BETWEEN THE PANES – Episode 27 & 28

CHAPTER 27&28

πŸ’TIMIπŸ’

It’s been two weeks since Kelvin and I started dating, and a lot has happened in that time. After Chidera cheated on Atlas, he ended things with her the next day. She was furious, blaming me for leading him to the restroom where he caught her in the act. Well, guilty as charged, but honestly, she deserved to be caught.

Her actions were not fair, using Atlas for her own benefit just because he’s the proprietor’s son and, let’s face it, quite attractive.

On the bright side, Kelvin and I are doing really well. He’s truly the best person I could ever ask for in my life. He’s supportive, caring, and just an all-around amazing boyfriend. I’ve been encouraging him to study more because, let’s face it, Kelvin tends to prefer playing over hitting the books. But as the best girlfriend in the world, it’s my duty to make sure he’s on track academically, even if it means some playful nudging to get him there. Funny how love can motivate you to do things you never thought you would, right?

Meanwhile, Atlas and I have grown closer since the incident with Dera. We talk every night before bed through our windows. It’s a strange but comforting routine we’ve developed. Despite what happened between us, I can’t help but wonder why he kissed me that day. I know he doesn’t have feelings for me, so what was his motive?

“Want to go for a swim?” Atlas’s voice interrupted my thoughts. I glanced at him through the window before bursting into laughter.

“Me, swim with you?” I replied, incredulous.

“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” he asked, leaning against his window.

“Nothing, actually. It’s just unexpected,” I admitted, still surprised by his invitation.

“I know what you’re thinking, you know,” he said with a playful smirk.

“Oh, really? And what’s that?” I asked, feigning innocence.

“You think I want to check out your @$$,” he said bluntly, causing us both to burst into laughter again.

“I mean, yes you do most of the times but thats not it” I said, knowing full well he’s guilty of it.

“Okay, okay, jokes aside, do you want to swim?” he asked, his tone more serious now.

“What if I said no? What would you do about it?” I challenged, enjoying our banter.

“It’s simple. I’ll just carry you and throw you into the cold water,” he replied with a mischievous grin.

“You wouldn’t dare!” I exclaimed, laughing at the image he painted.

“I promise I won’t look at your @$$,” he added, trying to reassure me.

“I’ll hold you to that,” I said with a smirk, knowing he’s probably lying. I’ve caught him sneaking glances before.

“Alright, I’ll get dressed,” I said, accepting his invitation.

“Whose pool are we using?” he asked, curiosity evident in his voice.

“Obviously mine,” I replied, earning a playful eye roll from him.

I closed my windows and then slipped into a bikini top and shorts, taking a moment to admire myself in the mirror. I couldn’t help but smileβ€”I felt beautiful and confident, and I knew it.

Heading downstairs, I encountered Tiwa coming out of my room, dressed in a cute little gown. I raised an eyebrow inquisitively.

“Why are you all dressed up?” I asked, a smile playing on my lips. Tiwa glanced at me before returning the smile.

“I’m going out with my friends, and Adam’s mom is taking us out,” she explained.

“You never told me! If I hadn’t come out, would you have told me?” I teased.

“Since you seem to have no time for me anymore and are too busy with your new boyfriend,” she retorted, her tone playful but with a hint of mock annoyance.

“It’s not because of Kelvin, I’ve just been busy studying for my exams,” I insisted.

“Well, I’m not going to argue with you. You’re just in love,” she said, causing me to burst into laughter.

“Why are you dressed up?” She countered, changing the subject.

“Oh, I’m going swimming with Atlas,” I announced.

“Seriously?” Tiwa’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” I replied, a mischievous grin spreading across my face.

“Ever since you started hanging out with him, you’ve become more cheerful,” Tiwa observed.

“And what exactly are you trying to say?” I asked, raising an eyebrow suspiciously.

“Nothing, really. I was just pointing it out,” she said innocently, though I couldn’t shake the feeling that she was up to something.

“I’m watching you,” I whispered playfully, my smile widening.

“Me too,” Tiwa replied, echoing my sentiment with a grin of her own.

I walked to the pool to find Atlas already there, lounging on a chair. As soon as he saw me, a wide grin spread across his face. I returned the smile and made my way over to him.

“You should have told me you were going to spend two hours getting ready just to come out looking like a wretched doll,” he teased as I sat beside him, dipping our legs into the pool.

“Seriously?” I rolled my eyes, used to his playful banter.

“I’m not even joking,” he insisted, a playful glint in his eyes.

“You have a big head, I’m not even joking about it,” I retorted, nudging him playfully.

“We all know that’s a lie. Like, are you even seeing my hair?” he joked, running a hand through his hair, making it bounce.

“What’s wrong with your hair? Your hair that’s not even fine,” I teased back, reaching out to tousle his hair. I couldn’t deny that it was soft and luscious, but his pride always amused me.

“You’re just jealous, admit it,” he chuckled, before suddenly pushing me into the water.

I hadn’t expected it, but I decided to play along and pretend to struggle to swim, listening to his laughter.

“I’m not dumb, I know you can swim. I’ve seen you multiple times,” he called out, but I decided to stay submerged and play the prank a little longer.

“Your joke is so funny,” I heard him say, but despite his attempt at humor, there was still no response from me.

“You’re getting me scared,” his tone shifted to concern, followed by a sense of urgency.

“It’s not funny anymore,” he said, and then I heard the splash as he dove into the water. Feeling his hands on my waist, he pulled me out of the pool.

“Oh lord,” his voice was filled with panic as he tried to assess the situation. It was almost comical how he was reacting, and I couldn’t help but suppress a laugh.

“What should I do?” his voice was barely a whisper as he tried to figure out the next steps. His hands pressed against my chest, trying to expel any water from my lungs. It was both endearing and amusing at the same time.

“Ohhh lord,” he muttered again, his worry evident in his voice.

Then, I heard him contemplate the idea of giving me mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and I almost opened my eyes in surprise.

As he leaned in closer, I snapped out of my act and reacted instinctively. My hands met his face with a sharp slap.

His expression shifted from concern to anger in an instant. “I’m sorry,” I quickly apologized, realizing my mistake.

Instead of accepting my apology, he stood up abruptly and started walking away, clearly upset by my reaction.

Feeling guilty for my rash action, I followed him, desperately trying to apologize. But he was walking too fast, and I struggled to keep up.

“I am sorry, seriously,” I pleaded, but he showed no sign of stopping.

Despite my stubborn nature, I couldn’t shake off the guilt of having struck him so hard when he was only trying to help. I trailed him, persistently attempting to apologize, but he remained unmoved.

“I’m genuinely sorry,” I pleaded, but he quickened his pace. Upon entering his house, I saw him nearing the staircase, prompting me to dash after him. I managed to reach his door just before he could close it.

“I know my reaction was too much, but please believe me, I truly regret it,” I expressed, but he remained silent.

“Atlas,” I called out, standing just behind him.

“I promise I won’t lay a hand on you again, I swear…”

Before I could finish my sentence, he surprised me with a sudden kiss.

Wait, what!? And the worst part of it is that I found myself responding to the kiss.

To be continued…
