◇ PROLOGUE ◇

Do you know what it feels like to have passion for something but not being able to pursue it because you lack the necessary skills? Have you ever experienced misfortunes that made you consider suicide as the only option?
This is how Devyn Han’s life was. Devyn is a 19-year-old who lives with her mother. Her father threw them out of the house because he was ashamed of his family. Devyn, once a pretty baby girl, suddenly turned into a monster that everyone h@tëd to see. Her father was abusive and took pleasure in inflicting pain on her and her mother.
Was it her fault that she lost her beauty because of an incident that happened when she was a child? An incident that caused her to lose both her beauty and her voice. The insult became too much, and Mr. Han had to throw them out of the house.
Devyn had always been passionate about music, but she couldn’t sing because she lost her voice. The funniest thing was that she could talk but couldn’t sing, which was her worst nightmare. Medically, nothing was wrong with her so the doctor concluded she had “ Phonatory dysphonia”, a condition that can make one talk but lose the ability to sing. Watching other people sing always made her weep, and she always thought of suicide when she remembered that she could never sing again.
Mrs. Han, her mother, had been a great help to her, advising her daughter and studying with her. Devyn stopped going to school since she was six years old after the incident. With pity for her mom, she decided to push through, not minding her situation. She was determined to go to a music school for training, thanks to her mom’s motivation and encouragement.
Her mom enrolled her in the best music school in Korea, which was Devyn’s dream school. Finally, she got into school, but that became the biggest mistake of her life.
What happens when the humiliation becomes too much from all angles of the school? Will she go ahead and commit suicide as she always wanted, or do you believe in miracles?

Devyn was starting to imagine herself performing on stage with a wide smile on her face.
Her imagination was caught short when she heard a familiar voice. Knowing who it was, she smiled.
” Hey Dev, I’m bored. Let’s play hide and seek ” Kelvin suggested as he approached her.
Kelvin had no friends and everyone h@tëd him in class except Devyn who decided to be friends with him.
They became best of friends and also had one thing in common… Passion for music.
” Or do you wanna sing instead?” He asked and she smiled again, her beautiful eyes sparkling.
Anyone would see she liked Kelvin a lot.
” Alright, Let’s play hide and seek then” She smiled and Kelvin returned it.
” You’ve got the voice of an angel.. has anyone ever told you that?” He asked as they both left class.
“Yeah… people tell me that a lot, but hearing it from you hits differently”
” Differently? How?”
” Don’t know… It just sounds… so-so?” She laughed and he smiled.
” I wish to become a superstar one-day” She added.
” I’m sure you’ll make it ” He assured.
“Your voice is so cool too, I mean if your voice is this deep when you’re just 9, then imagine how cool it’ll be when you’re older… I’m kinda jealous ” Devyn pouted and he laughed.
“I like you… ” He said and she looked at him.
“What did you say?” She asked cluelessly.
“Oh! nothing, let’s play hide and seek. You should go hide okay? I’ll find you” He said.
“Since you brought the idea, I think you should do it while I look for you” She replied. Not wanting to argue about it, Kelvin went into hiding while Devyn closed her eyes.
After closing her eyes for thirty seconds, she opened it and started searching for him.
Four minutes into the search, she still couldn’t find him.
” Where did he go?”She frowned.
” Kelvin!” She shouted but he didn’t reply. She kept calling his name as she went to a restricted class thinking he’ll be there.
She got in unnoticed, but still couldn’t find Kelvin. She sighed tiredly and made to leave, but her fist accidentally hit a rod that was supporting a glass bottle and the bottle fell to the ground, shattering into tiny pieces.
” What’s this?” She stared at the liquid from the glass which was now on the ground and made to gently take a step, but she stumbled on something, making her fall directly into the smeared liquid.
A loud agonizing cry followed.
She fell on acid which left her one-side cheek burnt down to her neck region, giving her a terrible look

” Devyn…” Her mom tapped her, bringing her back to reality.
” Is everything okay, honey?” She asked, and Devyn smiled.
“I’m fine Mom… I’ll be in my room ” She stood up and started leaving.
“When will she stop thinking about it? It’s been 13 years already” Cecilia sighed, staring at Devyn who closed her door with a loud bang.
She got on her bed and clutched her knees together, doing what has been a part of her for a while now.
Silent cries.
If only she hadn’t gone to the restricted part of the school, then her life wouldn’t have been this pathetic. Their school wouldn’t have been closed down and she’d be cheerful like every teenager her age.
That was how the life she never wished for started. She couldn’t go out, have friends, or do any part-time job because she’s been mocked.
Everywhere she went, her peers took it to themselves to make mockery of her. Her once-loving dad hasn’t contacted them for once after sending the out one cold night.
Why was her life miserable? Why can’t she be like everyone else? Why did she have to lose the two things she cherished the most? She could still cope with losing her beauty, but why her voice?
She held her pillow tightly as she sobbed silently.

∆∆ NEXT MORNING
Devyn woke up as early as possible and the first thing she did was take her music note cause she had a song idea in mind.
She was still jotting them down when her door opened, and her mom walked in.
Cecilia walked to her daughter and pecked her hair.
” joeun achimimnida, eomma (Good morning, mom )” Devyn smiled.
” What is my little angel doing?” She asked.
” Writing a song .. “just for you” ” She replied.
Cecilia smiled and took the notes from her, going through the lyrics.
She began shaking her head as if she could hear the song. After few minutes, she dropped the notes and cupped Devyn’s face in her hand.
” I believe you would go places.. the doctor said you’ll be fine, so don’t worry okay?” Cecilia said and she let out a smile.
She just had to believe her mom’s lie ’cause she had listened to her mom’s conversation with the doctor and the doctor made it known she might never get her voice back, but her mom was doing a good job of giving her unnecessary hope which she’s decided to hold on to.
She was hoping a miracle would happen and she’ll get her voice back.
” Don’t worry Mom, my dream of becoming a superstar is still valid” She hugged her mom who began stroking her hair gently.
” Breakfast is ready” Her mom said and she nodded. She quickly went to the bathroom to do her thing while her mom left the room.
She left the room after she was done too and settled for breakfast.
” This looks good, Mom” She smiled and started eating.
Cecilia just watch her eat.
” What is it, Mom? Do I look too ugly? Should I just put on makeup?” She asked, but her mom shook her head.
” Neo yeppeuda ( You’re pretty )” She replied and Devyn chuckled.
Her hair and makeup have been doing a great job of hiding her damaged face and neck but for how long would she continue being that way?
” I have good news for you, baby” Cecilia announced.
“I wonder what the good news is all about” Devyn sighed, picking on her food.
No good news has ever been good.
The last good news was about her mom getting a job, but not long after, she was sacked so how was that good news?
” As of tomorrow, you’ll be attending CAMP HIGH MUSIC SCHOOL” Her mom announced and the chopsticks in her hands fell.
” You must be kidding me, mom!” She said with dilated eyes.
“I’m serious baby” Cecilia replied with a smile and Devyn covered her mouth in awe.
Does that mean she’ll get a chance to see the MARVINS? She’s gonna see Maikel too?
” OMG!!” She shrieked in excitement, but suddenly stopped.
How would she go to a music school when she doesn’t even have a voice? Will Maikel see her to be pretty? Will he even look at her?
The MARVINS consist of seven hotties who got their band name according to the first letter of their real names. The most popular boy band in CAMP HIGH MUSIC SCHOOL.
Maikel, Alistair, Rema, Valerie, Ian, Nash, and Sweetheart… M. A. R. V. I. N. S.
Maikel has always been her crush right from the day she first watched them on TV.
Her mom noticed her sudden change of mood and held her.
” Are you okay, Devyn?”
” How can I be, Mom… I’m 19 and couldn’t get into College because I stopped schooling after the incident. You brought me good news, but how do I go there looking like a zombie?” She shook her head with tears in her eyes before rushing to her room.
” Baby…” Cecilia ran to her door but it was locked already.
” My baby… You don’t need to feel bad okay? You know you’re the prettiest being on earth Right? I know you admire Maikel a lot cause you always listen to their music, but I assure you, true friends will always stay by you no matter how you look and they’ll love you no matter what.. just believe in yourself cause I know you can make it ” She said in tears, but Devyn didn’t reply as all she did is cry.
The day went by in a blur and she never left her room till the next day.

⟨‹ NEXT MORNING ~ CAMP HIGH MUSIC SCHOOL.
Devyn packed her hair sideways, covering her damaged face. Even though she applied make-up, her burnt face was still visible a bit when one gets close to her.
She breathed out as she walked into the school premises. The students she came across kept staring at her weirdly as she walked past them.
Four exotic cars passed by and fortunately for Devyn, it diverted the students’ attention from her.
” It’s SUNSHINE” A girl screamed and the guys’ mouths went agape upon seeing the four beauty goddesses who left their cars in their well-fitted uniforms.
SUNSHINE consists of four demi goddesses. GEMMA, HONESTY, BELINDA, and EMERALD. They are known for their rudeness and arrogance, especially Gemma and Honesty. They’re not the best girl group in CAMP HIGH MUSIC SCHOOL, ’cause BEAUTIES was still leading them, hence the hatred between the two girl groups.
BEAUTIES consists of four beauties too. ELVIRA AND ELVIRE… They’re twins with two different personalities.
ELVIRE was calmer than her twin who was crazy and hot-tempered.
Then, HARRIET and ZORA, with Harriet being the band leader.
MARVINS had no time for h@të but they were quite rüdë too towards the girl bands.
Devyn looked at them and truly they were the pure definition of beautiful. Looking at them only made her feel inferior.
How she wished her face wasn’t damaged, then she’d have been flaunting her hair too.
She sighed sadly as she raised her head. Coincidentally, she locked gaze with Gemma who stared at her irritatingly. Devyn bent her head, wondering why the girl was throwing her h@tëful glares.
She brushed the thought away and made to walk further when another scream erupted from the students.
BEAUTIES!!
Gemma rolled her eyes when her eyes landed on Zora.
These two’s hatred for each other knows no limit and to make matters worst, they both liked Maikel.
Zora flaunted her hair backwards as her other friends left their cars.
The two girl bands kept glaring at each other.
” This is one of the reasons you guys can’t beat us… you should learn to greet your seniors” Zora said to Gemma’s face.
Gemma wanted to talk back, but she smiled instead when she sighted Maikel. Zora traced her eyes and she smiled too when she saw Maikel.
” It’s Maikel!” Someone screamed and Devyn’s eyes widened as she quickly turned to look at him.
The first person Maikel saw when he looked up was Devyn. They locked gaze and her heart started racing.
Devyn kept staring at him and he didn’t break the eye contact either.
She was seeing her crush for the first time and was even locking gaze with him, so you’d know how special she felt.
Gemma and Zora traced Maikel’s eyes and when they realized it was on Devyn, they balled their fists.
Maikel tore his gaze away and put on his headphone ’cause he didn’t want to hear the ceaseless noise of the students. He placed his hands in his pocket and left them.
Gemma took long predatory steps toward Devyn and held her hair, pulling it hard.
” W-what did I do?” Devyn asked with a stutter as she winced but a deafening slap landed on her cheeks which made her eyes glisten with tears. She held her cheek while covering her face so the she-devil Infront of her wouldn’t see the burnt part.
The other students left for their classes so they wouldn’t be Gemam’s prey ’cause she was the craziest and the most wicked in their band, then Honesty.
Tears left Devyn eyes as she kept wincing gently.
” Belinda ” Gemma called.
” What? Expecting me to start clapping for you?” Belinda rolled her eyes while Emerald sighed.
She knows Gemma too well, she wouldn’t just leave the matter that way and she’s the eldest among them.
” Get me scissors… I need to plug out her eyes” Gemma said but Belinda didn’t budge, so honesty did it instead.
Harriet just shook her head since she didn’t want to get involved with SUNSHINE.
” This will be fun” Elvira grinned while Elvire faced her.
” You devil’s bride ” Elvire glared at her sister.
“I like stuff like this, and I’m sure Zora wouldn’t let her go scot-free after Gemma is done with her” Elvira chuckled evilly.
Gemma collected the scissors from Honesty who was smiling.
” What do you wanna do to me?” Devyn cried
“I wanna make you blind so you would never use these ugly eyes of yours to stare at my Maikel” Gemma said as she brought down her hands in full force. Devyn screamed, closing her eyes and expecting the worst.
She couldn’t cry too much cause she never wanted her makeup to get ruined so they wouldn’t see how ugly she looked. At least not today! They shouldn’t know how ugly she is on her first day in school.
Just few inches away for the scissors to reach Devyn’s eye, someone held Gemma’s hands and she turned swiftly to look at the person with an angry expression but her face softened instead.
” Maikel!” She called, surprised and he forcefully pulled her away from Devyn.
She ( Gemma ) staggered backwards, but luckily she didn’t fall.
” How can Maikel protect such a girl?” Zora muttered, balling her fist tightly.
Maikel faced Devyn and her heart started palpitating again. She was supposed to be crying right? But it was the opposite, she was happy.
Standing face to face with the crush you only see on TV was a dream come true for her.
” I’ve told you being wicked will only make your band always come third, Gemma. The day you decide to have sense, then be ready to beat BEAUTIES ” He said.
“Beat us, my àss” Harriet scoffed.
Maikel ignored her and faced Devyn.
” Are you okay?” He asked and she nodded gently. He took his hands to her hair, caressing it gently.
” Maikel!!”Zora screamed out of rage.
” Who’s that untamed dog?” He faced Zora before facing Harriet with a frown.
” Harriet, what are you teaching your band members?” He asked and Harriet balled her fist tightly.
” As a leader, lead well and stop your obsessed band members from hurting innocent people because they’re totally not my style” He said and Zora’s mouth dropped open.
Gemma looked at Devyn with disdain.
Her anger could literally cause an earthquake, but she balled her fist tightly to prevent herself from blowing up Infront of Maikel.
They couldn’t believe he was saying that because of the new girl who looked artificial because of the make-up.
” Bye… ” Maikel waved at Devyn who still stood dumbfounded.
” I won’t let this slide” Zora made to attack Devyn, but Harriet held her back.
” Let me go!!”
” Move a step and you’re out of the band” Harriet said seriously, angry at Maikel for questioning her leadership.
” What!” Zora exclaimed, shocked.
