Chapter Seventeen & Eighteen
“Alfred! Nice to see you again” Dora said jolting the two who had gotten quiet and were just starring at each other.
“Same here”Alfred replied as he gave Dora a hug while he still stared at Fannie
“Well am glad that you are here. I hope you can talk to her”Dora said and he nodded.
“Thanks for the info”
“Your welcome. Gotta go Fannie”Dora said as she excused herself from their midst.
“You look pale”Alfred said as he took a seat starring at her.
“It’s just my colour”Fannie replied as she picked up her ÇOçktail to drink.
“Why do I get the feeling that you don’t want me here?”Alfred asked.
“That’s because I don’t. If Dora had told me you will be here then I wouldn’t have come”Fannie replied.
“Why? Are you mad at me for leaving without saying a word?” He asked.
“Am just thinking about your wife and daughter who are waiting back home for you”Fannie said.
“Just so you know my marriage to Grace got annulled. So Grace is no longer my wife”He said and though that somehow made Fannie happy. She didn’t show it to him.
“That’s none of my business. I have things to do and …..”
“Sit down Fannie!”Alfred ordered suddenly and she turned to him. Not wanting to give in to his order.
“Sit down or I swear I will make you”He threatened this time and she had no option but to sit.
“We have to talk and the earlier we do that the better for us both”Alfred said.
” I don’t think we have anything to discuss. You made your choice a week ago and that was to leave”Fannie returned angry by his behaviour.
“I only went back because of Grace sudden return. I have been waiting for her return because I wanted to see her for the divorce which I succeeded in getting “Alfred said trying to make her see reason. A reason which Fannie liked so much.
“Fine then”Fannie replied.
“Fine then? Is that all you are going to say?”,he asked.
“What else do you want me to say. Congratulation on your divorce? Well am not that cruel to say that”Fannie replied.
“Well you are not that cruel to say it but your attitude alone is being cruel”Alfred said.
“What do you mean?”Fannie asked.
“I came here after getting that message from Dora. You don’t know how painful it is to know that you chose to get married to Chris”Alfred said.
“Well that’s just a…..”
“Let me finish”He ordered which she did. “I know I was a jerk for leaving in that manner but I had no choice and not for once did I stop thinking about you. I love you Fannie and i know you feel the same way. Don’t make a mistake by marrying someone you don’t love”Alfred said.
“I……”
“You and I belong to each other. We have been separated for years. Don’t separate us further by getting married to a man you don’t……”
“Am not getting married Alfred!”She said interrupting his words.
“What?”He stopped.
“Am not getting married tomorrow or any other day” Fannie said.
“But Dora……”
“Lied to you. She lied so you could come to me. I would have called you too but I was waiting for you to do it first” Fannie said and he smiled at her.
“Have been such a fool Alfred. Just so you won’t be saddled with a burden like me. I left you and on meeting you again. I tried to push you away and said hurtful things to you but you never gave up. Am sorry for all the hurt have caused you” Fannie said softly and he took her hand in his.
“It doesn’t matter. So can you say the words have been longing to hear now?” Alfred asked
“I love you”Fannie said smiling up at him but he frowned at her.
“Not that. I already know that you love you me” he replied.
“That have missed you”She said again.
“No”
“Then what is it Alfred?” Fannie asked.
“That we should get back together”Alfred said only to recieve a smile from her.
“Fine then. Let’s get back together Alfred”She said and he nodded.
“Let’s do that. I love you Fannie”He said as he kissed her.
“I booked a room”Alfred whispered into her ear.
“Were you so sure that I would accept?” Fannie asked.
“I wasn’t. I only booked the room so that when you proved stubborn. I will just steal you away and make love to you until you accept” he said making Fannie blush.
“Alfred you are satisfied with me right? Not that in a few years time. You will start to regret your decision in being with me”Fannie said.
“I won’t regret it. You and I are both made for each other and its you I will keep on choosing even in my next life”Alfred said clearing Fannie doubts.
“What about you? Are you sure you won’t regret being with me?”He asked in return.
“I won’t. Now let’s go to the room you booked”Fannie said and Alfred pulled her into his arms as they both stood up only to see someone they both recognised standing there.
