“My love? Ivy? Talk to me” Mr Xuan rubbed his wife’s back
They were currently sitting on the stairs and the paramedics ran past them to take Miriam and Sofie,the forensics were also present together with the police
“One two three let’s go!” the paramedics placed them on the stretchers and left with them
“I’ll follow in my car you two go with them” grandpa Paul said to grandma Daisy and Millicent
“You coming?” Millicent looked at Abigail
“No,Randy needs me… he’s probably scared and confused because of ..you know” she said softly
“Of course” she nodded and got into the ambulance
“Don’t forget to update me!” she shouted and Millicent nodded
“Mrs Xuan, you have to come with us to the police station for questioning” the Sargent approached them
“Are you arresting my wife!? She already told you it was self defence!” Mr Xuan lashed out and stood up
“Hold on sir, I’m not arresting here I’m only taking her in for questioning” he said calmly
“My wife is in no condition to—”
“It’s okay Maxwell” Mrs Xuan muttered lowly and stood up and looked at the sargent “You just want me to make a statement right?”
“Yes and ask you few questions”
“I’m coming with you” Mr Xuan said and they left

SOMEWHERE IN THE WOODS
Catherine groaned in pain and tried to move but she couldn’t…her body was sore all over,she heard a distant voice and furrowed her brows and opened her eyes
“Ahh finally the beauty queen is awake, hey” Anderson waved at her
Catherine looked at him and sat up,she was laying on the ground and there was a chain on her foot which was clamped and tied to the tree with a bigger lock
“Let me go you monster!” she shouted
“Ohh no,how could I when you and I are destined to be together? But you chose that bloody brother of mine!” he corked his gun and pointed at her
“Wh..What do you want?” she trembled and held her tummy protectively
“That bastard child was supposed to die” he pointed at her tummy “It was supposed to be only me and you…how about I kill it first then you and I will go to heaven together huh” he grinned
“D.. Don’t do anything to my child please! My child is innocent” she cried
“You know..” he walked towards her “I h@të you so bad,I h@të you for looking at another man,I h@të you for lusting over another” he grabbed a handful of her hair “I h@të you for opening your legs for another man,you know what I h@të more? That the other man is my Fuçkin brother!” he pulled her hair hard and tucked out some hair strands from her scalp
“Ahhhh!!! Stop please!” she yelped in pain
Her scalp was burning and her head was pounding that it felt heavy above her shoulders
He sniffed the hair strands in his hand and laughed out like a maniac
“Amen” he smirked at her and grabbed her hair once more and dragged her away
Catherine screamed and tried to hold on to the roots of the tree but her hands simply slipped away,she kicked and tried to get away from his grip but the further she got away from his grip the more pain she had to endure from her head
He pushed her to the ground and she held her tummy protectively and cried out
“Now let’s get rid of that bastard and then you and I …but wait , let’s have some fun first” he unbuckled his belt
“Wha…wha…what are you doing? Do.. Don’t you dare touch me!” she slowly crawled back
Thorns pierced into her skin but she cared less about it,fear of losing her child mattered most to her
He got hold of her other foot and pulled her towards him and she screamed her lungs out while trying to kick him off but he didn’t flinch at all
“Stop struggling!” he groaned through gritted teeth
“Let go of her!!” said a rough voice with so much anger laced in it and they both turned
“X..Xavier? Xavier!” Catherine crawled towards him and Anderson pulled the chain and dragged her back
“You bastard!” Xavier was about to rush towards them but what Anderson said next made him freeze on his spot
“Landmines brother,you know I wouldn’t think about taking another step if I were you” he smirked “I knew one way or another you will find us and I planned everything,now I want you to stand there helpless and watch as I take everything you love from you just like you did all these years”
“This is between us I swear if you lay a finger on her I will end you!” he roared
Anderson laughed and looked at Catherine
“Your lover is quite feisty but alas, he’s helpless” he shrugged “I’m going to enjoy this!” he smirked and hit Catherine with the back of the gun on her face and she fell back
Xavier took out a gun and shot him twice on the arm and the gun fell free from his hand
“Fuçk you!” Andes groaned and held his arm in pain and stepped back and leaned against a tree
“I told you not to touch her” he muttered
“You took her from me! You took everything from me! Everyday everytime I had to be compared to you while you were the perfect golden child!” he shouted with glassy eyes “You always tried to outstand me,no matter what I did was never enough in the eyes of our parents but every little thing you did was a huge achievement that needed a Fuçkin trophy and a red carpet” His voice broke
“That’s not true—”
“Like hell it isn’t! She was supposed to be mine till death did us apart but you ruined things for me,you took the only thing that mattered to me from me! I will end you! I will end you all!” he spat out
“You always wanted to do all I did,in a better version but what did it bring back? Disappointment.How can you try to prove yourself when you always try to be someone you’re not? Little brother you did everything to yourself, everything falls on your shoulders but nothing justifies what you just did and here is what I promise you now Chico, you’re never going to forget the name Xavier even in your next life, wherever you go I will haunt you like I’m dead dear brother” he muttered sternly
“X..Xavier” Catherine muttered inaudible as soon she regained consciousness
“I,Xavier vow to be your worst nightmare,you know why? You touched what’s mine! You took what’s mine,she was never yours to begin with…her name was carved right here” he ripped off his shirt and pointed at Catherine’s name tattoed just above the place where his heart is “Every beat of her heart echoed together with mine,every breath she took was a count added to my lifetime because I can’t do without her,not even you can take her away from me! Because even death has to seek my permission before it embraces her” he muttered calmly
“That doesn’t matter now because both your lives depend on me” he pointed a gun at Catherine who was trying to get up
“You don’t have the guts Chico,you need immerse h@të to take one’s life and you’re just a sissy, that’s why your own father thought you wouldn’t survive in our world” he said calmly
“Right” he chuckled “Did my ‘own’ father tell you who your mother is? You look quite surprised brother,you didn’t know right? Call your father and tell him to be a man and come here to tell you”
“I’m not going to do that”
“Fine I will do it for you” he took out his phone and dialled Mr Xuan’s number and he answered after a while
“Come your dead son,out of town in the woods” he didn’t want for him to respond and hung up
“Let my wife go!” Xavier pointed a gun at him
“I won’t—”
“I said let her go! You know I wouldn’t to scatter your brain” he thundered
“This isn’t over” he walked towards Catherine slowly and unlocked the lock on the chain and took it off her
“You’re right about that,this isn’t over until I say so” he muttered and took a step forward
“Wh…What are you doing?” Anderson stuttered
“One thing about me,is that I cross all limits whether love or hatred” he took light steps further more “I embrace them and now my love is in danger and my hatred for you is at its peak,god knows what I’m going to do to you”
“D.. Don’t you dare come closer you’re gonna get us killed!” he shouted with bulged out eyes and stepped back
“Death is what you wanted the moment you touched what belongs to me,there are no landmines here we both know it, you’re just intimidated by my presence,my closeness scares you” he chuckled “Dear brother you need a heart of stone to pull something like this off”
“There are! And two more steps you’re a dead man!” he shouted in panic
“I don’t care if I die,as long as I get to get rid of you”
“X…Xavier d… don’t please” Catherine muttered with all the strength she had
“Farewell brother” He pulled the trigger and shot him on both his knees

AT THE HOSPITAL
Mrs Xuan hurried on her steps and when she saw her family she practically ran
The family saw her and their faces lit up
“My daughter, you’re free” Grandma Daisy sobbed and they fell into each other’s arms
“Not really,but they let me go for now” they let go of each other “But,how are they?”
“Welcome back daughter” Grandpa Paul said and she muttered a ‘thank you’
“Mom” Millicent hugged her tight
“I’m sorry for everything” Mrs Xuan whispered
“You don’t have to apologise,Sofie and her mother are at fault,not you” Millicent smiled at her “It’s going to be okay”
“The doctor hasn’t updated us yet,where is your husband?” Grandpa asked
“He left in a rush,he said that Xavier was in danger and i couldn’t understand a word since it happened so fast” she stated
“In danger? Call them dear,find out where they’re” Grandma Daisy rushed her words in panic and Grandpa Paul excused himself and called them
The doctor approached them and Alex got up from his bench,he was sitting a bit further away from them
“Doctor how are they?” he asked worriedly and the rest of the family gathered closer to hear the news
“Mrs McQueen is stabilised meaning she’s okay,her injury wasn’t minor so she should be awake anytime—”
“Then what about my child?” Alex interrupted the doctor “Sofie? How are they doing?” he panicked
“Unfortunately Miss McQueen is in a critical condition and the foetus might suffocate in her womb,in that case we have to operate to remove the foetus” the doctor muttered
“Will they be alright?” Grandma Daisy chipped in
“There’s no guarantee but what I can say is that it’s a 50/50 chance, there’s a slim chance that they’ll both survive, please prepare for the worst..the next 24 hours will be more critical” he sighed sadly
“Do everything you can to save the baby” Grandpa Paul said sternly and everyone looked at him
“No! Make sure by all means they both survive” Alex barked and glared at grandpa Paul
The doctor nodded slowly and turned to leave
“After everything she did you still care? I thought you don’t live her anymore” Grandpa Paul looked at Alex
“No matter what she did, she’s only human and just because I don’t love her, doesn’t mean I want her to die like that,I don’t have a stone heart Mr Xuan, please excuse me” Alex walked away fuming in anger
The police came into the hospital afterwards and marched to Miriam’s ward,they came back with her after a while handcuffed
She glared at the Xuan family one by one until her eyes landed on Mrs Xuan,her head was bandaged
“I will be out soon! I will end you Ivy I swear!!” she was about to pounce on Mrs Xuan but a policeman dragged her back and pushed her out
“I can’t believe it’s finally over” Mrs Xuan muttered while staring at Miriam who was ranting as a policeman pushed her out
“It’s over mom” Millicent walked towards her and hugged her
»»AFTER SOME HOURS
The doctor finally came out of the ward and walked towards them
Alex sprang up from his seat and rushed towards him
“How are they?” he quickly rushed his words
“The operation went well,the foetus is okay fortunately but with the mother…we ran a few tests and I’m sorry to say that she has mental complications that we are still trying to—”
“Will she be okay or not!” Alex cut him off
“No, I’m going to suggest you find a specialist for her and immediately start her treatment,excuse me” he muttered and walked away

IN THE WOODS
Xavier pulled the trigger and shot Anderson on both legs
Anderson groaned in pain and fell on both knees
Xavier threw the gun on the ground and picked up a hard dried wooden stick,he approached Anderson with it and held tight to it
“X..Xavier don’t! ” Catherine crawled towards him slowly
Xavier paid deaf ears and pierced the sharp part of the stick into Anderson wounds
“Ahhhh!! Stop!” Anderson cried out in pain
“How does it feel huh?” Xavier muttered and drove the stick into his wound further more
He pulled it out and looked at the blood stain on the stick and held it tight and the memories of when Anderson beat Catherine and dragged her came back and drove him mad that he beat the hell out of him targeting his wounds mostly
“X…Xavier pl…pl…please stop you’re gonna kill him!” Catherine shouted
Xavier stopped for a moment and looked at his brother’s bloody body
He looked at him one last time and was about to hit his head when he heard his father shoot behind him
“Xavier! Don’t son”
Xavier turned to look at his father and a tear slipped from his eye
💭“Did my ‘own’ father tell you who your mother is? You look quite surprised brother,you didn’t know right? Call your father and tell him to be a man and come here to tell you”
He turned to Anderson and slowly lifted the stick aiming for his head
“XAVIER!!” Mr Xuan shouted and ran towards them but he was too far and before he could reach them Xavier swayed his hands and sent the stick to Anderson’s head
Mr Xuan paused on his tracks in disbelief,he was panting heavily from running
Xavier turned to him slowly and let go of the stick
“Who is my mother?” he asked in a deep calm voice
“Son—”
“Who is my mother Mr Xuan!” he shouted
“Okay okay!” he hesitated before blurting out the truth “Her name is Harriet,sh…she left us when you were just three years old…she—”
“You lied to me” his voice broke “You Fuçkin lied to me!!!” he thundered
“I’m sorry I….I” he stuttered and looked at Xavier “X.. Xavier? Xavier look out!!!” he shouted and reached for Xavier but he was too late
Anderson already pulled the trigger behind them and shot Xavier
“Xavier…Xavier!!!” Catherine shouted
Xavier fell weakly on his father and Mr Xuan laid him down slowly
“S…Son! Don’t close your eyes,stay with us” he begged and tapped his cheeks
“Xavier!” Catherine got up with all her might and limped towards Xavier and fell next to him “Xavier please don’t leave me!” she cried
“Mi amor” he called out weakly and gave her a bloody smile “It’s okay..D.. Don’t cry” he whispered
“Xavier please don’t do this to me” she begged “Don’t you dare leave me! You’re gonna make it okay? If you don’t I would die please!” she cried her heart out
“I…I love you” He muttered before his eyes rolled to the back
“X..Xavier? Xavier do… don’t you dare do that! Please wake up Baby it’s me I’m here!” she shook him roughly “P…please say something! Please look at me and tell me you’re leaving here with me please!!” she shouted
“B..Blood?” Mr Xuan stared at her “Daughter we have to get you to the hospital now! We can’t be lose the baby” he quickly dialled a man and called “Come here quickly Don! No leave the car it will take longer just get your butt over here!” he hung up
“N..No no I’m not going anywhere! I’m not leaving Xavier!” Catherine protested
“No you have to go to the hospital” Mr Xuan stood up and pulled Catherine up and pulled her away
“No No I’m not leaving! Xavier!!!” she cried out and looked back at Xavier and held out her hand like he was going to get up and hold it and pull him towards her,hug him tight and tell her it’s all going to be okay

“XAVIER!!!!!!” She screamed her lungs out and pushed with all her might
A cry of a baby echoed in the whole ward as a nurse wrapped the baby with a mini blanket
“It’s a baby boy!” the nurse grinned and looked at Catherine
“Please can I see him?” she asked softly and the nurse nodded and gave her the baby gently and she smiled at her little baby boy
Tears fell free from her eyes as she saw the resemblance the baby shared with Xavier
“Miracle,my Miracle” she laughed and planted a soft peck on the baby’s forehead
