CHAPTER FIFTY THREE
AT THE HOSPITAL
Alondria sat beside Jared who was still unconscious.
He’s been like that since she got to the hospital after Asher called her.
This should be the first time she saw him look vulnerable.
He wasn’t moving, he wasn’t frowning, he just looked like a very harmless male spread out on the hospital bed.
Asher was out with Scarlet as they went to get some snacks.
Her mind drifted to what the doctor said to them earlier.
They were told that aside from the injuries from the brutal beating he received, Jared had stomach hemorrhage which is as a result of so much consumption of alcohol which led to gastric mucosal damage and bleeding.
If he wasn’t brought to the hospital on time, the situation would have been worse, he said.
Why would you consume so much alcohol, are you out of your mind, she scolded the sleeping Jared but got no answer, not like she expected to get one.
She couldn’t hold back the tears that threatened to fall as she allowed them grace her delicate face slowly.
Seeing him looking all wrapped in bandage amd unconscious isn’t something she ever imagined for someone as tough as her husband.
Its all your fault, her subconscious told her and she didn’t fight it.
She knew it was her fault.
If she had forgiven him, he wouldn’t go about drinking but she couldn’t seem to figure out why he seemed so bothered and all worked up about the divorce when he never loved her.
Please wake up Jared, you are beginning to scare me, she whispered.
Staring at his face she and seeing how weak he looked, she thinks she prefers him looking all tough, this fragile person on the bed isn’t her husband.
Her neck and back were aching as she has been sitting in that position all day, slowly she adjusted then leaned in to place her head on the pillow.
Just then Jared hands which she had hers wrapped around it twitched.
Jared? she called looking at his face
Jared? Jared, you can do it, open your eyes, I can feel you, she rushed her words with tears in her eyes.
She didn’t want it to be just a teaser, she wanted his eyes open, she wanted him to be fine again, to see her.
Baby? Jared muttered as he twisted his face in pain.
Jared you are awake! Alondria half yelled in excitement.
Argh! Jared groaned.
Relax, your body isn’t in the right shape, I’ll go call the doctor okay, Alondria said but Jared refused to let go of her hand.
Baby, I’m sorry, he begged.
I should get the doctor.
Please, i can’t survive anymore without you, please forgive me.
Jared, I have forgiven you.
But you still want to leave, I don’t want you to leave me.
Why? You never wanted this marriage, why are you acting concerned now? Alondria asked with a frown.
I’m not acting… I Füçking… Jared was about saying when a nurse strolled in.
Füçk, he cursed as he glared at the nurse.
What do you want? he snapped.
Jared! she just wants to check up on you, Alondria said
I should get the doctor, Alondria said and walked off before Jared could speak.
The nurse turned to him then began walking towards him with a flirty smile.
You are finally awake cutie,she said touching his cheeks.
Get out, Jared said in a calm tone.

Get out! Jared yelled this time as he pushed her off him and she landed her butt on the floor.
What’s going on here? the doctor who just walked in with Alondria strolling behind him asked on seeing his nurse on the floor crying.
I did nothing sir, he pushed me, she cried.
Alondria stared at her then at Jared who wasn’t looking at anyone else but his wife.
Are you sure Jared pushed you? Alondria asked and she nodded.
And you did nothing? she asked again.
What sort of question is that? he clearly pushed me! did I fall on my own? the nurse yelled still on the floor shedding crocodile tears.
That’s enough, you can leave, the doctor said to her and she quickly got up to leave.
Not so fast, Alondria said with a smile.
My husband said you were flirting with him, is that what you all nurses do at this hospital? Alondria asked and the nurses eyes widened.
How did he… that’s not true… he was the one who wanted to take advantage of me, your husband is a stinking womanizer! the nurse yelled.
Shut up Clara! the doctor scolded her.
He wanted to take advantage of you and you gave your consent right?

Tender your resignation letter and leave afterwards, the doctor said without looking at her then he faced Jared.
I’m so sorry boss, he said with a slight bow.
Boss? the nurse muttered staring at them.
She wanted to plead, but it was useless, her boss seems loyal to the patient she just lied against.
How could she make such a mistake?
Slowly, she walked away with tears in her eyes.
He’s fine now but he will be needing a lot of rest and care, the doctor said to Alondria.
I’m sorry about earlier, Boss lady, he added
Its fine, she replied and he walked away after sharing a slight nod with Jared.
They were both left alone again.
Why did he call you boss? Alondria asked walking towards the chair beside the bed.
He’s one of us, Jared said simply still stating at her.

You don’t need to say a word, I already know you won’t flirt with her, Alondria replied.
Why? You trust me now? Jared asked in excitement.

Here I am thinking I’m getting closer, Jared muttered but Alondria heard him.
Asher should be on his way, you are feeling a lot better, I have to go, Alondria said standing up.
Why are you here? Jared asked and she paused.
What do you mean?
If you h@të me so much that you can’t be comfortable breathing the same air with me, why did you come? Why did you stay for hours waiting for me to wake up? Why show concern like you really care when you don’t! Jared snapped.
He doesn’t care if he was sounding like a fusspot, all he knew was that right now he’s a nervous wreck, he might break down again if care is not taken.
You went and drank your self to stupor, got beaten up and you couldn’t fight back, you let yourself get treated like a weakling, for what exactly? Alondria asked.
That’s not the answer to my qiestuin, you would have chosen not to come, I wasn’t expecting you to but you did and now you act like you don’t care?
Tell me, how long do you want to keep punishing me?
Until you sign the divorce papers, you haven’t even opened it yet.

It took a lot for him not to break down in tears.

That moment felt like the most painfil and heart breaking momemt for Jared.
He couldn’t hold back the tears anymore,he turned his face to the other side as he cried like a child.
He lost her.
He can’t win her back.
He felt broken, he didn’t know what to do.
Jared? Alondria called touching him but she got no response.

Asher will be here any moment, I will be fine on my own, you can go ahead, he said without looking at her.

Its fine, Jared said then picked up his phone from the table.
He dialed the doctor’s number.
? Prepare for my discharge quickly, I’m leaving now! he said making sure to pass his seriousness across.
Without protest, the doctor did as he was told.
Within few minutes they were done.
What’s this? Jared asked pointing at the wheelchair beside his bed.

Crap! he growled as he buttoned his shirt while Alondria watched without a word.
He got up and walked away limping.
Alondria chased after him.

I’m sure your lover won’t approve of this, Jared said.
Asher drove in with Scarlet.
Are you leaving, Jared? Scarlet asked with so much worry, she saw how badly injured he was.
How then is he out and acting like nothing is wrong with him.
Jared nodded as he walked into the car as Asher held the door but didn’t help him knowing who Jared is.
Is everything okay girlfriend? Scarlet asked Alondria who was crying.
We should take a cab, Alondria said pulling Scarlet with her.
But the car will contain us all, Scarlet whined.
Where are you going babe? Asher asked.
Its Londria, she wants is to take a cab.
Babe? Alondria asked staring at both of them.
Oh, we can go get the cab now, hey, stop! Scarlet yelled running off to stop a cab while ignoring the question.
Asher gave Alondria a wink then hopped into the car driving off with Alondria staring till they were out of sight
She wiped the tears off her face as she joined Scarlet who already succeeded in getting a cab.
JARED
What is going on Jared? Why do you suddenly want to sign the papers? Asher asked watching me look for the key to the drawer which I misplaced.
To set her free Asher, she loves someone else!

She told me at the hospital, she wants a perfect marriage, she wants to have kids with the man she loves, she asked me to set her free, I don’t know what else to do, I lost her already.
Jared I think you need to calm down, you both can still work things out.
She doesn’t want to sort things out, there is nothing else I can do.
I thought you love her, are you going to let everything go just like that?
As the saying goes, if you care about something, you let it go, if it comes back to you its yours.

I have to find the key today, knowing she loves someone else breaks my heart more than I expected
I can’t cope with keeping her here when I know her heart belongs somewhere else.

Found it, I exclaimed picking it up from under the bed.
I used it to open the drawer as my hands shook.
The divorce paper was right there,staring at me.

Its time, I said more like telling myseld to brace up for the most painful moment of my life.
I leaped to the door and opened it.
She was standing right there, her eyes landed on the papers in my hands and she stared at me.
I have thought things through, if this makes you happy then I’m ready to give up the love I have for you just to see you smile.

I’m signing the papers now, i will get them delivered to you when I’m done,you can start packing up your stuffs, I guess you must be in a hurry to leave, I said wiping the tears off my face as i watched tears fall off her eyes too.
Despite saying all that, I was hoping she would tell me she changes her mind and she wants us to work too.
But no, she only nodded as her friend stared at her.
Alright then, I muttered turning to go back in, heartbroken and a wreck.

Ca.. Can.. I watch you sign it? she asked and I nodded.
I made way for her and she walked in slowly with her friend then I locked the door.
I went straight to the table and picked up my pen then came back to meet them.
There was pin drop silence, no one said a word as I sat down beside Asher then pulled the pen cover.
I lost my marriage even before i could have one, I have no one else to blame but myself.
