NOT ME…chapter 18
…….Faith woke up some hours later,, she asked about the girl she saw that looked like her,,, those with her waved it off and told her it was her imagination, just to keep her off danger and ensure she was fully okay…
She spent extra two todays in the hospital, according to Derrick, she kept asking who they were,and why were they so kind to her,,they simply told her they were good Nigerians trying to help….
When she was discharged, her adopted parent came,and wanted to take her home with them,but she had refused,saying she had rather die on the street than going home with them…
So they convinced her and brought her home,(to Derrick’s place) with her adopted parent coming along.. After she had settled, and we were sure she was quite fit to handle the shock,,, everyone sat down in the living room,expect me….
Faith my daughter, Mrs Gloria started, I know I have been a terrible mother,I know we don’t deserve your forgiveness,,, but please forgive us,,if not immediately, but please find a place in your heart and forgive us… We have a little confession to make,,, we are not your biological parent,we adopted you….
What!,you what!, oh my God,pinky shouted,no Wonder all the hatred, maltreatment and slavery,,,she had started crying…did I ask you to adopt me,what did I ever do to you that you treated me so bad….
Was I an orphan, did you pick me on a bush or road path, from which orphanage did you adopt me from,she shouted amidst tears….
Your parent aren’t dead,neither are you an orphan,,, you parent are here,and they are,Mr and Mrs Clement….
What?,you both are strong and healthy, why did you give me up for adoption… She asked,,, my child mother said, it was 24years ago,,(she explained all that had happened)…. You mean I am a twin,Faith asked, yes my child, father answered,, where is my twin then,am here,I came out,standing before her,both of us stood starring at each other not knowing what to do….
Oh my God, you two are so identical,, standing before the both of you,is difficult to tell who is who,,,, I was hoping Pinky will happily hug me,and our parents in excitement,,,, but she turned to our parents,,, so you gave me out to this wicked woman like a piece of trash,how easy was it for a mother to let her infant go,,,left me in the hands of these monster….
I went through hell in their hands,I was a slave in my supposed father’s house..I tried all I could to be a good child, but no,they were never satisfied,,, no matter what I did,the love wasn’t just there,,,,oh,if only I knew I was adopted, maybe I wouldn’t have tried to please them as I did,,, I went to bed every night, thinking of what I had done to my parent to warrant such hatred,,,,,i was going through all these, while my parent slept comfortably in their home,,, please calm down my child, Nurse Bola said,,,
You don’t tell me to calm down, because you know nothing about what I feel, and what I had been through…. And when I couldn’t take it anymore,,,, after my supposed mother bathed me with hot pepper,and flogged me ontop,,,oh you are wicked, she turned to Lady G,,,I knew I couldn’t take it anymore,,, I left that hell called home,,,I slept on the street for days dying of hunger, but nobody cared,,,,I begged for arms,a few gave, many others insulted me,telling me to look for what to do, since I wasn’t handicapped,,, indeed I tried to look for what to do,,but the men only wanted what is in between my legs…..
I made some friends from the streets, and I was lured into divers of unhealthy life style, drinking,smoking,and especially stealing,,, I practically had to steal,or pick pocket before I could eat,,, I went through hell,,I slept under the bridge,,on uncompleted buildings, vacant shops, and what have you,they were guys that would have helped,,,, but my pride as a woman,was what I owe, God, myself and my husband, that’s if anyone would ever love someone like me,, so when men would want to sleep with me,taking me to hotels or their homes,I drug them, they sleep off,I will then steal from them,and run away,I was always on the run,,my life lacked direction and focused,,, all because my parent refused to take up their responsibility, and preferred to give me away..
I am sorry my child, pleas, I am,our parent and her adopted parent were crying profusely begging her for forgiveness,,, but she wasn’t listening at all.
Faith please, they are sorry, they really how,do you know how we have tried to look for you for sometime,,,please, forgive them, I said,,,, how easy is it for you to say,,,dear sister, you know nothing about the humiliation ,pains,agony I had been through,,,you were under the care of parent who loved you,,,so you don’t stand there and tell me to forgive them, because I won’t,,,, so you think I didn’t get a share of life’s misfortune,,, I asked,,, well I did,,,I had to pay for most of those crimes you did and you think you escaped,,, no,you weren’t smart,you didn’t escape, neither were you so good at covering tracks, I was paying for them,because they always mistook you for meeee…
Like your adventure with Mr Douglas, I paid for it,,like the guy you stole his dollar in the club, I paid for it,like when you stole from Skyle ,I paid for it,,like the woman you stole her purse in the market,who happens to be Derrick mother by the way,I paid for it yet again, these are to mention but a few,,,,so even when I was supposed to be the lucky one who grew up with our parents,,, I was beaten,humiliated and accused for sins I didn’t commit, I bet you do not know how that feels..I said..
I do,she came close to me and held my hands,I do,like the many times I was wrongly accused by Mom (pointing to her adopted mother)and beating,it hurt,so I know,, I am sorry sister ,for making you go through all that, I had no idea,I thought I was been smart and careful, not knowing someone somewhere, was paying for my sins,,,I am very grateful sister,, I am….but I can never forgive these people, (pointing at both our biological parent and her adopted parent), she said and ran out of the house,,,, I was about going after her,when Derrick stopped me and went after her instead,,,,
Just while they ran out,,,we heard a car stopped suddenly and two voices shouted in pain,,,
apparently there had been an accident..
