“Daddy!”Sarah called as she got out of the seat she had been placed on and running the few distance that separated them.
As soon as he felt her hug him. His hands searched for her beneath him and then he crouched in front of her to give her a hug.
“How have you been my dearest?”He asked
“Fine. You still can’t see me right?”Sarah asked and he nodded gently.
“I can’t see you but you know that I have you etched in my memory” he said and she nodded before giving him a kiss.
“F…..Maddy here says that she is your nurse”Sarah said and he nodded again.
His attention had been taken by Sarah but on the mention of Fannie fake name. He remembered the question he had asked them.
“You still haven’t replied me yet “He said.
“It’s just that….it’s just that…..” Fannie began feeling scared that he knows the truth.
“Just that what? Why exactly did you tell her to only call you Maddy. Do you have another name that I don’t know about?”He asked.
“She doesn’t! What she was telling Sarah was that she should only call her Maddy. You know that Madison is the full name of Maddy and so she asked Sarah to shorten it”Tiffany replied quickly.
“Really?”He asked still a bit doubtful.
“Yes. You don’t have to worry about anything. After all the two are just meeting for the first time and so they were just having a little intro”Tiffany replied.
“Fine then”He replied as he stood up.
“Sarah will take me back to my room. You don’t have to come with me”Alfred said to Fannie.
“I will be your guide daddy. Follow my lead”Sarah said cheerfully as she pulled him towards the stairs.
Fannie let out a sigh of relieve before sitting at her seat.
“That was close”Tiffany said beside her.
“For a while I thought that he knew who I was ” Fannie said.
“I also thought the same thing but luckily he only heard the last conversation you had with Sarah”Tiffany said feeling relieved too.
“Do you think that Sarah will say the truth?” Fannie asked still not sure about Sarah.
“She will. You don’t have to worry about it”Tiffany replied as her phone began to ring.
She answered and for a while she listened and replied before ending the call.
“We’ve got a problem”Tiffany said as she looked a bit worried.
“What’s wrong?”She asked.
“The eye doctor I had booked an appointment with turns out to be heading back to Singapore the day after tomorrow and Alfred had been booked to see him next week. His secretary has pushed all his appointment forward and Alfred is booked to see him tomorrow. What are we going to do?”Tiffany asked.
“I thought I would be given enough time to get to talk to him but now that it has come to this. I will just have to do it”She replied as she left the kitchen heading to his bedroom.
“Daddy would you ever see again?”She heard Sarah ask him as she stood by the door way.
“I don’t think so”He replied.
“What if a doctor can help you?”Sarah continued.
“I watched a film recently and that lady was blind and with the help of the doctor she could see again.. What if your case turns out that way?”She asked
“I dont think that will ever happen. What you watch is just a film. It’s not reality my dearest. So don’t believe such”He replied.
“What if it happens to you too? “Sarah asked.
“There is no hope for me. I don’t think that someone out there will be able to get rid of my blindness”He stated with a lost of hope
Fannie knew that if she approached him now. He wont pay her any attention and if she delayed things. The doctor appointment will be missed.
She went back to the kitchen to see Tiffany still there drinking coffee.
“Did you tell him?”She asked as soon as she saw Fannie walking into the room.
“I didn’t get the chance but I have something up my sleeve and it’s got to work out”She said as she told Tiffany of the plan.
THE NEXT DAY
Alfred opened his eyes to darkness as always and immediately he sat up. He knew that something was off.
He wasn’t in his room and the smell in here seemed strange and familiar. It’s a smell he knew but can’t really pinpoint what it is.
“Good morning!”He heard Maddy voice and he knew immediately that he has been brought somewhere else.
“Where are we?” He asked.
“At the hospital” She replied.
“And why the hell am I here?”He yelled.
“Keep it low. You are in a hospital”She said trying to get him to keep quiet.
“Why should I when I don’t even know how I got here?”He asked.
“Well I brought you here. I drugged you just like I did before and brought you here”She replied.
“Why? Just what are you up to this time?” He asked.
“To get you to see the doctor” She said.
“I didn’t ask you to do that! Just who do you think you are to decide for me?”He yelled at her.
“Am your nurse and as someone whose top priority is to keep you safe and healthy. I have the right to decide this for you”she returned Fiercely.
“Well I won’t…..”he stopped when the door opened and Doctor Wilton walked in accompanied by Tiffany.
She thought that he would make a fuss when the doctor began the examination but he didn’t.
“Well Alfred case is something that can be operated on. If he wants, the surgery can be done as soon as he is available” Doctor Wilton said.
Fannie along with Tiffany gave a sigh of relief.
“But how soon can that be and besides you will be returning to Singapore tomorrow. When will you have the chance to perform the operation?”Tiffany asked.
“Turns out that my trip to Singapore has been cancelled. I have a free schedule. When the necessary things have been prepared then let’s say that I can perform the surgery this Saturday”He gave them a reply and after thanking him. He left for his other appointment.
“Isn’t it great that you will be able to see again” Tiffany enthused happily.
“You will just have to stop wh@tëver fantasies you have because I won’t be having the surgery”Alfred said suddenly.
