^^ LUCY’S HOME ^^
“Is it really good for me to stop here? ” Andrew asked as he stopped the car at the entrance of the estate.
“It is. I don’t want the maids gossiping about me most especially Giselle” Lucy said without thinking.
“Giselle? If it’s the same Giselle I know then you two must be sisters”
“Sort of. It’s really complicated, I can’t tell you” Lucy answered and he gave a nod in return.
“Sure you don’t want us to talk to the police? ” Andrew asked.
“I don’t. It’s best we leave it this way” Lucy replied. If the mask guy have a problem with her then he should come clean rather to play this sick joke.
“Why don’t you quit the race?” Andrew suggest.
“And give you the chance to stay away from me? I won’t quit and I will definitely win the race” she replied stubbornly.
“Am not saying this due to the deal we made but it’s due to…”
“Don’t worry, I can take care of myself. Have been doing that ever since I was this little” she made a gesture with her hand.
“And besides, am your girl. You should put your faith in me” she added and gave him a bright smile.
“Thanks for bringing me home, see you tomorrow” she said and open the door, she was about to get off when she changed her mind and turn to Andrew to give him a kiss on the cheek.
“Am going to win the race” she said lightly and got out of the car.
Andrew who had been frozen by the sudden kiss kept watching her walk off.
He touched his kissed cheek and slowly a smile brighten his face.

^^ THREE DAYS LATER ~ CITY STADIUM ~ MARATHON D- DAY ^^
Someone could be seen walking into the female changing room.
The unknown person began his search and when he found the particular locker he was searching for.
He opened it and just like he suspect, the sneakers for all participants had been placed along with their outfit.
Pulling out the tiny nail he brought with him, he sticked it into the shoe.
When his work was done, he shut back the locker and left the room.
A locker which had Lucy Bai name on it.

“What the hell is taking Bonnie long?” Mary spat out while Steve tried to calm her down.
“But the good seats will be taken if we don’t go in…”
“Am here!” Bonnie said as she came running.
“What took you so long?”
“Traffic” Bonnie replied with a sheepish grin.
“Now that we are all here, let’s go get some good…”
“Not yet! We are waiting for someone else” Mary said and began to fix her tousled hair.
“But who are we waiting for?” Bonnie asked and at that moment, Donovan, Francis and William arrived.
“I should have known” Bonnie muttered as she sent a frown their way.
“Sorry we took long. The traffic was bad” Francis said.
“As long as we are all here, what about Andrew?” Mary asked.
“He will coming a bit late, he has something important to attend to” William answered.
“Since he’s on his way then we’ve got no problem. Let’s go in before we end up standing” Mary urge and they all began to go in.
“You are sitting next to me, okay” Donovan said, holding Bonnie back but she pulled her hand out of his.
“No” she said and went to join Francis.
After getting the best seats, Steve accompanied Mary to the eatery section.
They were on their way back when Mary went to use rest room.
Steve was waiting for her outside when a guy approach him.
“Am sorry to bother you but I would like to ask you a question?” The guy began and Steve urge him to go on.
” The girl with you, are you dating her?”
“Am not ”
“That’s good. Can you give me her number, she’s sort of my type and I would like to know more about her” The guy said getting Steve feeling irritated.
“I can’t do that and even if I can, I still wouldn’t give you her number” Steve said trying to control his anger.
“But why? You clearly said you weren’t dating her”
“Am doing this for your own good. My friend might be pretty and attractive but once you get to know her, you won’t like a thing about her. She gets angry easily and when she’s angry, she tends to be scary”
“She will make you regret ever getting involve with her and so,if you love your life just forget about this infactuation you have for her” Steve added scaring the guy off.
Steve was trying to control his laughter when Mary approach him.
“Why did you do that?” She asked and immediately, his laughter died.
“What did I do?”
“I heard everything from when that guy approached you. Why did you say that about me? ” Mary asked, looking very serious.
“I…I…I…”
“You did the same thing some months ago. I pretended not to know but I won’t this time. Why do you keep on doing that to guys who are interested in me and don’t tell me that it’s a way to protect me cause that will be a lie”
“Mary I….” His explanation were cut off when they announced the race through the loud speaker.
“Wh@tëver your explanation is, I don’t want to know but keep it in mind that no matter how you tell them off, you can’t stop me from dating ” Mary said and push past him, heading to their seats since the race will begin soon.

Dressed in her gear which had a logo of their school name on it. Lucy stood with other participants waiting for her school name to be called.
For the past three days, she has been practicing for this very day…will she be able to do a good job? She thought as felt a sharp prickle in her foot.
She was about loosening her sneakers to check what was in it when Alex showed up.
He was wearing the same gear with her but his had his school logo on it.
“We meet again” He said casually.
“Who do you think will win the race?” He asked and Lucy shrugged.
“Am not sure what today’s outcome will be but am definitely going to do my best and I hope you do your best too” Lucy said, looking very determined.
“You sound like the winner already”
“That’s because have got to win. There’s something at stake”
“Mind telling me what this is?” Alex asked and she shook her head.
“It’s something private ” she replied and set her head band properly.
“I notice you always have those gloves on? Is there a scar you are trying to hide?” Alex asked.
“Not a scar and it’s also something personal” Lucy said as a thought occur to her.
Touching Alex might let her see his future and she will get to know if he will win today or not.
She has made a vow not to use her special ability for selfish reasons but just this once, she will have to break it.
She pulled off her glove just as Alex was called out by the host.
He was about to leave when Lucy held his hand, startling him in the process.
What she saw got her pulling away quickly.
“Is something wrong?” Alex asked, wondering why she held him.
“No…nothing is wrong” Lucy replied quickly and watch him leave.
Alex isn’t destined to win the race today since he’s bound to die….Lucy thought.
Alex will take the lead as always during the race but along the way, he will fall off the hill and die due to heavy loss of blood.
When Lucy was called, she went out to join the other participant and there was Alex, all eager for the race.
Her heart was torn between helping Alex and winning the race.
And she was still bothered by it as the race began.
They had ran out of the stadium already and were heading into the hill which will lead them right back into the stadium.
It was a two hours race and so, Lucy began running slowly and luckily, Alex was at her side too.
They kept running till an hour went by and it was at that moment, Alex began fasten his pace.
“This is where the real race begin” he said and waved at her before running off.
Knowing that if he’s left alone, he will definitely fall off the hill, Lucy also fasten her pace, catching up with him.
Winning the race no longer matter since someone life is at stake.
“You really do want to win this race right?” Alex said beside her.
“Focus” Lucy replied.
They were far ahead of others and the last turn they took were leading them back to the stadium.
“Don’t you think it’s time for you to give up?” Alex asked beside her but Lucy wasn’t listening since they have gotten to the same spot where Alex will fall.
She stopped and stared at Alex who also stopped.
” Listen to me. That side is very slippery and if you aren’t careful, you are going to fall”
“You don’t have to warn me, I can take care of myself ” he said and made to continue but Lucy held his hand, digging her foot on the sandy ground, and at that moment the tiny nail in her sneaker press into her foot and she cried out in pain.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” Alex asked as he made her seat on the floor.
“There’s something in my shoe” said Lucy and immediately, Alex took off her right sneaker and pull out the nail in it.
“Who in their frigid mind would do this!” Alex half yelled, staring at Lucy bloody feet.
Pulling off his head band, he tore it and wrap it against her foot to stop the bleeding.
“You are going to have to forfeit, Lucy”
“I can’t! I told you something is at stake”
“But you can’t run with your injured foot”
“I will try” Lucy replied.
“Lucy” he called trying to make her see sense but Lucy isn’t going to give up.
“Fine then, get on my back” he offered and though she refused, she got onto his back.
He carried her through the slippery path and began running with her on his back.
One thing they benefitted from all this is that Alex didn’t fall off the hill.
A tired Alex set her down right in front of the hill side.
“If I carry you in then we will both lose. Run along, Lucy”
“What about you?”
“I will stay here”
“But….”
“You said something is at stake. So, go ahead and win for the both of us” Alex said and gave her a gentle push.
Lucy began to run off, grinding her teeth as she felt the pain of her injured foot.
By now everyone was waiting for the first participant to arrive and when Lucy showed up.
The students from knights college began screaming out Lucy’s name.
“Why is she running like that?” Mary voice out.
“I think she’s injured” Bonnie replied.
“Shouldn’t we stop her?” Steve said.
“I don’t think so…she has to keep going or she lose” Francis said.
“You are finally here” Donovan said as Andrew arrive.
“Your girl is in the lead but she’s injured” Donovan added as Andrew watch Lucy.
Lucy was tired, she could feel the sting in her feet getting worse and along the way, her legs gave way and she fell.
At that moment another participant showed up too.
“You can do this Lucy!” Mary yelled out suddenly and Bonnie stood up too calling out Lucy name.
Soon everyone began calling her name. Through the whole chanting, Lucy tried to get up but her legs gave way again.
She can’t lose….not after everything she did just to get here.
Forcing herself up, she began to run again.
She could see the finish line, she’s almost there….just a little bit more, Lucy thought as she fasten her pace.
But then her leg gave way again and when she fell, she lost consciousness……
