Chapter Fifteen
(BACK TO THE PRESENT MOMENT)
“I deserved to know. I deserved to know what happened years ago. You and Tiffany had no right to decide for me”Alfred said when Fannie finished telling him what occurred six years ago.
“We had no right to keep it from you. I never wanted to keep it from you but after listening to what you said to that priest that day. I decided that it would be best if I left. I didn’t want to be a burden to you or anyone”She said
“And so you chose the easy way out. Did you know how much I suffered. I got back home to find you gone and your explanation is that letter. A letter I didn’t believe. I searched for you like crazy and each time the detective came back to me with no news. I felt like my heart was being ripped in pieces!”He confessed to her.
Fannie knew she had hurt him by leaving but she didn’t think that the wound would have been this intense.
“Am sorry Alfred. I never wanted you to suffer. I only wanted the best for you” She said.
“The best you could have offered was to stay. You could have stayed and made me decide”He said.
“And would you have chosen to stay with a barren woman? “she asked
“I would have!”He replied
“I don’t doubt that but as years go by. You will resent me for not giving you the child you want and if I had stayed back then. Sarah would never be in your life now”She said
“Sarah. Do you even know how she was conceived?” He asked harshly.
“I would rather not know”She replied not wanting to Listen to his affair with his wife.
“While trying to forget you. I took solace in alcohol and met grace who took advantage of the moment and had her way. I know I took part in all of it but I was drunk and that’s all because I was thinking of you”He said as he took hold of her shoulders.
“Fine. It’s my fault. Am to be blamed for everything that happened. Am sorry Alfred and now that you know the real reason I left you years ago. I hope we can put it all behind us and start our ……”She stopped talking when he pulled her into a fierce hug.
“Don’t say it! Don’t say what you are trying to say”He said as he held her tight.
She stood still in his arms while the tears poured out.
“I love you. I still love you and am not willing to give up on you. I won’t give up on you”He said and she pulled back to stare at him only to be kissed.
He pulled her close, deepening the kiss while his hands roamed over her body.
Fannie knew she should stop him but she couldn’t stop herself. It’s been six years since she had him this close to her and there was no use denying it. She still love him and will keep on loving him.
He pulled back to stare at her. Silently asking her consent on what would happen if they continued.
Fannie pulled him close and initiated the kiss this time around making it known to him that she want him just as much as he wants her.
Their clothes was gotten rid of and in no time the two were on the bed. Making sweet love to each other. Rediscovering their passion and feelings for each other. Getting acquainted once again and trying to make up for the past six years that they’ve been separated.
The two brothers who were sleeping next door didn’t matter to this two. Neither were they concerned about being caught. All they had in mind at that moment was how much they wanted each other.
Fannie woke up in the mid morning. She was still in Alfred arms and also in his room.
She had to get out before anyone comes into the room. Quickly she got out of the bed and put on her clothes. Making sure she didn’t wake Alfred up.
She took her things and was about to leave when she went back to him.
She crouched in front of the bed and touched his cheek. Sleeping made him look like a baby.
A baby who she has a great desire to protect. She thought as she stared at him.
But she had to give up on him. She is now engaged to Chris and she had to keep her promise to him.
She would tell him about what she did with Alfred cause if she never tell him about it her conscience won’t let her be.
Her thing with Alfred is one of the past. He might say he love her but he wouldn’t want a barren woman for the rest of his life.
Chris has known of her situation and he understand and is still willing to marry her. She thought as she kissed Alfred gently on the head as she stood up about to leave when he took hold of her hand.
“Don’t go! If you leave then that mean that you dont want to be with me”Alfred said softly his eyes closed.
“Am sorry Alfred. “Fannie said as she pulled her hand away from his. Leaving the room.

“You gorgeous Dora”Fannie said as she stood admiring Dora in her wedding gown.
“And you look gloomy. This doesn’t have to do with Alfred right?”Dora asked and Fannie moved away from her to stand by the window.
“What happen Fannie? “Dora asked as she went to meet Fannie.
“I told him the truth Dora. I told him the real reason why I left and…..”
“And what?”Dora urged
“He still wants me”Fannie replied.
“And so? What’s your decision?” Dora asked.
“I didn’t accept him Dora. I don’t want to bring him down with me. He deserves to be happy with someone who can give him what he wants”She replied.
“What about you? Are you happy letting him go?”Dora asked and the years Fannie had been holding in began to spill.
“I love him Dora. I h@të myself for pushing him away but I can’t bear watching him suffer because of me”
“While you suffer silently and also pull Chris into the suffering. It’s not fair for both of them.”Dora said.
“What can I do. I already gave my word to Chris. I can’t back out” Fannie said and Dora took hold of her hand.
“Tell me! Do you see yourself happy with Chris? “Dora asked
“Chris is fun to be with and he has been a lot of help to me and…..”
“It’s gratitude you feel towards Chris. You don’t love him and you’ve got to let him know. It wouldn’t be fair to him just like it won’t be fair to you. Your heart belongs to Alfred. If I were you. I will choose to follow my heart and d@mn the consequences”Dora said.
“Think about it Fannie. Who do you see yourself happy with?”Dora added and Fannie found herself thinking about Alfred and Sarah.
“If you are sure about who he is. Then my friend. Go to him and do what you must do”Dora said as she watched Fannie gave light up again.
“You are right! I have to think of my happiness along with their happiness. I have to go Dora. I have to talk to him”Fannie said as she ran out of the house.
She was dressed for the wedding already and her gown being a long one made it hard for her to run properly.
Picking up the fold of her gown. She kept running, heading to Alfred room when she bumped into John.
“Hey Fannie! Where are you off to?”John asked.
“Is Alfred in? I need to talk to him”She said as she tried to walk past him but he pulled her back.
“Alfred isn’t in. He left early for the airport”John replied.
