Chapter 27
°°MINUTES LATER°°
Ken looked up at Kiara as she walked into the office.
“Did the meeting go well?”He asked Kiara who was busy looking into Erik’s office.
She sighed when she saw Erik wasn’t in it.
“Are you okay?”Ken asked, seeing the look on her face.
Kiara sat on her chair.
“And,why didn’t Mr Erik come with you?” He asked.
“He’s probably home by now”She muttered with a sigh.
“What? Why? He still has to meet with the shareholders today, right?”
She nodded.
“Did something happen? Wait,did something go wrong between him and Miss lvy?”He asked.
Kiara looked at him before slowly nodding.
Ken sighed.
“Was it a phone call this time around or she showed up and then left like she always does?”He asked.
“Um…Sadly,none”She muttered.
“Really?”
She nodded.
“What happened then?”
Kiara folded her lips.
“They broke up”She said.
“Oh”He mouthed “That’s…Mr Erik must be feeling really hurt right know”He said with concern.
“Yeah” Kiara muttered, remembering the look on Erik’s face before he left with his car.
Erik sat under a tree, resting his back against it with his right knee lightly raised.
It’s funny and strange how the first place he thought of to come was the garden and not his house. He’s been there since he left the restaurant.
His eyes were still red with tears. He felt betrayed, sad,weak,hurt and stupid. How could he have been dating Ivy for over a year without suspecting that she could be cheating on him? Maybe it was because he didn’t want to lose her, knowing he would end up being lonely again if he did.
But,he actually did care for her and did everything he could to keep their relationship alive and what he feared would happen eventually did happen. And the hurt he was feeling presently wasn’t just as a result of the breakup but also as a result of the words she said to him.
He blinked and looked up, trying to stop his tears from falling.
Kiara laid on her bed, staring at the screen of her phone. She’s been staring at it all day – Literally.
“Why isn’t he calling?”She muttered worriedly. “He said he’d call me whenever he was feeling down. I can tell he’s feeling more than down right now”She sighed.
She kept staring at her phone for minutes and like she had been expecting,his call finally came in on her phone.
She picked up immediately.
“Hey”She heard him say quietly at the other end. “Can you come meet me? I’m at the garden”He said.

Erik stood after his phone call with Kiara and went to stay at a part of the where she could easily find him and not long after,he saw Kiara stand in front of him,a few steps away.
Kiara paused when she saw him. His eyes looked heavy and red. She sighed before slowly walking to him.
He gave her a short and sad smile.
A few seconds later and they were both sitting beside each other under the tree Erik had earlier sat.
“Are you okay?”She asked in a quiet but soft voice while looking at him.
Erik swallowed a lump that formed in his throat and bit his lower lip.
“I feel so stupid”He muttered.
Kiara looked at him.
“I…”He sighed “I should have seen this coming,I just chose to ignore it”He said, looking down as his eyes became teary.
“You loved her, that’s why you chose to ignore her faults”Kiara said “And it’s totally okay and normal to feel what you’re feeling right now. Hurt,sad… It’s totally okay”She said and he turned to look at her “We all feel it. It’s painful but…” She exhaled “I’m sorry, I’m not good at pep talk, I’m not making you hurt more,am I ?”
“No,I understand what you’re trying to say”He nodded.
She smiled.
“I lost my parents in a car accident when I was fifteen years old”He suddenly said “And at eighteen,my younger sister died in a fire accident”
“I’m sorry”Kiara muttered,her eyes suddenly becoming teary. She had no idea he’s gone through a lot.
“Ivy was right about me being left by the people I care about”He said.
“She’s not. She was just saying that to make herself feel better about what she did to you”
“Maybe,maybe not”He said.
Kiara stared at him.
“Is that the reason you have that painting? Because you feel it’s a depiction of your life?”She asked.
He looked at her.
“You shouldn’t see yourself that way or believe what Miss lvy said. Whether you realize it or not,you have people who care about you. You have Mr Nathan,Ken…”She paused “Me,you have me also”She nodded “And I’m sure you’ll get to meet other people who will care about you so you should stop seeing yourself that way”She said.
He bit his lower lip, looking down.
“Do you wanna have a drink?”She asked after minutes of silence.
He looked at her.
“It’ll help ease your mind. I know a good place”She said.
A coffee shop”Erik said, reading the sign in front of the coffee shop.
She nodded.
They went in and sat at a table.
“You said we were going to have a drink. I didn’t realize you meant coffee”
“Why? You thought I meant alcohol?” She asked “I don’t drink” She said innocently and he chuckled.
“You’re smiling”She smiled “You’ll smile even more when you taste the coffee. The coffees here are amazing”She grinned cheerfully,hoping her cheerfulness would raise his low spirit.
She stood and went to get their coffees.
Erik smiled a little.
He already knew the sadness and hurt he was feeling would reduce once Kiara was around him.
She came a few minutes later with two coffees in her hands and placed one in front of him before going to sit back on her chair.
She watched in anticipation as he raised the cup to his mouth and took a sip.
“So, how’s it?”She asked.
“Tastes good” He nodded, taking another sip.
She smiled.
“Is this another one of your favorite places?”He asked.
“It’s actually me and my best friend’s. It’s our favorite coffee spot”She smiled.
“You have a lot of favorite places”He said.
“You don’t?”She asked.
He shrugged.
The door to the coffee shop opened and Daphne walked in.
She headed for the counter immediately and went to get herself a coffee. She made to walk to a table after getting her coffee but stopped when she sighted Kiara.
She smiled, walking to meet her but later raised a brow when she saw someone was seated with her.
“Daphne”Kiara smiled when she saw her.
“You didn’t tell me you were coming here today” Daphne frowned “We’d have come together. Instead you chose to come with…”She turned to look at Erik.
Erik looked at her.
“Um… That’s Mr Erik”Kiara said
“Mr?”
“He’s my boss”Kiara said.
Daphne’s lips formed an “O”
“Mr Erik, Daphne”Kiara introduced, making a hand gesture towards Daphne.
“I’m her best friend”Daphne smiled.
“Yeah, she’s mentioned it” He said.
“Mentioned it? This isn’t your first time hanging out together?”She asked.
Erik looked at Kiara.
She chuckled awkwardly.
Daphne sat beside Kiara.
“So, you’re the one who told Kiara she dresses like an highschool student”She said to Erik.
Kiara cleared her throat and nudged Daphne.
“What?”Daphne frowned.
“Be nice”She whispered.
“You expect me to be nice to someone who ridiculed your style of dressing?”
“He already apologized”Kiara said quietly.
Erik watched them,he could hear what they were talking about.
“Really?”Daphne asked,surprised.
Kiara nodded.
“It still doesn’t change the fact that he said it”She said,facing Erik with a frown.
“Don’t look at him that way,are you trying to get me fired?”Kiara said again in her quiet voice.
“You’ll get another job if he fires you. You’re a hot cake and you shouldn’t even be working under someone who says harsh things to you” She said.
Kiara slapped her head in frustration knowing she couldn’t get Daphne to stop.
“Um… I’m really sorry about what I said to Kiara. I was… Being a jerk”Erik said, looking at Kiara.
Daphne folded her arms and glanced at Kiara before bringing her eyes back to Erik.
“Well,if Kiara can forgive you,I have no choice but to forgive you too.”She said “You’re too nice”She said to Kiara. “By the way, what’s with your eyes?” She asked Erik “You look like someone who’s been crying.
Erik chuckled awkwardly.
“You… Don’t have to give me a response. I just noticed how your eyes looked and…Wait”Daphne smiled “You both have the same eye color”
Erik and Kiara exchanged glances.
“Um,I should leave now. I’m sure Nathan is expecting me”Erik stood.
“Right. I…”Kiara stood also”I’ll walk you out” She said.
He nodded and they both left the coffee shop.
“I’m sorry about Daphne”Kiara said when they got outside.
“She seems like an… interesting friend”He said.
She chuckled awkwardly.
“You don’t have to apologize about her. She cares about you. I can see that”He said and she smiled.
“Thank you”He said.”You came when I called. I can’t imagine what I’d have done if you didn’t showed up”He said.
She smiled. “Will you be okay?”She asked.
“I’ll try” He said. “Bye”He said before getting into his car.
“Bye”Kiara said also and sighed as she watched him leave “I hope you feel better”She said and went back into the coffee shop to meet Daphne.
“I had no idea you and your boss hang out together” Daphne said.
“Well, we’re sort of… Friends now”
“Oooh, friends. That’s… Interesting”Daphne said, smiling knowingly.
“It’s not what you’re thinking”Kiara said.
“Really?”Daphne raised her brows, giving Kiara a silly look.
“Stop it”
Daphne laughed.

°°AN HOUR LATER°°
Kiara met Natasha in the living room when she got in.
She greeted her and Natasha responded with a smile.
Kiara went to sit on the couch opposite Natasha.
She cleared her throat.
“Is everything okay?”Natasha asked.
“I…Uh,I have to speak to you about something” Kiara said.
“O-kay…”Natasha sat up “I’m listening”She said
“I don’t want to do this anymore”She said
“Do what anymore?”Natasha faked a smile, hoping it wasn’t what she was thinking.
“I don’t want to take back my father’s wealth anymore”Kiara said.
