BETWEEN THE PANES – Episode 3 & 4

CHAPTER 3&4

☆~ATLAS~☆

Atlas stared at the box in front of him one last time before rolling his eyes in frustration.

“America is still better though,” he exclaimed loudly enough for his mom to hear.

“Don’t say that, honey,” she chided gently as she entered his room.

“The people here are much nicer,” she continued, her voice soothing.

“Do you prefer this room?” she inquired, knowing Atlas had multiple choices to make.

“Yes, it’s closer to the balcony,” he replied, prompting a nod of approval from his mom.

“I’ll go prepare dinner for us,” she announced, about to leave when Atlas grabbed her hand.

“Do I really have to stay here? I had a life in the US, friends, you know…” he trailed off, his voice tinged with longing.

“I know, honey, but I think this is the perfect place to start a new life. And besides, there are plenty of pretty girls here,” she teased, nudging his shoulders playfully, eliciting a small smile from him.

“You’ll be starting school the day after tomorrow, so start preparing so you won’t miss much,” she reminded him, to which Atlas nodded in acknowledgment.

“Make sure you behave well at school. And you know, being my son, there might be some special treatment. Don’t let it get to your head,” she cautioned before finally leaving him to unpack.

As Atlas finished unpacking, he made his way to the balcony, marveling at the beautiful view connected to his room.

His attention was suddenly captured by a girl walking towards the pool. He stood there, mesmerized as he admired her graceful figure.

His eyes moved to her @$$, he could not even stop himself from looking at her @$$.

” d@mn” He murmured. He could not deny the fact that she had a perfect big @$$.

His gaze lingered on her as she dived into the pool and began to swim. She moved with elegance and grace, captivating his attention even more.

He watched her until she emerged from the pool and headed towards a lounge chair. However, his reverie was interrupted by the ringing of his phone, causing the girl to glance in his direction and hastily cover herself with a towel.

Puzzled by her sudden reaction, Atlas frowned. After all, wearing a bikini was normal in the US.

Shrugging off the confusion, he returned to his room to take a bath and change into fresh clothes. As he did, he glanced across to the room opposite his and noticed the same girl he had seen earlier.

Wait, was that her room?

🍒TIMI🍒

We all ate silently from the food, savoring the delicious meal. I found myself enjoying the flavors and the warmth of the moment.

“Timi,” Tiwa whispered, catching my attention.

“Mm?” I responded, turning to look at her.

“That guy is handsome, oo,” she said, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. Her voice was a bit louder than intended, causing heads to turn in our direction.

“The way you talked, hope you know they heard you, sha?” I teased, making her eyes widen. She glanced at Atlas, who smiled back at her. Nonsense boy.

“I was not talking about him,” she clarified, nodding towards another boy seated beside Atlas. He looked to be Tiwa’s age or maybe a year older.

“If i slap you, eh,” I joked, making her laugh.

As we finished our dinner and prepared to leave, we thanked Mrs Austin for the meal, she gave Tiwa a warm hug before turning to me .

” Thank you for joining us for dinner” She said.

“Any time,” I smiled, reciprocating the gratitude.

“So… Atlas will be starting school a day after tomorrow, and I would love for you to show him around,” Mrs austin suggested. Despite my reluctance, I couldn’t bring myself to refuse her. She was, after all, one of the kindest people I knew.

“Are you okay with that?” she asked, and I nodded, glancing over at Atlas, who didn’t seem too thrilled with the idea.

“If Atlas gives you any hard time, do not hesitate to tell me,” she assured me, and I nodded, offering a reassuring smile.

I looked at Atlas, feeling a pang of annoyance at his apparent lack of enthusiasm. I despised boys with too much pride, and he seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

His stupid pride.

“Goodnight, aunty,” I bid her farewell before turning to Atlas.

“Welcome to Nigeria,” I said, a hint of sarcasm in my tone, as I headed towards the door. But, as usual, Tiwa ruined my grand exit by striking up a conversation with Atlas’s brother.

“Tiwa,” I called out, causing her to hurry over to me.

“You and boys, eh,” I teased as we walked back home.

“What? He was fineee,” she replied, flashing a smile.

“You like white boys?” I inquired.

“I like all boys,” Tiwa replied with a smile.

“I know you don’t like any boy. No need for your comment, Mrs. ‘I don’t like anybody’,” she teased, causing me to chuckle. Despite her young age, Tiwa understood me better than anyone else in the world.

“Who told you I don’t like anybody?” I challenged her.

“You? Can you like somebody?” she retorted, bursting into laughter.

“What?” I asked, curious about her amusement.

“You like that boy,” she pointed in the direction of Atlas’s house.

“Me? Please, Atlas is not even attractive, and besides, I don’t like white boys,” I stated firmly as we reached the front of our house.

“Atlas is not attractive? Are you blind or something?” Tiwa teased.

“I’m starting to wonder if you’re attracted to girls,” she joked, making me laugh.

“Please, I’m not a lesbian. I just choose to focus on studying,” I clarified, amused by her teasing.

“Leave the ‘best student’ award for someone else. You’ve been winning it ever since I was born. If I were your classmate, I’d be so annoyed and might even gang up against you,” Tiwa teased as we reached the entrance of her room.

“Well, they can do wh@tëver they want. I’ll continue to excel until I graduate. Besides, it’s my last year,” I replied confidently.

Tiwa yawned tiredly before opening her bedroom door..

” Goodnight” I said, she bid me goodnight before closing her door.

I walked back to my room, feeling grateful for the conversation with Tiwa. She always found a way to lift my spirits and make me smile.

After changing into my pajamas, I glanced back at the window and saw Atlas lying on his bed. Wait, if I don’t close my window, I’ll always have to see this boy?

God!

“Now you’re the one staring at me,” Atlas remarked, sitting up.

“I don’t have time for you,” I replied, yawning before settling onto my bed.

“You’re just unnecessarily rude,” he commented, causing me to sit back up.

“Me or you?” I challenged.

“I’d say you,” he responded.

“You started it, though,” I retorted.

“I did nothing, miss,” he claimed.

“My name is Timi. Call me Timi,” I stated firmly.

“Are all Nigerian girls as rude as you?” he asked, irritating me further.

“And you expect me to answer that?” I replied, feeling annoyed.

“Yes, especially if you want to prove that you’re not rude at all,” he remarked.

“Why should I want to prove anything to you?” I questioned.

“You’re complicating everything,” he remarked, making me sigh in frustration.

“Please, goodnight,” I said before standing up to close my window.

I might as well not open it again.

To be continued…
