Chapter Twenty three
(A MONTH BEFORE)
(STILL AT THE HOSPITAL)
“So what do you plan to do? How do you plan to change Alfred mind when he doesn’t want to see you”Dora asked.
“I have to be close to him. So I will have a change of identity”Fannie said.
“A change? How do you plan on doing that?”.
“By not Being Fannie. By being someone different. Someone like Maddy Waterson. I like that name. Maddy Waterson will be my new name”Fannie stated.
“What about your looks, your voice and everything else?”Dora asked.
“I will just have to change my voice and then my hair will have to be cut. I could do with a glass. Alfred won’t be able to see me”She said as her expression changed to one of Sadness.
“I hope it all turns out well”Dora said trying to cheer her up.
“It will. With my name changed and my looks. I will have to lie that am his nurse. A nurse who will do all her best to get him out of the depression he has fallen into” Fannie stated.
“Your name and looks are a piece of cake for you but your Identity. You don’t even know a thing about nursing. How do you intend to get away with that?”Dora asked.
“Where there is a will, there will always be a way. I will make it work Dora. All I just need you to do now is to help me contact Tiffany and let her In on the plan”She said.
“Will Tiffany agree?”Dora asked.
“She has no choice and besides am doing this for the man I love not for her” Fannie stated.
Tiffany had been informed about Fannie plans and Tiffany had gladly accept it and for the weeks that went by. Fannie finished her therapy and also got some Of the nurses to teach her some basic things while Dora bought her the books that had to do with nursing.
It took a long full month to acquaint herself with everything and on the day she got out of the hospital. She visited the barbing saloon where she had her hair cut and bought a new set of perfume to get rid of the smell Alfred was familiar with.
With that done. She prepared herself mentally for her meeting with Alfred. It’s been a month since she has seen him. She hope that he would accept the new identity she has create for herself.
(A month later)
(On the day of her meeting with Alfred)
“Here is your nurse Alfred. Maddy Waterson” Tiffany said introducing Alfred to his new nurse and Fannie dressed in a white knee length gown walked into the room looking different.
“Hello Mr Clinton. Am Maddy Waterson. At your service”Fannie said as she began the lie.
“I thought I said I don’t want a nurse!”He said as he stood up from his bed to stare at his bedroom door way which had Fannie and Tiffany standing there.
“And I made it clear to you that I will be hiring a nurse. So stop being a hard head and accept her cause she is here to stay”Tiffany said starring at Fannie who gave her a nod.
“I will leave her to take care of you “Tiffany added as she left the two of them alone.
“I don’t know what my sister has told you but I don’t need you or anyone. So leave!”He yelled at her.
“The thing is have been payed a huge amount and so I can’t do that”Fannie lied.
“How much were you given? Am willing to pay more if that will get you to leave”He stated.
“Am sorry sir but I can’t do that? I stick to the rules of my work and that is to help a patient who has given up on life”She said .
“What makes you think that have given up on life?. What do you know about me that makes you think you can talk like that? “he asked.
“From what have been told. You are someone who have turned to a depressed old man though you aren’t old yet and my job is to get people like you back on track and I won’t leave until I achieve that?”She stated.
“Have had enough of you. Get out! Get out before I lose my patience”He yelled at her.
“I will leave now because your temper is just like mine believe me when I say that you wouldn’t like me angry. I will be back to make sure you get to eat dinner”She said as she left his room.
She got downstairs to see Tiffany pacing around the area.
“What did he say?”Tiffany asked.
“It’s not going to be a easy task but am not going to give up. Alfred will overcome his depression”Fannie said determinedly only for Tiffany to pull her into her arms.
“Thank you Fannie. Thank you for coming back. Thank you for being here for him even though he doesn’t know it”Tiffany said.
“You don’t have to thank me. It’s something I must do for him. Even though he gets to know the truth about my deceit, I will stay with him until he gets through his depression”She stated only to recieve a smile from Tiffany.
“You really deserve my brother. Am sorry for looking down on you in the past . I thought that you will only be a burden to him but I can see how much you love him”Tiffany said starring at Fannie short hair.
“It’s okay. As long as you now know that Alfred and I are meant together. Am fine with it”Fannie replied.
“Sarah has been taken to one of her friend house to stay for a while. Alfred will find out about you if she gets to stay here”Tiffany told her.
“Am glad about that. Have you prepared my room. I need to wash up and go back to that……”She stopped talking when they heard a loud thump from Alfred room.
“Alfred!”Tiffany and Fannie yelled out as they quickly went up the stairs.
Fannie got there first and she found Alfred on the floor. Quickly she ran to him. Kneeling in front of him.
“Alfred are you okay? Are you okay?”She asked as she took hold of his hand.
“Fannie?”He called suddenly and she stopped to stare at him.
Did he know? She thought as she kept on starring at him.
