Chapter Eighteen
Hillary wished the earth would open and swallow her up.
She had been angry. Riled up by Stella Watson and had spoken out of anger. What she hadn’t been expecting is that Richard and her mother would over hear her angry outburst.
“What did you just say?”Stella Watson asked Hillary, who had gone all quiet after seeing Richard.
“You heard her grandma. I proposed to Hillary and she agreed to be my wife. She will be next Watson bride”Richard stated as he moved towards them possesively curving a arm around Hillary.
“I can’t believe this! You really will have her as your bride?”Stella asked incredulously.
“Yes. She is the mother of my child and also, am crazy about her. Am delighted that she has agreed to marry me”Richard replied cheerfully and that earned him a look from Hillary. He smiled at her and she found herself wondering if he is playing along with the situation.
“And my say wouldn’t matter?”Stella asked.
“It wouldn’t. It never mattered in the first place. I doubt it will matter now. So I suggest you leave. As you can see am Just recuperating from your doing. So it’s best that you leave”Richard asserted firmly.
“Do you really think I caused this accident ?”she questioned, starring at the both of them.
“Your the only one who wants the child gone. If I hadn’t got in the way. Hillary would have been killed”He lashed out making sure his voice was low to prevent Hillary mother from hearing them.
“Just go. Seeing you here makes me worried” He added as he pulled Hillary back to his room. Leaving his grandmother standing there.

“I don’t know where to start. When is the date? We need to hire some caterers. I could get Matilda to do the decoration. The party will be held in a garden, have always long for a garden wedding and the dress! We need to get you to a boutique to organise all……”
“Now wait a minute mom! Let’s not rush things”Hillary stated interrupting her mother who was already thinking of the arrangements.
“Why? The earlier the better. Don’t you think so Richard?”Brenda asked eagerly.
“I agree with your mom,Hillary.”Richard replied as he held her hand.
Hillary gave him a look which told him not to be hasty with things, but he clearly ignored it.
“I think a garden wedding would be lovely and as for the cost of the preparation. Charge it to my account . I only want the best for Hillary”Richard continued gravely.
“Well said my boy. I will go and start with the preparation. There is so much to do and then……”She stopped suddenly giving them both a bothering look.
“Doesn’t your grandmother approve?cause she was all grumpy earlier. I couldn’t hear what you guys were discussing but judging from the look in your expression . I could tell that it’s something serious”She said starring at the two couple.
“You don’t have to worry Mrs. Raven. My grandmother wouldn’t be a problem. Hillary is the girl have chosen and I will be getting married to her”He answered smoothly. Earning a loving smile from her mother.
As soon as she left. Hillary pulled her hand from his. “You shouldn’t have build her hopes up” she stated fiercely.
“I wasn’t doing that and besides we are getting married for real”He replied warmly.
“You very well know that I said that out of anger. I didn’t mean what I said. I don’t want to marry you”Hillary returned frostily.
“Are we still on that?”Richard asked frowning at her.
“Yes we are. We don’t love each other, I don’t even like you. If we are going to have the marriage solely for the child in me then it won’t work. It will be a total flop and I…..”
“I don’t feel the same way you do”Richard said cutting her off.
“What?”
“You are wrong in thinking I don’t feel a thing for you” he replied.
“What do you mean?”
“I would admit that I had first considered marriage because of the child. But that changed when I realised that I wanted you for myself. Not because of the child but because I like you”He answered her, hoping she would believe him. But what she did next altered that thought.
She laughed softly “You made a fool of me once. Do you expect me to believe you now?” She asked.
He winced. She is right in not trusting him, after all he made her this way.
“I was a fool in the past. I didn’t cherish what we both had in the past but……”
“Don’t try to make excuses. What you did back then marked me for life. I hardly trust people of your sëx. I didn’t even want to get close to them. I told myself to forget the past and live the future but it didn’t work. And now your expecting me to take you! The root of my problem . You want me to forget the past and get married to you? That won’t be possible”Hillary replied hotly. Letting out her frustration.
“I can’t redeem myself for what happened In the past but I can do my best to make up for everything you have been through. Like I said before, I was a fool in the past and I lost you. The only good thing in my life. I won’t make the same mistake twice. Let me make it up to you by marrying you”He suggested but she shaked her head negatively.
“I can’t. I don’t want to marry you.”She replied and walked off leaving him starring after her.

“You are doing fine Mr. Watson. You can be discharged tomorrow”The doctor Torres who was having a look at his file stated to his patient.
“That fast? Don’t I need to get more treatment? I still feel dizzy and get frequent headache” Richard said not wanting to get discharged.
Hillary is once again putting a barrier between them. He couldn’t leave now. He had to be around her, to show how much he cared and regret the past.
He had been a fool then. He had treated her badly and ruined her love for him. If it had happened to him too. He would find it hard to trust someone again. But he had to convince her and the only way to do that is by being around her.
“You will receive a drug for that. Its just your body reaction to the blow you suffered. In due time it will recess, but there is no need to keep you here”The doctor replied.
“There is! I need to stay here. At least I need to recover first”He said sharply.
“Wouldn’t that be a bother to you?”The doctor asked.
“It won’t. I just have to make sure am well enough before leaving the hospital”Richard added with conviction.
“Fine then. If you wish to recuperate here. You can do so Mr. Watson.”He said softly.
“One more thing. I need you to do something for me”Richard said giving him a grin.
THE NEXT DAY
Hillary ran into the hospital. It was meant to be her day off and she had decided to spend it away from the hospital, and away from Richard.
His confesssion the other day had got her thinking. She wanted to spend the day by herself brooding over it, but it got be impossible because, she got a call from the hospital saying that Richard was being rushed to the ICU ( intensive care unit).
He had been fine yesterday. What had gone wrong? Hilary thought as she took the elevator to the ICU floor.
She found doctor Torres waiting by the front door and on seeing her. The doctor came to her.
“What happened? He was alright yesterday”Hillary asked waiting for his reply.
“A nurse had administered a wrong drug, and it had gone hay wire. Why I called you is because he refuses to be treated. He wants to see you”Doctor Torres told her.
“Is he crazy? Don’t listen to him. Just perform the operation and save his life”Hillary said fiercely.
“We tried that but he has threatened to sue us if we lay a hand on him. You know our hospital isn’t has grand as the others. Just go and see him like he requested and let us begin the surgery”The doctor suggested softly and quickly Hillary put on her gown and went into the ICU to him.
