Chapter 4
Daphne grew worried after checking the time for the umpteenth time and Kiara had still not arrived yet.
She sighed before bringing out her phone to dial
Kiara’s number.
“Hey Daphne”She heard Kiara’s voice.
“Why aren’t you at work yet? Natasha is here already” She said before gasping “Don’t tell me I was right about everything I said last night about Natasha. She didn’t put you in a cage did she?”
“What?No”Kiara replied
“Then why aren’t you at work?”Daphne asked
“Natasha asked me not to come to the supermarket”
“Why?”
“I’ll tell you about it tomorrow,I promise”
“Seriously?”Daphne rolled her eyes.
“Let’s meet tomorrow,nine pm”
“Where?”
“Our usual spot”
“I wonder why you can’t tell me today but fine, let’s meet tomorrow”Daphne ended the call and smiled afterwards.
Kiara got herself a pair of sneakers, completing her dressing before grabbing her backpack and and then left her room.
She met Natasha waiting outside of her room
“Ready for your first day?”Natasha grinned
Kiara nodded.
“Good. A taxi is waiting for you outside”
Kiara smiled before she began walking away.
“Make me proud” Natasha shouted after her.
Kiara came out of the taxi and found herself standing in front of an extremely tall and large building.
It had the words ‘TECH BUILDERS’ written at the top.
Kiara smiled as she walked in.
She found her way through the large lobby to the CEO’S office after getting help from the receptionist.
Two desks stood a few feet away,facing each other in front of the CEO’S office.
One was empty while the other was occupied by a young man who stood up and walked to her with a smile immediately he saw her.
“Hi”Kiara said.
“You must be Kiara”He said “Kiara Clark”
“Yes”She nodded.
“I’m Ken,Mr Erik’s secretary”He stretched out his hand for a handshake.
She took his hand “Nice to meet you”She said
Ken smiled.
“So,you must be very close to Carly for her to have recommended you to be Mr Erik’s new assistant” Ken said
“Carly?”She asked.
“Mr Erik’s last assistant,your friend”Ken said.
“Oh,yeah,right”She lied.
“She sent me an email saying she would no longer be able to work as Mr Erik’s assistant again and to save me the trouble of having to look for a new assistant,she recommended you”
“Yeah, how nice of her. She’s a really good friend”Kiara smiled.
“Any idea why she quitted?”
“She um…Had some issues to take care of”
“Oh”
“Yeah”Kiara said, nodding.
“Come with me”Ken said, leading the way to the CEO’S office which was just a few feet away.
Kiara followed behind.
They entered the large office and Kiara couldn’t help but look round the spacious office.
The right side of the office was occupied by two black couches with a table in the middle and a flower vase sat beautifully on it.
Behind the couches was a glass shelf, occupied by awards and trophies. A coffee maker was situated at the right corner of the office.
Her eyes finally settled on the CEO who was seated behind the only desk in the office.
He was dressed in a perfectly tailored dark blue suit and had a medium length jet black hair which was neatly swept to the back but a few strands laid across his forehead,making contact with his right eyebrow.
He was on a phone call and was looking down at his desk.
Kiara and Ken waited in front of his desk, waiting for him to end his phone call and when he finally did,a pair of striking hazel eyes fell on Kiara.
He ran his eyes down and up at the petite lady in front of him who seemed to have the same eye color as his.
Hers looked looked luminous and her almond shaped eyes and bright smile added to the comeliness but he made sure not to let his face expression show he was in admiration or impressed of the beauty in front of him so he kept a blank expression instead.
“Mr Erik, this is Kiara Clark,your new personal assistant”Ken introduced.
Kiara nodded and looked at him, waiting for him to say something but she noticed his eyes were on her backpack and with the look on his face,he didn’t seem impressed by it.
She cleared her throat awkwardly and that made him look at her face.
“I’m sure you already know my name, there’s no need to introduce myself”He finally spoke “Or is there?”He asked
“No,of course not. Mr Erik. Got it”She nodded.
“Ken,show her around and also let her know what she’s required to do as my personal assistant” He said to Ken but his eyes were still on Kiara.
Kiara looked at Ken, avoiding his cold stare.
“Yes sir”Ken said “Let’s go”He said to Kiara with a smile.
They both began walking out of Erik’s office but they stopped when they heard his voice.
“Oh and…”He said, staring at Kiara. “Try to work on your dressing,I don’t want people thinking I kidnapped an highschool student and forced her to work as my assistant”He said.
Kiara looked down at her clothes.
She was putting on a cream colored top over a flare skirt and had a jacket on.
She raised her head to look at Erik.
“Yes sir”She said quietly and put on a fake smile which disappeared as soon as she turned,leaving his office with Ken.
Couldn’t he have said it in a nice way? Talk about being brutally honest.
She muttered in her head.
“He’s not always like that”Ken said when they got outside of Erik’s office”He’s actually a really great boss”
“Really?”Kiara asked
“Yeah,as long as you don’t piss him off”Ken said. “And…I think your outfit is pretty though. Your backpack too”He smiled at her.
“”Thanks”Kiara smiled.
Ken seemed like a nice and friendly guy.
“So,Mr Erik said you were going to let me know what I’m required to do as his personal assistant?”
“Yeah”Ken nodded.
“So, first, that’s your desk”He pointed at the desk she had met empty when she first arrived at the office. “Our desks are close because our jobs are kind of related”He said.”You’re to prepare Mr Erik’s daily schedule and show it to him every morning after he arrives at his office, I’ll teach you how you’re going to do it and you’re to assist him with anything he needs and also go with him to meetings where he’s going to require your assistance”
“Okay…”She nodded “is that all?”
“Not really but I’ll let you know the rest after I show
you around. I won’t be showing you everywhere round the company though,just places I think you ought to know so you don’t have issues in carrying out your duties”He said.
She nodded.
“Come on”He smiled at her and led the way the elevator.
“So,the first place I’ll be showing you is the lab”Ken said after they got into the elevator.
“The lab?”
“Yeah, the laboratory where our company’s techs are produced and also where our scientific researches are carried out”He said “I call it the tech room”He grinned.
She chuckled.
The elevator opened, revealing a large room equipped with all sorts of technological gadgets.
Large monitors were in different corners of the room and the lights in the room were blue mostly as a result of the lights coming from the monitors in the room both large and small.
All the people in the room except her and Ken were dressed in lab coats.
“Wow”She muttered and smiled as she looked around in admiration.
She walked further into the room.
Her smile disappeared when she sighted someone familiar.
Someone she had always hoped she wouldn’t meet again.
But she was seeing his face again and a feeling of annoyance welled up in her.
