’m Paulina, Sage’s friend from school.” Paulina said, and Mr. Greenwood nodded.

“Oh… so she is the Lina you are always talking about. No wonder we are having a picnic out of the blues. It’s nice meeting you, Lina, my son has told me a lot about me. But he never mentioned that you were beautiful.” He said, and they all laughed.

“Stop flattering me, sir.” Paulina managed to say before taking her seat.

Mr. Greenwood took the seat beside Clara, and Clara passed some snacks to him. He patted her hair gently, and took a bite from the snacks.

“Lina, Sage told us you are a special scholar student, so how has the struggle been?” Mr. Greenwood asked, and they all looked at him.

“Dad…”. Sage called, and Paulina smiled.

“I’m hanging there, just fine.” She said, and he nodded.

“I see… Sage, you never told us how you two met.”

“Honey, I don’t think Joe is the right time to ask that.” Mrs. Greenwood said.

“What? Am I making her feel uncomfortable with my questions?” He asked.

“Yes, dad. So please stop.” Sage blurted.

“Sage…”. Paulina cautioned.

“Daddy, this chocolate is mouthwatering, have some and stop talking too much.” Clara said, and forced some piece of chocolate in his mouth.

He chewed the chocolate, and everyone laughed sarcastically. They all engaged on random conversations, and Mrs. Greenwood invited Paulina for their next fishing trip.

“Mum, I already told you. Not everyone enjoys fishing.” Sage shouted.

“What’s wrong in fishing, I personally enjoy it.” Clara said, and her mother gave her a thump up.

“I enjoy it too.” Paulina said, and everyone looked at her.

“You what?” Sage and his father shouted.

“Wow, it’s interesting. My wife and beautiful daughter are the only female I know that enjoys fishing.” Mr. Greenwood said.

“Wow, then we can all go fishing together.” Clara giggled.

“How come you enjoy fishing? Have you ever gone fishing before?” Mr. Greenwood asked.

“Yes, I fish often with my mother back at home.” She said, and they all looked at her.

“Really? You never told me that.” Sage said.

“What does your family do?” Mr. Greenwood asked, and they all looked at him.

“Honey, that’s none of our business. She is just Sage’s friend.” Mrs. Greenwood said, and he modded.

“I’m just cyrous because this is the first time Sage will hang out with a female friend, after he grown into a teenager.”

“Dad, Lina isn’t my only female friend, there is also Sophie. She is our friend.” He said, pointing at Paulina.

“Sophie?” His family chorused.

“You’ve never mentioned that name before.” Mrs. Greenwood said.

“Never!” Clara added.

Mrs. Greenwood’s phone rang later, and she excused herself to receive the call, while her husband followed

The kids engaged in random talks, and Mrs. Greenwood returned to pass the phone to Sage, while Sage excused himself as well.

“Do you like Sage?” Clara asked Paulina when they were alone, and Paulina almost choked on saliva.

“What…”. She shuddered.

“You aren’t sure, right?” Clara said, and Paulina looked at her speechlessly. “Sage likes you.” She added.

“What are you saying?” Paulina said, and Clara smiled.

“I might be a child, but I read books a lot, and I also watch movies. My brother has never talked so much about a girl before, we don’t even know that Sophie existed in your friendship circle. You are the first female that ever visited our house. My brother likes you, and I hope you like him back.”

“Clara, what are you saying? Sage and I are just friends.”

“I know, but mum said it’s for now. You might end up being a couple later, I’m rooting for you.” Clara said, and they both laughed sarcastically.

“Lina, it’s getting late. I should give you a ride.” Sage said, joining them.

“Sage, I’ll ask the driver to give her a ride back, it’s getting late.” Mrs. Greenwood said from behind.

“Don’t stress, mum. I’ll do it.”

“It’s late, giving her a ride and driving back is not safe.”

“It’s fine, Sage. Thank you, ma’am, I’ll just board a taxi.” Paulina said.

“Even if you refuse, I insist.” Sage said, grabbing her hands, and dragging her away.

“Oh, bye, Clara, goodbye, ma’am.” She waved as he dragged her away.

“Bye, Lina.” Mother and daughter waved.
*
Mrs. Greenwood returned to the living room, and met her husband there.

“That Lina girl, she is cool but I can see behind her mask. That girl seems to be hiding something from.” Mr. Greenwood said.

“I believe I’m a better judge to that. She obviously has a tough life, and there is something she can’t share. I’m just glad she has Sage, at least we could trust our son to be a good friend to her.”

“If she will be distractions to him, then I’m against their friendship.”

“That rich… like he will ever listen to you.” She teased, and they both chuckled.
*
Sage drove in silence for a while, before breaking the silence.

“Mum, and Clara were a handful today, I’m sorry you had to tolerate them.”

“They were actually cool.”

“About the fishing, you don’t have to come. It’s nothing but boring to me.”

“I’ll think about it, because I actually love fishing.”

“It’s a shame that I never knew that.” He said, and she chuckled. “My dad… he must’ve made you feel really uncomfortable. That’s just how he is.”

“It’s fine. I expected your mum to be interrogative, but your dad took it up for her.”

“Mum might be a judge, but her judgement only ends within the courtroom.”

“Obviously.” She muttered, and he smiled.

“Before Clara entered my room earlier, you were going to yell me something about why you were crying on the phone earlier.” Sage said, and she looked at him.

“Errmm… it was nothing really.” She jitters.

“It was about some Mikey, was it Mike?” He shouted, and stepped on the brake immediately.

“Sage, you are diving, I’ll tell you about it later.” She said, and he nodded before he continued driving.

He pulled over at the nearest bus station, and looked at her.

“You should get a taxi from here.” He said, and she held his hand.

“I live at the Stanford’s mansion, so give me a ride home.” She said, and his face brightened.

“At your service.” He muttered all smiles, and drove off.

Micheal wasn’t himself after he dropped the call with Paulina, and he let out a sigh as he remembered the day event.

FLASHBACK***
*
Mike went back to look for her and saw her entering the restroom but the door got stuck when she was trying to come out. He contemplated before he went to the door, and saw where got stuck. She was delusional to think she got looked up that she didn’t even pull too hard, she was just barging the door all through.

He shakes his head mocking her naiveness when he saw Steven approaching him. He instantly knew that the others sent him.

“You guys can leave, I’ll follow. I’ve some funny business to attend to.” He said, and Steven gave him a look nodded before leaving -thankfully, he is Steven who can’t ask questions.

He enjoyed her barging for a while, and wanted to open the door but he rethink, with thoughts that he can just open it when she finally gave up, the he could appear like a knight to save her.

“What knight? I don’t even have my phone!” He shouted, and ran back to get his phone but the others left already. “Geez… couldn’t they have ask Steven to bring it to me?” He shouted. “How could I possibly leave my phone behind?” He lament before returning back.

He became really frustrated at the thoughts that even if he open the door, that wouldn’t still make him a knight because they would both be stranded together. He took his time to think before an idea popped in his mind.

“Yes, we could simply use her phone. She should have one at least.” He thought, and smiled happily. “I could just request for a helicopter to come pick us up, with that she would be indebted to me forever.” He smiled by his silly thoughts, and nodded already imagining how blissful the moment would be. “Paulina, and I, in a helicopter together.” He thought, and giggled by his thoughts.

He took his time outside, and went to open the door when he got tired of waiting.

FLASHBACK ENDS***
*
He turned and tossed on his bed, wondering how he beat to explain the situation to her, doubting if she would even believe him.

“You’ve no justification, Mike, you could have just open the door earlier.” He whined. “It simply means you locked her up.” He shouted, and started blaming himself.

He was still deep in thoughts, thinking of an escape when his secretary informed him to go to the dinning hall for dinner.

He went to freshen up wondering what his mother wanted to discuss. His father was out on a business trip, and it’s really unusual for his mother to request his presence.

He got to the dinning hall, and met her patiently waiting for him.

“Good evening, mum.” He greeted, and she responded with a smile.

“Have your seat.” She said, and he sat down. “Let’s enjoy dinner.” She added, and he nodded digging into his meal as he wondered what she wanted to discuss.

“Dinner is delicious, but I don’t have appetite.” He muttered, hoping she just say whatever she had to say, so he could request for dinner in his personal dinning.

“Too bad… I recently employed a new chef. She cooks so well like a chef who once served here years ago, even before you were born. My husband and I always enjoy her dishes, my husband never skips dinner no matter how tired he was, he would always run home immediately a trip ended, to enjoy the chef’s dishes. You should hey it, it should help boost your appetite.” She said, and he looked at her wondering what she was aiming at. “How is it?” She asked, and he looked at her.

“It’s good.”

“I expect more, I feel like our old chef returned. I’m sure my husband would gladly rush back if I tell him about this, but I won’t.” She said, and chuckled at her supposed joke. “Do you know why the chef left years ago even though she wa that good and we paid her well?”

“It was before I was born, so I can’t have an answer to that.”

“I don’t know either, I was just curious if you would know. She was a beautiful female chef, with gifted hands, u believe that got her a better offer, and she left, or maybe she has a more personal reason. Or could she be fired?”

“I don’t understand what you are getting at, ma’am.”

“I really careless about those below me, that’s the point. No matter how significant they might think they were, I careless about their existence. And I believe we are the same.”

“Let’s say that’s the only thing we have in common, ma’am.” He muttered, already bored of her chattering.

“Oh… but since we never see on same page, you try to change that.” She said, and he looked at her.

“I don’t understand.”

“You are growing too fond of a special scholar student, and I suddenly got interested in her.” She said, and he glared at her.

“Paulina did nothing wrong.” He blurted, trying to hide his fear.

“Paulina Andrew’s, 18-year-old special scholar. Her hubby is swimming, and she recently relocated from the countryside, but how come the name of the village seems awfully familiar, although I can’t remember it. I must’ve had a cheesy history there somehow.” She said, and Micheal stood up immediately.

“Don’t you dare hurt, Paulina.” He lashed, and she smiled before taking a bite from her meal.

“Is there something I missed?” She asked, and chuckled.

“Paulina did nothing wrong, I’m the one hovering around her.”

“Oh… so you are the one who broke your promise to me?” She shouted, and dropped her cutleries glaring at him.

“I didn’t forget my promise, I’m not looking at anything, and there is nothing special between Paulina and I. I had enough of you hurting those who are close to me.” He muttered.

“No, I never did such. I only made sure that you are surrounded with the right people, but I’m more interested now that you could speak at me to protect her. She must be one of the garbage you left behind.”

“Don’t ever lay a finger on Paulina.” He muttered, and turned to leave.

“Is that a threat? If you don’t want to do it the easy way by staying away from that peasant, then I would do it my way.” She threatened, and he left.
*
He gets his room and laid flat on his bed, remembering how she got rid of any lowlife he grew fond of. First it was his first nanny, he looked up to her as a mother figure, but she got fired the moment his mother noticed, next his driver, and the first friend he made when he was a child, a scholarship student in his school who was forced to transfer before he met his Austin and Stanley.

He think of the best way to protect Paulina from his mother, and also from Ava but nothing came to his mind.

HOLLAND HIGH^^^

Micheal got to school the following day, and Austin car drove in right after so he waited for Austin, and they both walked in together.

“Stan would be late, but I bet that Steven is already waiting in our suite.” Austin said.

“I’m not heading there.”

“What? Are we heading to class first?” Austin whined. “I should inform Steven.” He said, and started scrolling through his phone.

“Tell him to meet us by the elevator, I’m waiting for someone.”

“Who?” Austin asked. “Don’t tell me it’s miss scholar.” He shouted, but Micheal ignored him. “Mike, don’t tell me we’re really ding this.” He whined.

“Back off, if you won’t stop whining. My ears inch already.” Micheal blurted, and Austin cursed him quietly trailing behind him.

They stood by the elevator, and Austin let out a sigh as students queued in the other elevator because of them.

“What if she left already? We are scaring the students away?” Austin said.

“When do you start to care? If Stan was here, he would’ve confirmed where she was, but tiy do nothing but rant all through.” He blurted, and Austin composed himself.

They waited for a while, and saw Paulina heading their way with Sage.

“Her boyfriend is with her.” Austin said.

“He isn’t her boyfriend.” Micheal blurted, approaching them.

Sage saw him coming their way, so he held Paulina’s hand immediately, but Michael went to them and grabbed her other hand.

“We need to talk.” He said, and she forcefully freed herself from him.

“We were done talking on the phone yesterday.” She blurted.

“Even though I wasn’t guilty of the charges, I still had my faults, I’m sorry. Would you listen to me come with me now?” He asked, and Sage glared at him.

“She clearly asked you to leave.”

“You stay out of it!” Micheal blurted.

“I was wrong, Mike, I shouldn’t have thought of becoming close to you from the start.” She blurted.

“But it’s inevitable, you can begin it, but that doesn’t mean you can put an end to it. This is my world, and everything should work my way.” He muttered, and dragged her forcefully away from
Sage. “Remember, you promised to cooperate.” He whispered in Paulina’s ear

“Are you nut?” Sage shouted, and wanted to hit him but Micheal kissed Paulina , leaving Sage perplexed, and everyone around gasped.

Micheal made up his mind to protect her from his mother and Ava, he doesn’t know how kissing her will protect her, but he believed with that, no one in school will dare to lay a finger on her which includes Ava, and he would find a way to deal with his mother later, ignoring the promises he made to her – promise’s are either meant to be broken, or kept!
