Chapter Seventeen
Richard woke up to find himself in an unfamiliar room.
Where was he? What happened? He thought as he tried to recollect some of his memory.
He remembered following Hillary into the elevator. He remembered seeing someone trying to push something on her but he had pulled her out of danger only to be injured himself.
He tried to move, only to feel a sharp pain at his head. His groaning must have be loud because Hillary was by his side immediately.
“Are you okay? Do you feel pains? Should I get the doctor?”She asked looking very worried.
Her eyes were puffy and red. Had she been crying he thought as he stared at her with out answering.
“I will get the doctor”She said as she turned to leave only for him to stop her by holding her hand.
“What’s wrong? “She asked having that worried look in her face.
She was worried about him. He knew it doesn’t mean a thing but knowing that she was worried about him. Made him happy.
“Talk to me,Richard. Maybe I should go and get the doctor……”
“Just stay…..stay with me”He spoke for the first time and she let out a sigh of relief.
“You fool. You should telling me to get the doctor”She let out gently.
“Maybe I don’t need a doctor”He answered as she moved to press the emergency button.
“You need one. You have been out for three days”She replied.
“Three days? Was it that bad?”He asked
“Yes. You should be lucky that it isn’t worst. The flower pot weighed a lot of soil. If it had fell….if it had fell on me….I wouldn’t be here now”She said as she sat down starring at him wistfully.
“That was why I pulled you away. I would rather have it fall on me than for it to fall on you”Richard replied with every sincerity but the look she gave him told him that she still doubted his words.
“Well. Thank you. You saved me and the child”She returned giving him a smile.
“I don’t think saying thank you alone will satisfy me”He said cheekily.
“What more do you want?”
“You know what I want! Its been three days. You have had three days to think about it” he said wanting to use this opportunity to his advantage.
“Have already given you my answer. I don’t want to marry you. Right now all I want is to have this child and live peacefully. But I doubt that” she said with a sad expression.
“Do you think your grandmother is capable enough to pull that stunt?”She added before he could say a thing.
“I have no idea what she is capable of. Have only seen her angry but have never seen her in action. She told me numerous times that she h@tëd me. If she h@tëd me enough to do this. I won’t forgive her”Richard said fiercely.
“What do you mean by your grandma hating you?” She asked getting his attention.
“Its nothing. Its just a phrase I use each time”He said trying to evade her questions.
“You never told me about yourself six years ago. Am hoping you will get to tell me now. Though am nothing to you at least consider the child in me and make me understand. ” She said but the doctor arrived to prevent that.
As soon as the doctor left. Confirming that he was okay but needed to stay at the hospital another day to be watched. Hillary picked up the issue.
Reluctantly. Richard told her about his ill relationship with the only relative he had.
“I added fuel to her hatred when I found out about my father infidelity to my mom just three years ago. It had been the day before his death. I found out that he had married Celine who is my step mom just a year after my mom death. I got so angry that I lashed out at him. I told him terrible words. He had left that night only to get into an accident. She blames me for her son death and I blame myself too”He said starring at her.
Somehow she understand him a little. Part of this had led to him growing up to be the way he is.
“I must have been a fool right? Just a few years before that incident. I had tried to get you out of his life by seducing you and hurting you. I succeeded. I thought I had won but it all fell apart when my mother died and just a year after her death. My father married someone else. It must be karma right?”He asked trying to soothe his hurt.
“It might be and it might not be”Hillary returned.
“You should be telling me that I deserved it”He muttered almost to himself.
“And let you off easily. Well no. You will have to pay me back for all the damage you have caused in my life “She said as she moved towards him.
“And how would I get to pay you back”
“By getting strong and showing your grandmother that you are not weak”She returned only to receive a smile from him.
“Rest a bit. My mother will be coming in the evening to take charge while I head back home to take a rest”Hillary informed him.
“Your mom?”
“Yes. Somehow she already thinks of you as her son in law. She has been here for the past three days to check on you. She will be thrilled to know you are awake”She said as she turned to pick her handbag only for him to pull her back.
The pulling got her close to him that he could Smell the cologne she used.
“I don’t really deserve this but still thank you “he said starring at her flushed face.
“You don’t have to thank me. Am just doing this for….” She didn’t get to finish her word because he kissed her.
Hillary tried to move away but his hold was a bit strong and he held her tight to him.
He pulled her to him. Deepening the kiss while one of his hand pinned her to him. The other roamed her body.
Hillary who had always loathe it when men touched her didn’t find it loathing. Instead she moved closer. Pressing herself to him.
It was the arrival of someone walking in that separated them.
Her mother stood by the door. Eyes wide and mouth open.
“I didn’t mean to stop the moment. You can get on with it, I will leave so you ……..”
“No. Stay and take care of him. I will be back tomorrow”Hillary said as she quickly picked up her stuffs heading out of the room.
She stopped midway touching her lips. Why did she let that happen. She loathe his touch. So why did she let him touch her?.
She was lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice Stella Watson walking towards her.
“Judging from the look on your face. You have just finish talking to my grandson”She said making known of her presence.
“Hello Mrs S…..”
“Its Madam. Every one that knows me refers to me as Madam and you won’t be an exception even though you are carrying the next Watson heir”She said eyeing Hillary stomach.
“Am surprised to see you here, Madam Watson.”Hillary returned.
“I came to see my grandson”She replied
“Really? He has been admitted here for three days and you never bothered to show up then. Why come now or perhaps do you have someone spying on him?”Hillary asked.
“What’s it to you what I do with my grandson. From what I know you are only expecting his child. What right do you have to meddle in the Watson affair?”She questioned.
“You should mind your manners. You are nothing and if it isn’t for the child you are carrying. You will be long gone. You are being an headache and I make sure all headache disappear”She added when Hillary didn’t say a thing.
“Just like you tried to make me disappear three days ago? When everything was pointed at you. I still kept on believing that you wouldn’t…..even though you h@të me , you wouldn’t try to harm the child but you just confessed yourself.” Hillary said.
“Are you saying that I tried to harm you three days ago?” She asked.
“It can only be your doing you evil witch!”Hillary spoke as she couldn’t control her anger.
“What did you just say?”
“I said you are a…..”Hillary didn’t get to finish her word because Stella slapped her.
“How dare you? Just who the hell do you think you are? “she questioned as Hillary stared at her.
All the anger and resentment she felt towards her for Richard came out in a rush.
“I have every right to call you what I want cause I will be the next Watson bride”She stated.
“What?”
“You heard me! Richard proposed to me and I said yes. You will now have to deal with having me as the new bride in your family cause as soon as Richard is well. I will get married to him”Hillary stated.
“Hillary” On hearing her mother voice. She turned to see her mother standing there along with Richard starring at them both.
