Yeomra hesitated, which seemed to annoy Blueberry. He sighed and shoved his hands into his pockets, scanning the area until his gaze settled on a peculiar structure that resembled an altar, although not quite.

With a smirk, he quickly dashed toward it, ready to destroy it, even though he had no idea what it was. Yeomra’s eyes widened.

β€œWhat do you think you’re doing?” she exclaimed.

β€œSeems like wh@tΓ«ver this is, it’s pretty important. Let’s find out,” Blueberry retorted, his smirk unwavering as he prepared to smash it. Just as he was about to strike, Yeomra screamed, causing him to halt and face her.

β€œNow I’m curious to see what’s in there,” he muttered, staring intently at the object. Suddenly, his gaze landed on a box at its center. Before he could examine it further, Yeomra unleashed Mu Yul.

β€œYou can leave,” she shouted, while Blueberry stood up and walked over to Mu Yul.

β€œSorry if I messed with you,” He said, flashing Yeomra a smile, to which she responded with an eye roll.

Blueberry held Mu Yul and led him out of the place. How he managed to enter the underworld was a mystery to himself as well.

When they finally returned to the land of the living, Blueberry released his grip on Mu Yul, who stared at him. Blueberry avoided his gaze.

β€œDon’t give me that look. I didn’t save you, okay? I just wanted you to keep your promises,” he said, while Mu Yul chuckled.

β€œYour ego won’t even admit it, but thank you, friend,” Mu Yul replied as they walked down the road. They decided not to go to school, and Mu Yul took Blueberry to his apartment.

β€œYou were serious when you said you had a place to stay? I thought grim reapers didn’t do all this. Your Yeomra really likes you,” Blueberry muttered, taking a seat on the bed and bouncing on it.

β€œHmm… she’s always love me, but not until I stole the β€˜ sword of hell’ to help those kids,” Mu Yul replied, sitting down next to him.

β€œAt least now I have someone who showed up as a friend. I only came to the human world to take souls without revealing myself. But this time, I’m glad I did, and I’m also glad I made a friend like you.”

β€œCut the crap. I’m not your friend,” Blueberry said, resting his head on the bed. Mu Yul did the same as they stared at nothing in particular.

β˜…

β€œHey Kelvin, what are you singing?” Devyn, drawn by the melody Kelvin was singing, asked as she approached him. Kelvin was the type of kid who had no friends until Devyn decided to stay with him.

These two grew fond of each other and developed feelings for each other, but neither of them opened up about it.

β€œMy mom… It was a song Dad sang to her on their wedding… Why?”

β€œI love it. Will you teach me too?” She asked, while Kelvin nodded. He held Devyn’s hand and took her to their music hall.

β€œI don’t know how to play the piano that well, though. Mom was so busy, so I couldn’t take classes like I used to,” Kelvin said, and she nodded with a smile.

He started playing the melody while Devyn shook her head, following the flow of the song. When Kelvin finished playing, she gave him a thumbs up.

β€œI’m jealous. You have a mom who teaches you how to play, while my mom knows nothing about the instrument,” Devyn pouted as they walked out of the hall.

β€œI’ll teach you the song tomorrow, okay? Mom composed it, and apart from her, just the two of us will know about it,” Kelvin said.

β€œPromise?” she asked, bringing her finger for a pinky promise, which Kelvin took.

β€œPromise,” he smiled, staring at Devyn, who laughed cutely. He smiled too.

Days passed, and their friendship grew even stronger. They were always there for one another, ate together, played together, and even sneaked out of the house just to see each other. They did so many good things together.

Their parents were aware that their kids were attracted to each other, but everything changed after a hide-and-seek game between the kids, which resulted in their school being shut down.

β˜…

BACK TO THE PRESENT

β€œAre you perhaps… Devyn Han?” he asked, as if his brain had shattered and he was just trying to gather the pieces together.

β€œAm I Devyn Han? Really, Kelvin? Or should I say Valerie? Where the hell did you run off to 13 years ago, huh?” she retorted. Her voice held a mixture of anger and curiosity. There was no denying itβ€”Valerie was standing in front of her childhood crush.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he blinked back the emotions. β€œDevyn,” he called out calmly.

β€œI just need an answer, and I really don’t care anymore. I’ve lived my life in hiding, but I’m glad I’m doing well. I just want to know where you ran off to during the incident and why you didn’t even come to check on me when I was admitted,” she said, taking a few steps backwards.

Valerie sighed, as he stared at Devyn for a long moment. β€œI was kidnapped,” he finally confessed. β€œI heard you scream that day, and in fear, I followed your voice, which led me to that restricted area. I don’t know what happened after that, cos I suddenly woke up from sleep and found myself in an unfamiliar environment.”

β€œI don’t know if you’ll believe me, but after I managed to escape a few days later, I heard about the school closure. I went to your house, hoping to find you at your window, but your neighbor told me that you and your mom had been kicked out of the house. I searched for you but couldn’t find you. Did you grow up thinking I ran off after that day?” he asked, a mix of pain and hope in his voice.

β€œNot only that, but that you caused the incident. If you hadn’t suggested that game, none of this would have happened. Did you know that after the incident, my dad h@tΓ«d me? My own dad even called me a monster, claiming that I was ruining his image,” Devyn shouted, her voice choked with tears.

β€œHow I wish I had never heard this song today because, even with your explanation, and with what I went through, I still h@tΓ« you, Kelvin,” Devyn said, tears streaming down her face. Her mind drifted back to that snowy night when her dad beat up her mom and then chased them out of their house. Since then, life hadn’t been easy for her and her mom.

Valerie stared at her, speechless. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of happiness seeing the girl who had stolen his heart as a kid, and he had never dated anyone since then, waiting in hope for Devyn to show up.

Now that she had, he couldn’t believe he hadn’t recognized her, not even by her name. What had he expected when he believed some names were just coincidences?

Kelvin was the name his grandma had given him, while Valerie was the name his mom called him. He had stopped answering to the name Kelvin the day his grandma died, and even his mom had stopped calling him that until he got used to Valerie.

β€œI’ll pretend this day never happened,” Devyn sniffed and started to leave, but he caught up with her and hugged her from behind.

β€œDon’t leave yet, just a few more seconds,” he pleaded, tears streaming down his face. Devyn wasn’t even bothered by his tears as she tried to free herself.

β€œMom wants me to leave the group because of the incident with Nash. I’m sure Maikel and the others received the same news, and that’s why there’s such a calm atmosphere today,” he said, and Devyn stopped struggling.

β€œHuh?”

β€œSo please, just a few minutes, and then you can choose to walk away or stay,” Valerie muttered, tears streaming down his face. Devyn stood there until Valerie released her. She turned slowly to stare at him.

β€œWhat do you mean?”

β€œThanks for the comfort,” he said and began to leave but stopped at the door.

β€œI’m sorry for everything that happened that day,” He said and finally left the hall. Devyn wiped away her tears, removing her makeup in the process.

β€œOh no, how do I go out?” she muttered and used her hair to cover her face properly.

β€œI wish I could get my face back, gosh,” she muttered and left the hall, holding her hair in place so it wouldn’t reveal the burnt spot on her face as she headed to class.

β˜…

β€œYou lazy human… How could you not even do a simple job?” Mr. Robinson heard a voice in his head as he stared at his severed hand.

” Well, you did a great job while I was in your body. But now, I’m injured and need to hide for the time being. But I’ll surely be back… back to get my revenge on these humans!” The spirit laughed, finally leaving Mr. Robinson’s body. Immediately after the spirit departed, Mr. Robinson coughed up blood.

He fell to his knees and reached for his phone, but he wasn’t able to make a call before taking his last breath.

β˜…

Valerie sat down with Nash, who noticed that his lashes were wet.

β€œDid you cry?” Nash asked, looking at Valerie, who nodded.

β€œWhy? Did someone hurt my baby?” Nash held his face and he chuckled.

β€œI saw someone I never thought I’d see,” He replied, glancing at Maikel, who smiled at him.

β€œWhy don’t we go home? I feel suffocated in here,” He said again.

β€œIs there something you’re trying to hide from us?” Sweetheart asked, but Valerie shook his head and stood up. Nash did the same, signaling to Maikel, who understood. The seven boys left the classroom, leaving the girls wondering what had happened to them.

The boys arrived home, and Valerie stared at each of them one by one.

β€œI can sense the silence, but starting tomorrow, we’re going to decide whether MARVINS stays or not. So there’s no need to be downcasted. I’ll be in my room,” Valerie added, then left for his room. The boys exchanged glances.

β€œDid your mom or dad tell you to leave the group?” Nash faced Maikel, and he nodded slightly.

β€œMy mom said I’ll be going to the US tomorrow,” Alistair spoke up.

β€œMy dad said I’ll be changing schools,” Rema said.

β€œSame here, but that won’t happen anyway,” Nash replied, and they all turned to Ian and Sweetheart.

β€œGrandma knows nothing about this, but it’s surely going to make her sad if MARVINS cease to exist,” Ian replied.

β€œMom and Dad said I should come over tonight, but I don’t think they even know their son,” Sweetheart chuckled.

β€œYou need to go see your parents, just like Valerie said. Tomorrow will determine if the name MARVINS still stands,” Maikel said, and went to his room.

β€œGosh, why did our parents decide to spoil our mood? Or are they possessed?” Rema wondered aloud, as he sat down. Sweetheart had a sad face on. As the only child of his parents, the people who showed him love and acted like brothers to him were the friends he was living with.

He couldn’t even imagine a life without them. Would they all go their separate ways? No, he needed to talk some sense into his parents, he thought, before heading to his room.

β˜…

Blueberry got out of bed and faced Mu Yul, who sat upright too.

β€œI’ll head home now, and as for the amusement park, let’s go there another time,” he said, and Mu Yul nodded.

β€œThanks, buddy,” Mu Yul smiled, but Blueberry frowned. Mu Yul quickly understood, and his face returned to normal.

β€œThat’s better,” Blueberry nodded and headed to the door. Mu Yul waved gently at him as he watched him leave.

He lay back on his bed, his eyes staring at nothing in particular as he tried to remember his past, but he couldn’t, no matter how hard he tried.

β€œMu Yul, why were you in a dark room crying? Who locked you up and why?” he wondered and closed his eyes.

β€œYou bastard,” the word suddenly echoed in his head, and he groaned in pain.

” Arghh!!” he winced, holding his head to suppress the pain.

β˜…

Miss Rachel visited the beginner class and taught them a few basics of music. Devyn’s mind was far off, still preoccupied with what Valerie had told her about the boys separating.

All the lecturers fell on deaf ears until Miss Rachel finished her class. Lesley, who noticed Devyn’s distraction, had to tap her to bring her back to her senses.

β€œHuh?”

β€œYou’ve been down ever since you went to see MARVINS. Didn’t you see them?” she asked.

β€œOh, no. I ended up seeing Kel… I mean Valerie,” Devyn replied with an awkward smile, and Lesley nodded in understanding.

A gasp escaped Miss Rachel’s mouth, and all the students turned to face her.

β€œMr. Robinson, the director, died in his mansion. His hand was chopped off, and he was stabbed, or should I say, slashed in the stomach?” Miss Rachel revealed, causing the students’ eyes to widen.

β€œHuh?” Devyn exclaimed.

β€œHis burial will be tomorrow,” Rachel continued, then addressed the students. β€œThe principal will release the address of the deceased. I hope we all can attend his final goodbye.”

β€œAt this rate, I’ll dismiss the class,” She said abruptly and hurriedly left the room. The news came as a shock, but who could have killed Mr. Robinson? The question remained unanswered.

β€œBerry didn’t come to school?” Devyn wondered aloud as she and Lesley left the classroom together.

********

Blueberry ate from a cup of yoghurt as he watched the news.

β€œSo, the director was the host of the evil man? Does that mean the β€˜sword of hell’ didn’t work on that fool?” He asked, dropping the cup of yogurt.

β€œIf it didn’t kill him, it means he survived but is weak. He’ll go into hiding, and when he fully recovers, he’ll find a new host?” His eyes widened.

β€œThen the rate at which the innocent will die will increase greatly? Nah, not when I’m still amidst these humans,” He said, as he stared at the TV. However, his attention was drawn away when the door burst open.

β€œBerry, have you been home all this time?”

β€œNah, I went to see Mu Yul,” he replied, while Devyn went to him and sat next to him.

β€œWhat happened when you were with MARVINS? I heard they wanna go separate ways,” Devyn asked.

β€œHow would I know that? Only they know what they saw, and it’s none of my business what they do. I only went there to help them out,” He replied nonchalantly.

β€œTch,” Devyn scoffed, folding her arms below her chest. Blueberry didn’t look at her as his eyes were fixed on the TV.

β˜…

In their respective houses, the boys all stood in front of their parents since they had left their residences to go see them.

They wanted to convince their parents about the idea of leaving the group, but their words seemed to fall on deaf ears.

β€œI’ve told you, you’re quitting that group, and nothing can be changed about that.”

β€œI can’t watch my only son being attacked…” The boys all raised their heads coincidentally to stare at their parents with widened eyes.
