CHAPTER 63

JAMES POV
***********************
“James? What are you doing here?” Jayden
asked immediately I stepped inside his voice
laced with a hint of suspicion.

Jayden’s shirt was a crisp white, impeccably
pressed, with a subtle pattern that added a
touch of elegance. The silver cufflinks glinted
as he moved, a small but noticeable detail that
showcased his attention to detail. The tie he
wore was a shade of deep burgundy, perfectly
complementing the ensemble and adding a hint
of sophistication.

Jayden’s hair was neatly styled, giving him a
polished and refined look. It was evident that he
took pride in his appearance, paying attention to
even the smallest details. His clean-shaven face
highlighted his chiseled jawline, adding to his
overall charm.

With each step, his shoes, a sleek pair of black
leather oxfords, clicked softly against the floor.
The way he carried himself showed a sense of
confidence and self-assuredness, as if he
belonged in this world of sophistication and
refinement.

I gathered my thoughts. “I’m here to speak with
Amy,” I replied, my tone firm and resolute. “It’s
important that I talk to her.”

Jayden’s eyes narrowed, his defensive stance
evident. “She’s not here right now. What makes
you think you have the right to barge in like
this?”

The anger within me intensified, bubbling
beneath the surface. “What do you mean? She
is standing right next to me. You know you are a
horrible liar and hey, I have every right,” I
retorted, my voice laced with controlled fury.

“Amy and I have unfinished business, and I
won’t let anyone or anything stand in the way of
that.”

Jayden’s jaw tightened, a flicker of concern
flashing across his face. “Look, James, I don’t
know what you think you’re entitled to, but Amy
has made her choice. She’s chosen me.”

My fists clenched at my sides, my emotions
threatening to spill over.

“Chosen you? Are you sure about that,
Jayden?” I challenged, my voice dripping with
bitterness. “Or is this some kind of twisted
game, a plan you both hatched to use me?”

Jayden’s eyes widened, a mix of surprise and
defense crossing his features. “What are you
talking about? We love each other, James. Amy
has moved on, and it’s time you do the same.”

I felt a surge of disbelief and betrayal wash over
me. “Love? Is that what you call it?” I scoffed,
my voice laced with sarcasm. “It’s easy to hide
behind that word, to mask the truth. But deep
down, I know she still has feelings for me. I saw
it in her eyes, in the moments we shared.”

Jayden’s faΓ§ade cracked, a flicker of
uncertainty flashing through his eyes.

“You’re deluding yourself, James. Amy has
chosen me. It’s time you accept that and move
on.”

My fists tightened even further, my anger
reaching its boiling point. “Move on? You think I
can just forget about her? You think it’s that
easy?”
Amy’s eyes widened, caught off guard by my
sudden assertiveness. “What’s going on,
James? Why are you threatening Jayden?”

My eyes never left Jayden’s, my voice filled with
determination. “This is between him and me. I
need to have a word with him.”

Jayden shifted uncomfortably, his expression
betraying a mix of surprise and unease. “Amy,
it’s okay. Let me handle this.” He spoke calmly,
attempting to diffuse the tension in the room.
I approached him, my voice dripping with
intensity. “You,” I growled, my tone filled with
warning, “you need to end your engagement
with Amy. She deserves better than you.”

Jayden’s expression hardened, his posture
stiffening. “Who do you think you are, barging
into our home and making demands?” he
retorted, his voice laced with defiance.

I turned back to Amy, my voice softer but still
filled with conviction. “Amy, please understand
that I’ve come all this way because I can’t bear
to see you with someone who doesn’t truly
appreciate you, who doesn’t love you the way I
do.”

Her eyes flickered with a mix of
emotionsβ€”confusion, anger, and hurt. “James,
you can’t just show up out of nowhere and
disrupt my life,” she said, her voice trembling.
“I’ve moved on, and Jayden is a good man.
We’re happy together.”

My heart sank at her words, the weight of reality
crashing down upon me. I had imagined a
different response, a glimmer of hope that she
still held a place for me in her heart. But her
words shattered that illusion, leaving me feeling
lost and defeated.

“I’m sorry, Amy,” I whispered, my voice tinged
with regret. “I never wanted to cause you pain,
but I can’t stand by and watch you settle for
anything less than what you deserve.”

Amy’s eyes filled with tears, her voice wavering.
“You don’t get to decide what’s best for me,
James. You don’t have that right anymore.”

Jayden’s brows furrowed, his expression
shifting from confusion to anger. “Who do you
even think you are James, coming here and
making demands? You know I never knew you
were like this. So very uncultured and
uncivilised. Typical Americans. Well, just do you
get this into your head, Amy and I are engaged,
and it’s none of your business.”

My voice grew sharper, fueled by a surge of
emotions that threatened to consume me. “It is
my business when I see someone like you
taking advantage of her, manipulating her
emotions for your own gain.”

Amy interjected, her voice trembling with a mix
of anger and hurt. “James, how dare you accuse
Jayden of such things? You have no right to
come into our lives and disrupt everything.”

“I know what I am saying” I retorted, my voice
br!m-mln with conviction. “I know the truth,
Amy. He doesn’t love you the way I do. He’s
using you, and I won’t stand by and let it
happen.”

Jayden rose from the couch, his fists clenched,
his eyes burning with defiance. “You’re
delusional, James. Amy made her choice, and it
wasn’t you. Now leave and stay out of our lives.

My jaw tightened, my resolve strengthening. “I
won’t leave until I know Amy is safe from your
manipulation. She deserves happiness, and I
won’t let you stand in the way of that.”

Amy’s voice wavered as she struggled to find
the right words. “James, you can’t just barge in
here and make demands. I thought we were
cool, but this behavior is unacceptable.”
The truth of her words hit me like a dagger to
the heart. I had lost the privilege of being the
one to protect and care for her. My actions had
driven a wedge between us, irreparably
damaging the trust we once shared.

But I wasn’t about to back down. I can’t let Amy
marry Jayden. “No, Jayden. I won’t let you
manipulate Amy any longer. You need to end
your engagement with her. She deserves better.”

Amy’s eyes darted between the two of us, her
voice trembling with a mixture of confusion and
anger. “James, what are you even talking
about? Jayden hasn’t done anything wrong. He
loves me.”

I took a step closer to Jayden, my voice
unwavering. “Don’t play innocent, Jayden. I
know the truth. I know what you’ve been doing
behind Amy’s back.”

Jayden’s face paled, a flicker of guilt crossing
his eyes. “James, you don’t understand. There
are things you don’t know.”

I scoffed, my anger boiling to the surface. “Oh, I
think I understand perfectly well. You’ve been
using Amy, manipulating her into this
engagement while hiding your true intentions.”

Amy’s voice trembled with hurt and disbelief. “Is
this true, Jayden? Have you been deceiving
me?”

Jayden’s shoulders slumped, his voice tinged
with remorse. “Amy, I didn’t mean for things to
happen this way. It’s complicated.”

I shook my head, my voice filled with
conviction. “No, Amy, it’s not complicated. You
deserve someone who loves you honestly and
genuinely. Jayden is not that person.”

Tears welled up in Amy’s eyes, a mix of anger
and heartbreak evident on her face. “How dare
you come here and make such accusations,
James? You have no right to interfere in my life.

I reached out, my voice pleading. “Amy, I’m not
trying to hurt you. I’m trying to protect you. You
deserve someone who will cherish you, who will
be honest with you.”

Amy’s voice cracked with emotion as she spoke,
her voice laced with pain. “Leave, James. Leave
now and never come back.”

My heart sank, realizing the depth of the hurt I
had caused. A pang of guilt coursed through
me, momentarily clouding my judgment. “Amy,
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. I just can’t
bear to see you hurt. I love you, and I’ll do
anything to prove it to you. Jayden can’t offer
you what I can.”

Tears welled up in her eyes, her voice filled with
a mixture of sadness and resolve. “It’s too late,
James. You had your chance, and you let it slip
away. I can’t keep dwelling on what could have
been.”

As the reality of her words settled in, my anger
turned inward, fueled by my own regret and
longing. “I’ve made a terrible mistake, Amy. I let
fear guide my actions, and now I’m left with
nothing.”…
