MARVINSβ RESIDENCE
The boys were worried, so they decided to reach out to Valerie. No matter how they called him, Valerie wouldnβt pick up. They even tried calling his younger brother, Josh, since Valerieβs mom wasnβt answering either.
Nash, despite saying they shouldnβt disturb Valerie, couldnβt deny the fact that he wanted to know what was happening to him.
Finally, the call went through, and Josh informed them that Valerie had gotten into a fight with their mom and left the house. He was on his way somewhere, but Josh didnβt know where exactly.
The boys exchanged confused glances, wondering what could be going on with Valerie, but they couldnβt find a specific answer.
βI canβt go to class without Valerie,β Sweetheart muttered, and Nash sighed deeply, trying hard to figure out what Valerie could be after.
β
βThereβs something I wanted to tell you,β Lesley told Devyn, and Devyn nodded her head.
βThe truth isβ¦β She paused, and Devyn raised a brow.
βIβm dead,β She said, but Devyn didnβt look surprised at her statement. It was Lesleyβs turn to frown.
β Youβre not surprised β
βI thought as much, but I didnβt come to a conclusion yet. The day you took me to your house and a strange being appeared to me, I knew you werenβt yourself. Berry told me itβs a split personality, which I wanted to believe too, but I couldnβt because your attitude that day showed it wasnβt you. You acted like you didnβt even know me or your surroundings,β Devyn replied.
βSo youβre saying youβre dead, but why can I touch you? Iβm curious,β
βThis body is not mine, and Iβm not Lesley either. Iβm just using this body and her name,β she explained.
βWe had one thing in common, the love for music. Maybe that was the reason I could make use of her body,β Lesley kept explaining.
βIβm Catrina, and I died on stage while performing. I wanted to be popular, but a bunch of crazy fellows cut short that dream of mine. My mom and dad cried their eyes out, yet I couldnβt do anything. I was taken by the Grim Reaper, but luckily, I escaped the underworld and met Lesley. Her personality was different from mine. She was crazy and sassy. I thought it would be a good idea to take her body. And since she was sent to this school, I thought it was a dream come true for me to realize my dream until Mu Yul and Berry came.β
βMu Yul and Berry?β Devyn asked, and She nodded.
βTheyβre both not human. Mu Yul is a Grim Reaper, while Berry is your fallen star. I guess his duty is to protect you,β She said, and Devynβs gaze went to Blueberry.
βHe wasnβt lying?β she wondered in her head, and Blueberry, who overheard her, turned to face her. She quickly looked away.
βSo, why are you telling me this?β Devyn asked.
βOh, just wanted you to know,β Lesley muttered.
βIβll let you think Iβm still here. Lesley will act as me perfectly. I want you to think Iβm still by your side, Devyn, because you were a good friend. This is the only way to say goodbye. Iβll leave immediately after I sing the first part tomorrow. I wish you success as you accomplish your dreams,β She said in her head and hugged Devyn tightly.
βIβll miss you,β She said tearfully while still in the embrace.
β
Harriet and Elvire sat at the practice hall, talking and laughing. However, their conversation was abruptly interrupted when they heard footsteps entering the practice hall.
βUnnie β Elvira called, and Harriet turned to face her.
βWhat do you want? And stop calling me that because Iβm not your sister. Youβve never obeyed me, and you still have the audacity to call me sister?β Harriet asked.
The seriousness in Harrietβs tone made both girls uneasy. Elvira frowned and stepped in front of Harriet, holding her hand. Harriet attempted to release her grip, but Elvira refused to let go.
βHarriet?β Elvira called softly, but Harriet remained silent.
βIβm fine with wh@tΓ«ver terms you want to establish, but please, I canβt live without all of you. Unnie, canβt you reconsider? If I misbehave, Iβll leave on my own. Please,β Elvira sniffled while Harriet stared at her for a long moment.
βWhat if you go on your words?β Harriet asked.
βI wonβt just leave; since I canβt live without you guys, Iβll kill myself,β Elvira said, causing Harriet to roll her eyes.
Elvira gently held Harrietβs hand, but unknown to her, someone appeared behind her. Harrietβs eyes widened as she clearly saw the unfamiliar figure.
βElvira, Harriet, watchβ¦β Before Elvire could complete her statement, they heard a loud groan.
βAhhhhβ¦β Elvira groaned as she looked up, realizing she had been pushed to the floor. Harriet had taken the stab meant for her. Elviraβs hands began to shake as she stared at Harriet bleed from the mouth.
β Unnie, no!β she screamed.
βLeave here, all of you!β Harriet muttered as she coughed out more blood . Slowly and steadily, she fell silent, and Zoraβs eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
βHarrietβ¦ No! no!β Elvire shook her head, tears streaming down her face. Harrietβs soul had left her body.
βWhy? Why are you after everyone in school? What exactly do you want? Iβm just nineteen, will I die like this?β Harrietβs soul asked, but the man in front of her only laughed. In an instant, he devoured Harrietβs soul, emitting a small groan of satisfaction.
Blueberry and Mu Yul, sensing that something was wrong, felt the ominous atmosphere surrounding the place. Their eyes widened.
βThe Soul Eaterβ¦β They faced each other and left the class. However, upon arriving, the Soul Eater was nowhere to be found; only the girls crying out loudly remained.
βThis is badβ¦ The schoolβs reputation could be ruined if this continues,β Blueberry muttered, wishing for evening to come quickly.
βWeβll have to stage this as a hit and run, then find a way to kill the demon. We must ensure that her soul survives so she can be reborn in the future,β Mu Yul said, and Blueberry sighed.
βDonβt tell anyone anything for now. Let the truth be within you until I kill the monster myself. Can you do that?β Blueberry faced the girls, but they couldnβt even speak, sitting next to Harrietβs lifeless body and crying.
At that moment, Emerald entered and let out a loud scream.
βHarriet!β She ran to the lifeless body.
βWhat happened?β she asked, while Blueberry scratched his head.
βI think Iβve done my best. I should go. I hope her death wonβt be remembered after sheβs buried,β He muttered and left the place with Mu Yul.
βIβll ask Yeomra what to do, though itβs been a long time,β Mu Yul said, and Blueberry nodded. He was about to take another step when he felt something strange.
βCecilia,β he muttered and used his super speed to make his way to the company.
β
**DAENG COMMERCIALS**
Cherry walked over to the coffee machine to make two cups. She discreetly took something out of her pocket and sprinkled a few particles into one of the coffees.
βOver my dead body will you take Jayden from me,β she muttered as she stirred the coffee. Glancing around and finding no one nearby, she returned the substance to her pocket. But as she turned to leave, someone grabbed her by the neck and began choking her.
The coffee cups slipped from Cherryβs hands as she struggled with her assailant. The unknown person smirked and released his grip.
βWho are you?β she coughed, trying to catch her breath. βAnd how the hell did you get into the company?β
βMe? Iβm Blueberry, and Iβm just here to give you a warning,β he said, his expression serious.
βIf you donβt stay away from my Cecilia, I wonβt hesitate to give you the poison you wanted to use on her. Donβt say I didnβt warn you. Iβm quite dangerous when something important to me is being messed with,β he warned, but his voice trailed off as he heard approaching footsteps.
βShh,β he whispered, quickly hiding. Cecilia walked in.
βHey, Cherry,β Cecilia greeted her with a smile, heading towards the coffee machine to pour herself a cup.
βIs something wrong? Why is there coffee spilled everywhere?β Cecilia asked when she noticed the mess. Cherry shook her head nervously.
βYou might h@tΓ« me, but trust me, I have no feelings or any sort of affection for Jayden. Itβs your choice whether to believe me or not. I hope youβll stop having the wrong idea about us,β Cecilia said before leaving the room. Blueberry emerged from his hiding spot.
βSheβs telling the truth. She doesnβt love Jayden, and they have no future together. Theyβre just friends and nothing more. So, if you try to harm her,β he paused, walking closer to Cherry, βIβm already in a bad mood, so if you mess with Cecilia, Iβll kill you,β He threatened. He turned to leave, but Cherry held him back.
βWho are you to Cecilia?β she asked.
βMe? Iβm her son. Iβm handsome arenβt I ?β He asked with a smirk. Before Cherry could respond, he disappeared from sight. She flinched and swallowed hard as she stared at the spilled coffee on the floor before quickly leaving the area and heading to Ceciliaβs office.
βWhat is it?β Cecilia asked as she entered.
βIs your son named Blueberry?β She asked. Cecilia frowned, not remembering ever mentioning Blueberryβs name.
βWhy?β Cecilia inquired.
βIβm just curious,β Cherry replied.
βHmm, thatβs his name. Have you seen him? I have two cute kids who are my source of joy,β Cecilia shared, trying to divert the topic. βSo forget about the ugly memories of Jayden and me.β
Cecilia was about to leave when she noticed Jayden at the door.
βSir?β Cherry addressed him.
βHave you been having strange thoughts about us?β Jayden asked, fully entering the office and dropping an envelope in front of Cecilia. She raised an eyebrow and slowly picked it up.
βAny more doubts, and youβre out of this company,β Jayden warned before leaving. However, he paused again.
βI have some work for you. Meet me in the office right now,β Jayden instructed Cherry before finally exiting the room.
Cecilia watched them leave and then opened the envelope, revealing docvments that required her signature to claim a house. Her eyes widened in surprise.
*****
News of Harrietβs death spread everywhere, although Mu Yul had made sure it appeared as though it didnβt happen near the school premises.
MARVINS were shocked and saddened since they knew Harriet and Elvire were the sensible ones among BEAUTIES. Harrietβs body was taken home, and her parents couldnβt stop crying. Even her younger sister shed tears.
βThis is so sad,β Devyn muttered, looking at Harrietβs parents. Lesley was reminded of how devastated her own parents had been and decided to leave so she wouldnβt witness more tears.
They stayed with the grieving family, but after hours of being there, people began to leave. Sweetheart checked his phone, hoping for a call or message from Valerie, but nothing happened.
βWhy am I so sad that I couldnβt save you?β Blueberry whispered to himself as he left the place with a heavy heart. Mu Yul approached him.
βAre you alright?β Mu Yul asked.
βI need to find out how to kill that monster. See you tomorrow at school,β Blueberry replied, his voice filled with determination. He left without another word. Devyn observed him and then glanced at Mu Yul, who smiled at her before walking away too.
Devyn looked around, searching for Lesley, but couldnβt find her anywhere. She eventually decided to go home alone.
β
βIβll need to leave tomorrow,β Catrina smiled sadly.
βDid you really die on stage?β Lesley asked, and Catrina sighed sadly.
βYou must really miss your parents.β
βStop talking, or else I wouldnβt want to go!β she shouted through tears. She had been enjoying Lesleyβs body for months, but now she had to leave. It was difficult, but she had no choice.
She wiped her eyes and lay on the bed, sobbing softly.
β
Valerie had been searching for someone for hours. He was tired and turned to leave when he bumped into someone.
βAre you okay?β the person asked, and Valerie looked up, only to see the person he had been looking for. His eyes widened.
βMrs. Wong ,β he called, and Mrs. Wong stared at him.
β You are?β She trailed off, staring at him closely.
β Valerie ? Dinaβs son?β She asked when realization dawned on her, and Valerie nodded.
β¦
Valerie and Mrs. Wong sat in her house, and Valerie explained the reason he was looking for her. He was there to gather information about his mom.
βOh, Dina and Henry? Isnβt that Ceciliaβs husband?β she asked, and Valerie nodded.
βWhy? Why are you asking about it?β
βPlease, I need to know. Because of my mom, I think I lost a friend. I mean, I lost the only girl I had ever loved,β He said. βSo please,β he pleaded, and the woman sighed.
βTruly, your mom had an affair, but youβre not Henryβs son. Josh is.β
βWhat?β
βDespite my warning, your mom was adamant and said she loved Henry. I was confused. I tried to make her see sense about Henry being married, yet she didnβt listen. She went on and kept malice with me. Then the next thing I heard was that she was pregnant with her second child, but by then, your dad was no longer alive,β the woman narrated. Valerie gulped, speechless.
βAnd the incidentβ¦ You heard about my school being shut down too, right?β He managed to ask.
βAh, that poor girl, Devyn, who was bathed with acid?β the woman asked, and Valerie nodded slightly.
β
βShould we go check on Valerie?β Maikel suggested. Before the others could reply, Sweetheart was already standing.
βHmm, we should do that,β he said, and Nash nodded slowly. As if the rest of the boys were waiting for it, they all stood up to prepare.
They finished and headed into two cars as they drove out of the school premises, heading to Valerieβs place.
The drive took a while, but they eventually saw Valerie walking absentmindedly.
βIs something wrong with him?β Ian asked as Rema parked the car. The boys all stepped out.
βValerie?β Sweetheart called, but he received no answer. He crossed the road to reach Valerie. Just as he got to him, a car approached them at high speed, as if its brakes had failed or were tampered with.
βWatch out!β the rest of the boys shouted. Sweetheart quickly pulled Valerie alongside himself out of harmβs way, but his head landed on a rock, and blood gushed out profusely.
βSweetheartβ¦β Valerie called, but there was no response. The other boys noticed this and couldnβt even move a step.
βSweetheart!β Maikel and Nash whispered as they were the first to rush to the scene. Rema immediately got into the car and drove towards them.
βYou want to die?β they heard Sweetheart weakly say.
βSweetheartβ¦β they all chorused.
βDonβt call me that. It sounds weird,β he said, coughing up blood.
βWeβll get you to the hospital, and youβll be fine.β
βI know. Iβm strong. I wonβt die easily,β he said and fell silent again. He was placed into the car, and they drove off roughly until they reached the hospital.
He was rushed into the operating room, and the surgery began immediately. His parents were called, but they were on a business trip, so they could only make it the next day.
The boys paced restlessly in front of the operating room.
β
NEXT DAY
Blueberry left his room, a smirk lingering on his lips.
βSo, thatβs all it takes to kill that monster? Tch,β he scoffed.
βI think my mission ends there then,β he said again, and his eyes met with Devynβs, locking gaze with her. Cecilia stared at them, and chuckled.
βYou like her?β She asked, and Blueberry diverted his gaze to Cecilia, who was now at the dining table, drinking milk.
β Yes, I like her,β he replied, and Cecilia choked.
βReally? She doesnβt like you back?β
βWho cares? Iβll be leaving after her third wish anyway, so itβs a good thing itβs not mutual,β He said, walking to meet Cecilia. Devyn simply rolled her eyes.
βToday is the beginning of the competition. It actually fell on a bad day. Why did Harriet have to die?β Devyn muttered sadly.
βWeβll be moving to our new home, soon β
βNew home?β Blueberry asked, and Devyn nodded.
βJayden gifted us a house.β
βCongrats, and I need to go now. Mu Yul and I have some business to settle,β He said and stood up.
βWishing you luck,β He said to Devyn and left the house.
βYeah, and you too,β She replied as she began eating quickly so she wouldnβt be late.
β
The hall was full while MARVINS were still in their residence. The operation was a success, but Sweetheart hadnβt regained consciousness.
Miss Rachel had asked them to come, as Sweetheart wouldnβt be happy if they didnβt show up for the show.
βFor Sweetheartβs sake, letβs go, and after the show, weβll head back to the hospital,β Alistair said, and the boys left their residence with sad faces. Seeing them like that, the other students were worried.
They entered the hall and sat as judges. The principal was also present, along with other teachers.
βWe said it was going to be in two places, but no, itβs just this one, so put up your best,β Miss Rachel said, and like that, the students were called out one after the other to sing.
The boysβ minds werenβt there, just their physical selves, as their spirits and minds were not with the other students. Soon after, the teachers began receiving messages and calls, so they left the hall. The principal also left, except for Miss Rachel. Mu Yul and Blueberry exchanged glances.
βThe evil man is here,β he and Mu Yul muttered, but immediately, the doors locked with the other teachers outside.
Miss Rachel began laughing like a witch, her laughter echoing in the hall.
βAnd today, every one of you will die,β She said. Blueberry and Mu Yul exchanged glances.
βSheβs possessed,β Blueberry said with a smirk.
β Get me the sword of hell. I know how to kill him.β
βWonβt Rachel die?β Mu Yul asked, but Blueberry didnβt reply.
β Donβt die β Mu Yul said and disappeared. The lights in the hall kept flickering, and the students screamed.
A notification appeared on Maikelβs phone, and as soon as he viewed it, his phone slipped from his hands because it read:
π¬ βCOME TO THE HOSPITALβ¦ WE LOST THE PATIENT β
The othersβ mouths went agape in shock.
β
βWhat are you doing here?β Yeomra asked, stopping Mu Yul from retrieving the sword.
βI need to kill that man myselfβ He said.
Yeomra sighed.
βStill wondering how you died, Felix?β She asked, and Mu Yul stared at her.
β I gave you the name Mu Yul. You were being maltreated by your dad, Mr. Peterson, after the death of your mom.β
βYou ended up killing your dad to be free, but that same night, you were involved in a hit-and-run accident, and thatβs how you died. Being a grim reaper was the punishment I could ask for on your behalf,β Yeomra said.
βSo, I died at the age of twelve? Weβll talk about this later. Many lives are at stakeβ he said, turning to leave.
βThe box at the altar. Arenβt you curious about whatβs inside?β she asked, and his steps faltered.
βWhatβs inside is the real reason you were sent to Earth,β
βHere, thatβs Devynβs voice,β Yeomra handed him the box.
βWhat?β
βYou were sent to exchange her life with her voice. Bring back her soul tomorrow because she died thirteen years ago during the incident.β
βWhat?β
βIt was our bargain. She gave up her voice to get another chance,β Yeomra said, and Mu Yul blinked in disbelief.
βWhat?β Mu Yul stuttered, not believing his ears.
